We can never fully understand. But we can gain our own understanding

Hey Joe, Psych Dude here. You nailed it. You have to know people's motivations to get why they do what they do. Then you can start to relate to that person.

Relate or related, maybe I don’t want to be related to that person. Oh well, you can’t pick your relatives, but you can pick your nose 😁

Boy, I think this is my longest reply ever. Be warned.
    ---
Wow, since the algorithm showed me your video, it seems to really understand me now. Which is kind of frightening.
I've been thinking about understanding a lot over the years. And this is how I see it now: Understanding a concept means being aware of the structure underneath the thing you see at first glance. Like the inside of a house vs. its facade. It's about grasping how everything affects everything else. How parts work together. And it all boils down to asking "Why?" It's the first question we have, because we want to understand.
Also, as you pointed out, fully understanding something is hardly possible. The reason is simple, I think. Everything is always changing. Your understanding of something is always on a spectrum and the end points often keep going farther and farther apart.
So if you draw arbitrary lines around something, e.g. "classical guitar", you can understand that to a very high degree. Even fully. But the lines you draw around that part are arbitrary and don't reflect reality. Reality works without lines.
Also, and this doesn't make it any easier, the way you understand something depends on the things you already understand. The things, concepts, principles you understand up to the point you're learning something new, are the tools in your toolbox called brain. The more tools you have, the better you can understand. At least in most cases. (This is how you answer when a kid asks "Why do I need to learn this? I"m never gonna use that in life.")
And yes, actually doing something is very important. Only very few people can learn to ride a bike from a book.
And about comedy: People are more likely to listen and follow if there's at least the possibility of a punchline at the end. I had a teacher that was SO funny, all the students' eyes were glued to him, everyone would actively listen, hoping something funny's gonna happen. And the funny thing did happen most of the time. But the knowledge came with it.
Finally, how do you get people to believe you? Ask any conman.
So, these are my 5729 cents. Thanks.

I think another reason comedy and communicating understand is because you typically need a genuine understanding of whatever you’re joking about to be effective. It’s hard to subvert expectations if you don’t know what they are or how they work. So by the time someone’s making effective jokes about something, they necessarily have an understanding of it.
I know this isn’t directly related to the overall question of “do you understand”- but i think it’s promising that we see examples all around us of “funny” people who seem to understand yk?
