- Hey fellows! this is my first tutorial video! sorry for video quality, music quality and others.
I tried show you how to decompile a map from WinBSPC. It is a good program for decompiling maps (BSP To Map too also)
but making a lot of bugs like texture stretching, entity errors or brush missing and maybe more... but sometimes decompiling maps nice too.

amazing tutorial I had never heard about j.a.c.k editor. I use BSP2map and my main problem was the textures that were displaced after decompilation. But with this program now I can replicate any half-life map! thank you!

J.A.C.K has better compatibility with Windows 10 than Valve Hammer Editor.

It doesn't work well and maps cannot be compiled unless tweaked a lot. converting BSP to MAP is very buggy at the moment.
It sure is like that. Still, there isn't a proper decompiler that decompiles maps perfectly. Most likely there won't be one in my opinion
decompiling compiled BSPs is very hard, if not, impossible to do perfectly.

Hi! I tried doing this for a map in Residual Life and it worked but the map is not compiling when I press F9 and says hlbsp.exe and the others won't work with it. Do you know a solution by chance?
You gotta fix the map as well as i show in the tutorial video, check for the errors in the map.

Does it work with quake engine bsp?
I don't think so, quake engine has different map decompiler

To be honest, all the GoldSrc map decompilers we have at the moment, are all both broken and unreliable to use. I really do wish that at some point in the future, there would be one that is good in quality, or nigh-perfect. 😞

@@XRAY81 Also, it does make me wonder, how the creator of Sven Viking, had changed the Half-Life campaign maps in the sense of adding more enemies in them, in addition to switching them to Race X aliens. More specifically, this is, as far as I have known, only available in 3.0 right up to 4.8. I am confused. If there is a tool he used to make that possible without any incoming decompiling issues, that'll be the only chance we might have. Its worth asking that in the forums, even in the Steam Discussions.
@@toxicholygrenadethg9906 valve gave the hl1 map sources to the sven team, but if you wanna edit campaign maps without begging valve for the sources you could use the hl1 wc map pak
