Don't like too be the one pointing out negativity but how one dislike something so inspiring. 🤦🏽♂️.... thanks for Sharing and being direct and honest. Greg RocK!!!
Going in to this, I thought it was going to be unwatchable based on the comments, but I didn't even notice the guy breathing unless he bent down, which didn't happen much. Awesome video; many thanks to Greg Wells!
Greg is the ultimate gear-god, the rest of us are just pretenders. And when a man who has $70,000 monitors says he couldn't afford the custom mixing console he originally wanted, well, I just don't even know how to process that except to start planning my new career as a console designer.
And at the end of the day the dollar is just that until it ceases to exist and THEN WHAT.... THEN WHAT? Sure he has expensive things, doesn’t mean he’s any higher than anyone else, or more lucky. At all.
Great tour, you forget the breathing if you are really interested in learning about the gear and techniques of a great producer. I was happy to see the reslo mic there. I also have one and it's so good on pretty much anything. Lots of boutique gear there which is great and I like to see, there are some future classics being made right now. One thing, for someone who does a lot ITB I expected to see a bit better screens?
Also, I'm pleasantly surprised how cramped and hodge-podge everything is. I expected quite a bit more from someone of his stature, but he clearly has no problem making great recordings in a studio that could fit in most 2500+ sq foot homes. I've been in so many expensive studios with expansive, modern looking spaces that don't produce anything even remotely as good as what he does.
That harmonica is awesome, Dave! When you did the Indaba contest on your theme, the only thing I wanted to do with it is try to make the harmonica sound more like the ones I'd heard live in blues clubs where they play it through a guitar amp. It did that but never submitted it. I thought you were looking for something more different from what you already had. It sounds good though!
Why are you using the camera mic? If you would have used a lav mic you would have got a better sound without the heavy breathing. Apart from the the studio was good.
From what I’ve gathered, I think he likes to go 1073>1176>LA2A/LA3A for tracking, and he does use an 1176 for mixing vox, in parallel for sure and possibly in insert as well
Old West LA Music. Bought an adat xt there, some ns-10's, almost an MPC, they were just so expensive back in the day. Ended up with an ASR-X instead, beginning my love affair with Ensoniq. Anybody know what became of the Irish salesman they had in the mid 90's? Haha.
You try filming a 35 minute video and breathing quietly through your nose the whole time. I can't do it. I didn't even notice it until the last 1/3 of the video. Plus... GW is a pretty gifted multi-instrumentalist. Damn.
Honestly very surprised how the room is apparently, for the most part, not acoustically treated. I saw a few pieces of foam here and there but no traps or ceiling cloud. I wouldn't think someone of his stature would have all that gear but not treat the room...
I would assume the room is designed in an acoustically friendly way. Or that the walls have treatment built into them. I highly doubt he's mixing in an untreated environment but I could be wrong. The audio doesn't sound like it has a lot of reflections in it either. If it was untreated I think we could hear a lot more echo.
@@maxwally6772 ha, it's funny, I wrote that comment a year ago, when I only knew the bare minimum about treatment. Since then I've treated my own room and learned a lot in the process, and reviewing this video I'd have to say I didn't know what I was talking about. It's clear the walls actually have treatment, you can see the soft texture and gaps of frames where they separate. Lesson learned for speaking too soon out of my ass! lol
Love the sniffing, breathing and snorting from the camera man - really adds to the depth and immersion of the video
Haha Great point
Hahaha for. A moment I though it was me, I had ti stop breathing and play the video again to double check lol😅
The irony of interviewing one of the greatest mix engineers of our time and YOU DONT EDIT OUT THE MOUTH BREATHER!!! 😩
Didn't know that Darth Vader worked on the side as a camera person.
Hahaha
Disturbing heavy breather behind the camera
David Rosario I was just thinking the same thing. Thought I was hearing things 😁
exactly, get a lav mic guys... your touring Wells studio!
Maybe a ghost in the machine.
Sounds like he was ill and doing the best he could. Cool video, with new insight on Greg's studio.
Looks like Phantom of the Paradise
Great studio tour Mr. Greg Wells thank you for sharing💕
Bad audio on an audio based channel. Smooth guys. Smooth.
34:15 them greatest showman drums! 😍

Lav. mic. on Greg...camera mic we hear... lol :P
I love how Greg said he's funding everything himself. He's a major player but he's independent in his hustle. Flip flip flip.
A studio like Greg's would be my dream

Literally the greatest comment I’ve ever read on any audio engineering video. 😂
Hope your career is off to a great start.
I guess it doesn’t pay like it used to …
He is amazing
amazing dude ..this one! Love Greg Wells!.. thanks for sharing
Beautiful studio! Merci Pensado's Place for this video!
Gives me goosebumps!!!! I love that studiostuff, thanks guys!!! Cheers, Jeroen Simons, Independent,ex-EPICA.
Studio Tour - 6:23

also needs more De-Breath :D :D
Great tour; definitely appealing gear. Thanks :D
I thought it was just me, lmao! Greg Wells your the best, Congratulations on your Grammy buddy.
loved it
Wow! I got the same desktop wallpaper for years.
Nice!! Michael Myers is behind the camera. Such an amazing studio
like number 1000!

Always insightful. Thank you.
Oh my god the breathing at 22:50 just gets insane!
I love the freaky deeky tapestries. Ordering mine soon.
Excellent ! 😊👋🏿
what a dope dude!

Wow. As well as being a great engineer he is also an amazing guy. What an awesome natural guy. A true inspiration!
Love the cooking reference..
Rest In Peace Don Skuce such an incredible human being.
Wow! I have an old Lowery electronic organ that is also 22 cents sharp.
Woooowww. Cam guy needs a gym membership.

Tour Starts at: 6:22 Your Welcome :)
Remarkable.
"you can clearly hear 15hz", bruv youve never heard 15hz in your life, youve felt it though, maybe in a thunderstorm or explosion ahaha
Hey!
Where did Greg's Shadow Hills comp go?
Goodness use Izotope RX and get rid of all the breathing! Do something lol.
That harmonica is awesome, Dave! Heavy Breather is scary!!!!
That's a LOT of money right there.
Existence is INFINITE.
Think BIG.
Hi Gregg! Those white little speakers??? tell me about them! 🙏
Feels like a sorts show
Digging the hippie vibe
That breathing in the background.......sounds like a stalker just about to spring !
Great studio though!!!
I would'nt mind if this show was filmed with an Iphone but pleaaase get the audio right.
Contest link not working, I want in please
THE LAMP IS WAY COOL!!!!!!
I wasnt distracted by the camera man. Paying too much attention to Greg's studio tour
Why are you using the camera mic? If you would have used a lav mic you would have got a better sound without the heavy breathing. Apart from the the studio was good.
Newbie question, learning, is he using 1176 while tracking vocals or is it more for mixing?
From what I’ve gathered, I think he likes to go 1073>1176>LA2A/LA3A for tracking, and he does use an 1176 for mixing vox, in parallel for sure and possibly in insert as well

And idea what the ride mic is? What are the mics on the toms (Neumann? Mini K47s or Delphos?)
First thing I notice, $200,000 speakers, damn dude
27:58 casually blazing
35,000,000. Records Sold and Recorded in an Apartment on a Busy Street.
this camera-man need a sound-man......
That Vitalizer tho
Who is huffing and puffing next to the mic????
Video game pause music in the background the whole time haha
I'm surprised he doesn't have more sound insulation in that room. It sounds really boxy in there.
wow his control room is so reverbant, I couldn't work there
RIP Don Skuce
Wooooowwoowwoowww take it easy with the breathing camera man
That must of been a classy church to be running 1176's for sound.
Jason Eckard Dude, I'm from St Louis. Churches around here have some serious gear!
I used to be a pipe organ repairman but the only cool stuff I ever saw were really nice pianos.
The cameraman’s breathing 😂😂😂
$44,000 speakers.. 🤯
Is that a Townsend Sphere in his control room I spy?
Well done Darth Vader on camera
So... I see a lav, but only hear camera audio, which is more camera man huffing and puffing than Greg, what happened? Sort of hard to listen to.
You try filming a 35 minute video and breathing quietly through your nose the whole time. I can't do it. I didn't even notice it until the last 1/3 of the video. Plus... GW is a pretty gifted multi-instrumentalist. Damn.
I love these tours when you hear them speaking and the room sounds like crap.
The PMC BB6-A loudspeakers 🔈🔈🔈🔈are about $125,000 plus tax.... 🥶🤯
yo that breathing at 22:49 WHAT THE HELL?
22:50 im uncomfortable
Lots of reflection in that room. Tapestries help but there’s literally no acoustic treatment 🤔
Ima use this video to crank call my ex’s
I love his Waves Egocentric plugin...
Lots of heavy breathing. Must appeal to the ASMR crowd.
it must be a bit of pain moving all those drums out the drum booth every time you want to record
see I would write a very large check to that man if I were Adele or Katy.. A very very generous hefty check
Camera man sounds like Darth Vader with asthma
Just noticed:no distressors! The shame! LOL
Maybe he should just have turned on Greg's lav mic instead of using the camera mic..... Djeeezaz
Why is the camera guy so out of breath?
Camera guy has his hands down his pants
Dua lipa referenced? She was around then?
So he likes the number three. interesting. "Pensado's Place #339" see that? 3 times 3 equals 9. what are the odds?
No se si entender las cosas q dice Greg Wells... o desesperarme por la respiración del camarógrafo!!!
shoulda ran Izotope De-breath on the camera guy
At least the mouth breather didn't have a nose whistler going at the same time. Should have been Berry White music
in the background
Guy working the camera is a heavy breather...
