Alan I just watched your Summit of K2 video again and saw a comment where you said you climb for your mother. That's beautiful to me and I'm sure she's so proud of all your accomplishments. With that said you've seen some jaw dropping views in your day I imagine? :)
Thanks Fred. Yes, Ida Arnette died from Alzheimer's Disease in 2009. I took early retirement from a 30 year career with HP in 2006 to oversee her care. While Alzheimer's took her life it changed mine forever. Then and now I climb, write and have a life's purpose as an Alzheimer's Advocate. @@AlanArnetteClimbs well I'm so glad to be able to see your videos and hear your mother's story along with yours! You've seen more than I'll probably see in my lifetime. I could hardly handle snowmobiling in the rocky mountains and I have some physical issues but I can dream about climbing!
Happy birthday Alan, my birthday is July 27, 1986. I’m a huge fan, I wish there were more mountaineering documentaries and movies. Great blog keep up the good work.
Thanks alot, Alan for your informative climbing updates. I’ve never climbed in my life, but can a more knowledgible person tell me how Mr Kim with no fingers operate a jumar? Would he have needed a custom device that he could operate with his stumps?
It's unclear what happened, only the first hand report from Vitaly. Speculation is unnecessary. He did have some special climbing devices I saw in a picture attached to his wrists.
I'm so glad that they found the missing climbers. I know some have speculated that they might have fallen in a crevasse. It looks maybe they made the summit and couldn't find their way back. Maybe got caught at dark or storm????
I think it's a out of respect and spread of misinformation that there is no solid news. When they disappeared in February, there was a lot of insensitive comments, rumors and serious misinformation throughout social and Pakistani media that was hurtful to the families. Also, while there will be speculation, we will never be 100% certain what happened.
A documentary was shot and is being produced by Elia Saikaly. He was climbing and filming their winter expedition and also climbed in summer while documenting the body recover process.
Wow, this guy puts me to shame. I am almost 55, and lying here watching this, crippled with arthritis in almost every joint, and battling an autoimmune disorder. This man was older than I am and was mountain climbing and summiting K2. Now, I feel about 100. :)
@@AlanArnetteClimbs No, you're right. I guess my problem is, because of all my health problems, I've given up my dreams. It was all of my years of dreams: ballet, gymnastics, etc. that got me in this crippled condition, lol. (well, not the autoimmune disorder. That came out of nowhere a few years ago.) I used to be able to bench press my 10 year old, now I can't open a jar :) If you still have the ability, God bless you. You never know when you wake up one day, and it's gone, so make the most of it.
Mr. Arnette, as you're the Grand Master of the mountain climbing life, can you please make it mandatory that these climbers all write books about their experiences please? If anyone can do that, it's you. I have the utmost confidence. P.S. I look forward to your posts/blog.
How much would it cost for an expedition to pack extra tents? For such an essential element on a K2 or Broad Peak climb, you'd think they would carry backup tents.
Reports on Pakistan TVs that three dead bodies are located on K2 from distance and trying to go near to them, ang people saying that these may be the dead bodies of Ali Sadpara from Pakistan, John Snorri from Iceland and third from Chile, but this will be confirmed when operation complete..... Me from Pakistan 🇵🇰...
Respect to you for reaching the top of the world. I get why people do it but I don't fully understand if that makes sense. I could never leave my kids and wife for something that could very possibly kill me but that's the mystery of climbers with a love for everest. Respect to all that have made it and those that sadly never. 🙏. 🏔
Happy birthday dear Alan. Also prayers for the safe return of Sajid Sadpara Evacuation team, as they are low on O2.
Thank you for the update. Happy Birthday.
Happy birthday Alan🎂
Hate to tell you, 65 isn't an old man anymore! Climb on 😉

@@fred.wright Pretty much done. Still love to trek in Nepal, climb their 20ers but love Ecuador these days.

The best operator do have spares.
Elaine Benes should climb K2, then, knowing that there'd be a "square to spare."🤣
Happy birthday🥳
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Alan. Remember the infamous words of Indiana Jones: "It's not the years ... it's the mileage." Stay active & climb on. ❤
LOL, Thanks! Not sure that makes me feel better. :) :)
The mountain will remain. Man on the other hand.....More reason to conquer them.
How is it possible that I, your BIGGEST fan, did not know you had a RUclips channel??!?!?!?!
LOL. Sorry about that! I've been posting for years but got serious this past Everest season.

Yes. It’s always a personal choice, that includes the unequivocal support of the partner back home. Everyone’s decision is unique individual.
