Thank you for your wonderful explanation regarding the features of this device! I'm a senior citizen, way behind technological understandings, but I understood much of what you were teaching. I may watch it a few times to grasp where to find specific features and what they're used for again. Overall, thank you so much!!!!
With constant news about exploited security vulnerabilities in consumer products, the fact that this device has no wireless capabilities is a selling point! It's recording go only to whatever you plug in and I love it.
That’s a good point. Use ‘off the grid’ as a selling point. No doubt it appeals to many. Also, the fact that this unit is totally standalone from a software point of view is great. No app updates or dependency on Sony continuing support for the product.
Brilliant walk through, I really don't care about Bluetooth but I understand why some people might, the reason I dislike Bluetooth is that is that in my experience the wireless pairing can be picky about devices and be a bit unreliable, in my case this device fits exactly within my needs, just ordered 2, this video was a key factor on deciding, great content, earned a sub
if youre feeling unsafe you can reach in your pocket, switch it on and press record in less than 3 seconds without even having to take the voice recorder out of your pocket. With a smartphone you cant do that. it would look suspicious if you took it out, searched for the record app and recorded them
The little pouch for the device is actually quite handy when used as a sound buffer between device and table surface, when recording in a meeting type situation. Thanks for the review.
Well done! Appreciate the video. A straight forward, actual real human talking to the viewer. I am so done with so many videos with some kind of digitally created voice that still sounds like a robot, and can not pronounce far too many words! Those are so stupid! Thanks again, hello from Minnesota in the "States."
Please don't ADD Bluetooth, as it'll only ADD to the cost. If you want to email an MP3, plug the device into PC with the USB and download the MP3 files. VERY good it has a 3.5 mic INPUT so an earpiece microphone pickup works great. Phone apps only take up more space and recordings fill up the phone nicely too. This recorder is just fine as it is. Also nice that you can CHANGE THE BATTERIES vs. having one Lithium battery that WILL eventually die. I had mine stuck in "Transcription Mode" and couldn't record, but saw how you turn it on/off. (Don't even know how to use that feature anyhow. This is a very good walk through of the device!
So pleased I bought this in 2021. I saw it on Amazon, it was £49.99 because the box was ripped and it didn't have the pouch with it. Bargain me thinks, it's brilliant at everything it does really. I see the price of it now and am so glad I bought when I did.
I bought this 2 years ago and trust me it's better than zoom because of its light weight and small size .... You can hide this recorder in you shirt pocket and easy to carry.you can use this as MP3 player too with memory care ....love it ... If you are confused which one to but go with Sony brilliant voice recorder ..peace
My zoom h1 suddenly stopped recording, I think it retired after years of using it. maybe it can't handle long hours of recording anymore, say more than 4 hours. I'll try to have this one.
Audio is better. But the plus of a dictaphone is that you don’t waste your phone battery. A dedicated option will remind you more than the items that get lost on a phone. Its like having a separate notepad.
I started using this recorder recently. Sound quality is surprisingly good. Only obvious downside - as experienced on this video at 7.17-7.34 - is that the display automatically turns off after 30 seconds and there is apparently no way to get the display back. There is at least the red light to tell you that you are still recording, but it's a (small) drawback for me.
you can set the screen off timer from15 and 30 seconds, 1, 3, or 5 minutes or just no auto off at all. it has a lot of handy features that makes it a pretty good audio playback device, as well
Thank you so much for this😊. I was struggling with the massive instruction leaflet, it’s as big as a map 😮. I got one of these for my hypnotherapy sessions. I was sooooo pleased to find your video. Many thanks 🙏
Thanks for such a detailed review. I am using a sony ic recorder for last more than 10 yrs. and after using this I never thought of any other option. it is so good, user-friendly, lightweight. lastly, I was using its 533 model. earlier they were supplying USB cable along with it and that was very good. since I hardly used this and later both my recorder became useless all because its USB is not functioning.rest all is ok. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ So, I strongly recommend using a small USB cable instead of using it directly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I still have dedicated still camera, as well as a dedicated camcorder. The ergonomics alone,IMHO are reason enough, Plus way more (real) manual shooting options ans (real) zoom lenses. I also have a Tascam DR-05X for "field" recording. I just ordered this Sony unit for it's size, (Will it "sound" as good as the Tascam? IDK, But it'll be easier to carry daily for "snapshot" recording") plus it has mic and "ear" jacks (like my TASCAM) and it's also stereo. My phone can't do stereo "voice" recording. So there IS definitely a market for these devices.
I think "Sync Record" is for dubbing a CD (Or LP or Cassette or MiniDisc for that matter!.) If it is like what I have heard of in other (Sony?) devices, It will detect silences and make separate recordings (files) of each "track". Where as auto track mark would place markers on sections of a single recording (file). (When I get mine, I'll report back). This also MAY be useful to record "Ham radio" or "Scanner" traffic as it would be using the audio input cable, where a "VOX" (voice actuation) would use the built-in mics. I'm going to try both concepts when I get mine delivered.
Great video! Just bought one from Amazon, you saved me a lot of time figuring it out. Lack of bluetooth is huge minus for me. I am on wireless Airpods pro and Sony XM4 and find it rediculous that I had to drag my old Apple wired headphones from the storage box in basement. I hope Sony will figure it out eventually. Thanks again for taking your time and create this video!
So, I'm a linguist. The sound quality on a phone is generally not high enough for the sort of analysis I do. Cell phones have poorer quality microphones and audio drivers and record in MP3, which loses a lot of vital language data due to compression. While you can improve sound quality with external microphones and third party apps to record in a lossless format, these additional components and the multi-functionality of cell phones introduce a lot of potential points of failure and unnecessary complication. It is much better to have a dedicated device that performs this function out of the box, especially if you are performing fieldwork and only have one opportunity to get the audio quality right or the data is gone.
i use one on a regular basis as a covert hidden device, priceless for recording voice, great for meetings where complex exchages of information is taking place forget trying to take complex notes on paper, i would not be without one. I can also fit an ultra tiny lav mic a great bit of kit
LPCM is so much better sounding than MP3. I'm amazed at how fast and responsive this little device is. Built-in USB and memory is incredible. Never used something so simple out of the box. With their sound software, it makes it ultra simple to get files across and heard. You can even hear the recording directly on the device too. Putting time marks is also cool and many other things. It's like a lot of the controls have been forgotten to keep this simple. They should always have an LPCM option lmao. I think the reason why smartphone companies and other products for the masses omit is because people will be left longing for it. Personally, I've never even heard of LPCM and I'm on the PC all the time for decades. The clarity is just amazing. MP3 compression is not the same. :(
Actually you can hit almost any of the buttons, including the volume to bring the screen back on. If you hit the stop button, it will stop. The record button, will pause the recording. The T-Mark button will create a track. The Options button will bring up some recording options.
@@lfpaik The recorder was good but then I got the Zoom F2-BT with the MKE600 but having great audio doesn't really matter too much. I haven't really had purpose for it.

i had a phillips voice recorder that I paid about $160 for. Waste of money. you had to hold the power button for 3 seconds to turn it on and then wait another 3-5 seconds for it to startup and load. It was large and very slow. I didn't like how it was silver. If youre trying to sneak out a recorder quickly to secretly record, the phillips wasnt the one. Its huge and flashy. I bought this sony. It is 5x faster. It turns on basically immediately and there are many situations where this will be much more convenient. It is smaller, more durable, doesnt scratch easy, and is a lot easier to use. The only thing I dont like is if you rub the sony recorder or if its sliding in your pocket, you'll really hear that unlike other recorders ive used. maybe ill have to play with the mic sensitivity sometime, but I thought it was supposed to be auto
Joshua Vaughn - Yes, playing with the mic sensitivity is one option to reduce the rubbing noise. The other option would be to use an external lapel mic in which case, touching the IC Recorder in your pocket will not introduce any noise.

Two questions: On build quality, how is the screen holding up? I have the old model from 2015 and the screen scratched way to easy. On mp3 playback, does playback stop when you're selecting another track to play? Thanks in advance!
This would do the job fine. In a lecture theatre, you’ll never get superb results if there is a lot of ambient noise from people typing or chatting but you will be able to understand and that’s what these devices are all about. The only way to get crisp and clear audio would be to mic up the lecturer 👩🏫👍🏻.
I agree that single-purpose devices are better for some activities, and making recordings is clearly one of those activities for me. It's probably why I still use a camera for all but casual photos. 1) using this device doesn't tie up my phone. 2) it's much faster to turn on and hit "record" than fumbling around with pulling up an app. 2) it's easier to use a separate lapel mic, which is more convenient and produces a better result in some circumstances. 4) it's easier than using my phone to offload multiple recordings onto my computer. 5) this device is slim, light, and easier to handle than a phone. I'm also not as worried about this device getting damaged. It's comparably cheap and doesn't cause me to lose access to the outside world should I drop it in a puddle or off a cliff. Yes, my recordings aren't backed up to the Cloud like they are with my phone, but that isn't usually a huge concern for me. Besides the cliff scenario, the memory card will probably work fine even if the recorder bites it.
With usb plugged into a computer it is really easy to backup the files. And create specifically named folders, at least on other models I have used. Much safer to use while driving as well, though it might not be legal to do anymore.
Is there a way to hook up two microphones to it. Like if you wanted to record a podcast in a way... for example can you plug two mics into a preamp and then plug the preamp into the mic input on the dictaphone? Maybe I'm over complicating things LOL
Quick Question -- Were you ever able to figure out if you can you assign "custom" names to folders? (aside from the preset folder names, it would be quite nice to be able to assign custom names). Thanks.
Perhaps the play Range is so you can just dig on tunes in the Music and perhaps other folders (esp. would be valid on shuffle play) with out random meeting and interview recordings playing (Range of folders to play? ) Maybe? - IDK..(I just ordered this today- I'll find out!)

Hi! Thank you for the video I bought it but I can't record because it says the memory full even that I have deleted all the files. Do you know how to reset?
Which is the Best Voice Recorder or Should I wait for any New Model voice recorder to release in 2022? Choosing Playback Speed Option available for this Voice Recorder? And can we keep it in Silent Mode without Beep Sound?
Great video, just had a question can I insert an sd card which contains lectures and stuff on it and listen to the lectures on the sd card through this voice recorder? pls reply thx.
Thank you for the excellent video. I'm looking for a device to auto record/monitor nuisance dog barking. What is the delay on auto record i.e. approx how much of the beginning of the file is cut off? When does it stop auto recording i.e. after 10 seconds of quiet? Is a new file created every time it stops and restarts?
@@tdcattech Thank you for following up my question. I bought the cheaper PX470. It's brilliant, I've just been testing it. On VOR (auto record), sound is detected immediately and the device records without cutting off any of the start. Very impressed. Once quiet, recording continues for about a second or two before pausing the recording. Silence gaps while paused are omitted but all sound is spliced together in one file. Thought I'd answer my own questions in case it helps others. Cheers
Nice. Thanks for coming back with the extra info. Just to add the final piece, the UX570 can add track markers when the audio pauses but it is all one file. The only way to have separate files is with an external input and the sync record function. I hope you get what you need to solve the dog problem. Our neighbours had a guest with a dog at Christmas and it was terrible!
Completely agree about Bluetooth for file transfer and headphones! Incredibly frustrating! Do you have any good alternative devices with a Bluetooth function?
Does it have a voice squelch. recording when input is heard and paused when quiet. i would like to use line in from a radio receiver. to record only when active. ;).
Yes. It has a voice operated function where it pauses when it receives little or no input. In fact, I used it for a very similar purpose on this video - ruclips.net/video/NpQCtNgTPys/видео.html
I'm not with the device right now but this does support VOR (Voice Operated Recording) so if you enable this function, it will only record during speaking.
No. It's just a voice recorder. Unless you know it will have a specific feature you need, it is pointless waiting as there's nothing revolutionary here.
I deleted all the recorded files from the internal memory which comes with the device but still display that memory is full and doesn't let me record. Thank you for you Help in Advance
1. What kind of the mini mic is great for this pocket voice recorder? Do I really need a mic for this or it's already great without it? 2. You can rename a file after you put it on pc or smartphone? 3. Is this is waterproof devices? 4. Can you use it bigger card then 64 GBs on it? 5. Do I need a screen protector? Or glass hold it on by itself? 6. Do you think Bluetooth is need it? I mean... I'm so afraid that headphones with cable will disappear from a market but tbh I don't think so. I bet it will be with it for at least next 20 years right? I just ordered it & I will have it this tomorrow. I can't wait for it :)
Hi. I'd really appreciate it if you could help me understand if this could do the following... I know this is dreadfully old school, but as well as capturing voice notes, i'd like this to store a small amount of ripped songs. I dont care about seeing song names (i'm used to screenless Ipod shuffles). I just want to have a folder for Jazz, a folder for Dance, etc and have maybe 30 or so songs in each. I'd input them with the line in jack and just feed tracks from my CD player and also individual tracks from RUclips. I'd be really grateful if you could tell me if this Sony could be used this way. Thanks
Hi! In your opinion the sound quality through wired headphones is worse or better than in smartphones? Is there any noise in the pauses between tracks or in audiobooks?
Can it record a phone interview that one person is call to you phone which is connected from the phone headphones output to the Olympus mic jack and you record yourself through the Sony external mics into a single audio file while you hearing the incoming call through your headphones? That way we record any interview on the road with a decent sound.
No. It’s doesn’t mix in this way. As soon as you plug something into the line in, you are given this as an option for recording. However, you can only pick one.

TDCat Could you please advise as to the easiest way you can back track on a recording and then re record . That is to amend part of a recording just made
Two questions:
On build quality, how is the screen holding up? I have the old model from 2015 and the screen scratched way to easy.
On mp3 playback, does playback stop when you're selecting another track to play?
Thanks in advance!
This makes a nice mp3 music player too. Sounds great with headphones. Other nice features are variable speed playback and A-B repeat.
Can I play mp3 song stored in micro sd card in speaker? Please let me know.
@@sundeepcc4244 Pretty sure that's how it would work.
Great review.
Sir i have a question.can you tell me please, which recorder is best for capture college lectures and long distance clear recording?
This would do the job fine. In a lecture theatre, you’ll never get superb results if there is a lot of ambient noise from people typing or chatting but you will be able to understand and that’s what these devices are all about. The only way to get crisp and clear audio would be to mic up the lecturer 👩🏫👍🏻.

@@tdcattech Thank you sir.
4:03 it's good that Sony provided all the adoption documentation!
🤣
Sync record is used for line in audio recording
Thank you Sir. May I ask, do you know any recorder in the market who does that?
It was interesting. And how is it now after 3 years? And maybe I missed it, but does it make time stamps?
I'm interested in buying this unit, but first I need to know if it's able to run off a USB AC adapter. If so, could someone recommend one to me?
I really like the idea of dedicated tools for a job…
Me too. Better than apps on phones trying to outdo each other and then crashing.
Does this recorder show the date and time after recording?
Quick Question -- Were you ever able to figure out if you can you assign "custom" names to folders? (aside from the preset folder names, it would be quite nice to be able to assign custom names). Thanks.
How do you set the date??? I've pushed every concievable button combination I can image WTF???
What if I want to change an idea do I have insert?
great detailed content!! thanks
Perhaps the play Range is so you can just dig on tunes in the Music and perhaps other folders (esp. would be valid on shuffle play) with out random meeting and interview recordings playing (Range of folders to play? ) Maybe? - IDK..(I just ordered this today- I'll find out!)
Hi,
How do you clear the memory built in
21:55 there's another device with Bluetooth but it's more expensive $230 model A10 with high resolution audio.
Can you scrub/speed up and slow down the recorder audio tracks while previewing them?
I use all the time to record important phone calls with a pickup mic
One question. If I put it for record for 7 days on simultaneous charging will it do the recording properly?

Can we copy the voice record to transfer to the phone
Great video, just had a question can I insert an sd card which contains lectures and stuff on it and listen to the lectures on the sd card through this voice recorder?
pls reply thx.
Yes. This can be used to play music / audio files that come from elsewhere. It has a dedicated part of the menu for those using it as a music player.
@@tdcattech ok thanks a lot for letting me know.👍
How do you use the VOR? I have been trying to get mine to work but I am sure there are specific settings I need to sort.
can you do sony pcm a10 review, I need to know is it with inbuilt speakers
Thank you for the excellent video. I'm looking for a device to auto record/monitor nuisance dog barking. What is the delay on auto record i.e. approx how much of the beginning of the file is cut off? When does it stop auto recording i.e. after 10 seconds of quiet? Is a new file created every time it stops and restarts?
Do you already have the answer for this one? If not, I can double check for you.
@@JamesGadbury indeed, thanks

can we take line in from DJ
Completely agree about Bluetooth for file transfer and headphones! Incredibly frustrating! Do you have any good alternative devices with a Bluetooth function?
How do you get it voice activated
What’s the battery life like?
Does it have a voice squelch. recording when input is heard and paused when quiet. i would like to use line in from a radio receiver. to record only when active. ;).
Yes. It has a voice operated function where it pauses when it receives little or no input. In fact, I used it for a very similar purpose on this video - ruclips.net/video/NpQCtNgTPys/видео.html
How do I set it to start recording with out pressing record? Just when some one talks , does it record when it hears voice ?
I'm not with the device right now but this does support VOR (Voice Operated Recording) so if you enable this function, it will only record during speaking.
I'm looking for a voice recorder to connect to Dragon or some similar software and write to me in text format. What dictaphone to buy?
hi TDcat
nice job!
does it show any gauge tha lets me know i need charging?
There is a battery level indicator in the lower right corner.
did you use it with record this all video?
i need one for summer camp
I want to buy a Sony voice recorder. Should I wait for ICD-UX580? and how long should I wait for? or buy Tx650?
No. It's just a voice recorder. Unless you know it will have a specific feature you need, it is pointless waiting as there's nothing revolutionary here.
I deleted all the recorded files from the internal memory which comes with the device but still display that memory is full and doesn't let me record. Thank you for you Help in Advance
Can IT continue to an already created recording?
Changing the battery :(? After how use of loading time it's time for changing the battery but how?
Is it possible to search an audio section by time and date of recording? That'd be very helpful when the recorder is recording all day.
The ICD570 can be able to connect to Imac computer with IOS operating system?
I live in an area that has high winds at times. How does the microphone function in windy conditions? Does it come with a windscreen?

What a bummer... Do you know any such recorder?
Can you use the Rode VideoMicro with this recorder?
Hey thanks for video, does turning off the beep also stop it making a sound when turning on/ starting a recording?
Yes. Totally silent unless playing something back.
Please can plug it in my camera and record 2 sounds at the same time?
Hello TDCatTech: Can this version be used to DIRECTLY record telephone via use of Mic jack?
