Couple-a pro-ish tips for using the UX570 as an external audio solution for youtube: Use lowcut for windy scenes. Still need a deadcat in all outdoor cases. There are adjustable deadcats for Zoom handy recorders on the amazon that fulfill this need, that will fit over the recorder's internal mic. However, I use a Lav mic for this purpose - which usually will fit tiny deadcats of their own. Speaking of that - this recorder behaves oddly with external mics. I found all of my mics, Rode Wireless GO, and a mass market lavalier - run too hot for this recorder's default gain. I do voiceover work with this recorder, but the "voice" setting clips at even lowest gain. Weird. I use the Music setting instead - either on Auto or LOW (I use the lowest gain 99% of the time). The internal recorder preamp is reasonably free of hiss, unlike the majority of camera preamps. I am able to get a +9db gain in post before hiss becomes a distraction. Levels at Music/Low are a tiny bit lower than I'd like, but I can safely increase gain in post just fine without the hiss. Using Auto gain introduces an unnatural amount of compressor / limiter hiss. It's not great. And medium gain or higher ends up clipping way too easily. Music/Low ends up being the most natural sounding and most usable.
Awesome, funny and super helpful and straightforward review. I've been going in circles trying to figure out which one to get... you helped me choose. Thanks!
Good review but, one thing missing how is it at say a loud concert indoor or outdoor one. I know they are not allowed to be used at them. But, maybe a decent simulation can be close to give a idea on sound quality with the best setting for it. . Maybe a concert on a TV but, with a decent soundbar & subwoofer will help push that sound to more life like loudness (concert power). This would help in making a better decision on it.
Is it suitable for classroom recording? I plan to put it on the table near the teacher, hope thia device could record question and discussion from students in the classroom. It is not big classroom, only max 25 students in the class. Would it work for this usecase?
Hi. I'd really appreciate it if you could help me understand if this could do the following... I know this is dreadfully old school, but as well as capturing voice notes, i'd like this to store a small amount of ripped songs. I dont care about seeing song names (i'm used to screenless Ipod shuffles). I just want to have a folder for Jazz, a folder for Dance, etc and have maybe 30 or so songs in each. I'd input them with the line in jack and just feed tracks from my CD player and also individual tracks from RUclips. I'd be really grateful if you could tell me if this Sony could be used this way. Thanks

It's a great unit, I use it as a scratch pad for recording keyboard ideas. But as of 2024, I's really like to see Sony release a 24bit or even 32bit version, and no need for any gimmicks like reverb or drum patterns!!
How did you sync up the Sony audio with the video audio to show the difference in audio quality for your review? I can never seem to figure this out. Thanks
I just do a clap at the start of recording. Then in my video editor (Vegas Pro) i can line up the tracks according to the massive visual peak that the clap made. If that makes any sense?lol
@@RedForShort Ahhh...like the clapper board they use in the movies for the same reason. Can't believe I didn't answer this question myself...lol. Thank you.
I was just hoping that you would push "play" to the speaker to see if it was loud enough... I have no idea trying to look at it seems not to be a speaker
Thank you for the great review. I plan to mostly use to record all of my phone conversations after having yet another corporation lie to me in a phone call. If they record you in the U.S., one is well within legal rights to record them without having to disclose. When not convenient to record on speakerphone I'll use the Olympus TP-8 telephone pickup microphone in my ear. So the compactness of this over the Zoom H1N appeals to me. The best recorder is always going to be the one you have on you. I doubt I'd carry the Zoom as readily on an EDC basis. One other use...recording my hormone addled 11 year old daughter to play back to her how she sounds when talking to me.
Hey, I am considering getting this recorder for my voice overs for the wedding, did you experienced any breeze, from the audio? I I use zoom h1n and it doesn't do a good job when the voice tone changes, laughing, etc and I can't use dead cat because I attach the recorder to the mic. I would be grateful for the advice
It sounds like yours is faulty. I'd send it back and get a new one. I didn't have to do anything special to get the quality i got. Unless you have a look for quality or format settings and make sure it's set to a high bit rate. That's the only thing i can think of besides it being faulty.
Hi! This review was the very best I have seen! Quick question, how does it do picking, how well will it work for picking up sound from speakers from a school lecture and/or zoom call?
Hey great video, I want to ask about the distance range without an external mic, how do you think will it go with my recording in a lecture class with no external mic and how good would it be when I record it on my pocket or just put on the table with me sitting on the back or front?
Thank you for taking the time and sharing this.. I absolutely was convinced to buy one after seeing and hearing your tutorial ( I just bought one ) I want to use it with my dslr video recording and some music as well .. I dont really need sophisticated equipment to perform top notch projects .. this will do the job perfectly.. so.. thanks again man :)
Greetings! I just bought this unit to replace an earlier older version for our investigations teams. Great review! (Loving your accent - reminds me o'home) thanks kindly
Thanks for the useful review - I'm looking for something that shows the recording time very clearly as you're recording an interview so I can note down the exact time someone says something interesting.. Last Sony device I had was very hard to see at a glance. How's the display on this one?
Great video man! I film fly fishing videos and I'm using this as a stand alone device to capture my audio and then I sync it with my video in post production. Ideally, I would like to capture all the stream noise and surrounding ambient sounds but I need to cut wind noise. I use a Rode lav mic with a dead cat wind cover on the mike. Given that, what setting do you think would be best for me to try? Thanks again!
I've always been a big fan of Sony.. I bought the Sony PCM D100, very clean audio but it's a little bit bulky, So i was wondering about a smaller/thinner device for on the go, and cheaper than £500!!!!! lol this is very good, I'm impressed, thanks for the review
Thanks mate, great video! I currently have the UX560, what are the main differences between the two? Just wondering if it's worth an underage.. cheers. Subbed.
Why don't any of these reviewers talk about playback, fast forward and rewind features? I need a device that I can playback and rewind certain portions of it without having to start at the beginning. Would like to know if this recorder has those features!!

Cool Taffy!! Nice Overview! Wouls have liked a bit more on Direct Recording from 3.5 jack external music source. Mine seems to surge at the start then drops to the volume level i have set. Not sure why it does that? But nice overview. thanks.
I just got the UX570 and really feel like the sound quality is not nearly as good as my little Sony that I purchased back in 2016. The connector is bent on my old one so I was forced into purchasing a new one but really think this is a downgrade rather than an upgrade. I usually record classes from Zoom or my writing. It may be that I need to work with her a little bit more to have the correct settings on it. But so far I’m a little disappointed
Well you would have to get something like this amzn.to/2UflU8f and then maybe use Velcro to attach the Sony to it. Should work fine as the recorder is very light 👍

Thanks for saving me the work! Great review, love this recorder.
Jolly good reviews!
I’ve listened to like 15 and this made the most sense!
Your review was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you. Your dubbing the sound while displaying the settings used should be a standard.
Awesome, thank you!
That was really helpful for me! I wish I watched your video before started to record on this sony device 😅
Awesome review...thank you!
Can it be a sneak voice recorder? Does it make any kind of sound?
What is the capacity of the expanded memory?
I really cant think of a more powerful audio tool for $80
what setting is best for meetings?
Really needs a clip for tripoding

Can you transfer to a pc and then convert to text
Good www.youtube.com/@khalidbaacha
Deal breaker is - Can it record dual mode: internal mic and external source simultaneously?
You get a thumbs up straight away due to the INSTANT start on the product. No waffle.
Are you able to get information back if you accidentally erase?
I wouldn't think so, sorry 😞
Hi I bought one but I have a problem because I cann't record it sends a message Full Memory even though I deleted all the files. Is there a reset?
Can I have the recorder in my pocket and still record with good sound quality?
They'd probably come out all muffled. But that's true for any recorder inside a pocket as the material will be covering the mic.
@@RedForShort Can I perhaps modify some part that I can place in front of the microphone to avoid the sound against the material of the clothes? 🤔
Maybe. The other option is a lavaliere mic plugged in and then clipped to your shirt collar or similar?
@@RedForShort Maybe. I have to test it. Thanks 🙏🏼

Does it have a setting where it will only come on when there is a noise, or it hears a sound? We do not want to have it run continuously?
Yes there is a setting for that.
