I live that during the Asgore fight, regardless of your HP, he will always bring you down to 1 HP before actually killing you. As if he is hesitating, not wanting to do this. Deep down Asgore is like a large teddy bear, but forced to do this in hopes his people can be free.
"The world shall know fear when a good man's last hope feels he has no choice pushed over the edge, so never mistake their kindness for weakness."
The part that really hit me the most was when he said he wanted to see his wife and son again. This broken man, forced to do what he has to do for the good of his kingdom, even if it means to sacrifice his humanity.

Beautiful, isn’t it? The song you hear when you enter the capital. The only song with an irl instrument, a lone guitar. The most powerful song in the game… Undertale.
That's not true, actually. "The Last Goodbye" has a piano section Toby Fox played live, so Undertale isn't the only piece with an irl instrument.
But yes, powerful nonetheless.
@@pyramlinum9514 I’ve heard that Undertale was the only song with an IRL instrument so many times I assumed it was absolutely true.

Some fun facts:
- if you save Toriel's pie and eat it in Asgore's battle, it lowers his attack and defense too.
- using the stick as an item in a battle against a dog ends it immediately (although you lose the stick)
- in every boss fight, each of your hits start to do more and more damage after boss' HP bar reaches the mid point. A lot of people ended up killing Toriel back at the beginning by accident, thinking the fight stopped once her health was low enough (that was another way to spare enemies in random encounters), just for the blow to do way more damage than anticipated.
- if you have missed how meta the game was up to now; that battle after Asgore's will seem like the game suddenly bashes the 4th wall with a wrecking ball...
- Each of the hearts' attacks is based on one of each weapon you can find in the game: worn knife, tough glove, ballet shoes, torn notebook, frying pan and empty gun. Only the stick is absent (because that's yours).
Afaik you dont lose the stick though. I have used it several times when i have it in my inventory and spared multiple dogs with it and distracted madjick too
@@xd-px5ne the neutral route final boss doesn’t have a real knife attack because the first human’s soul wasn’t absorbed by him at that point.
You don't lose the stick. The dog fetches it for you and gives it back.
The real knife and worn dagger are the same weapon, its just that Chara and Frisk look at the weapon differently, Frisk sees it as a worn knife, Chara sees at as the first real weapon you run into.
Just a correction: the Patience (cyan) SOUL uses the Toy Knife, not the Worn Dagger, as that belonged to the first human
Flowey is basically what people that want more UT conent are. They've seen everything they killed everyone, they freed everyone. . .And after that... After that they can't feel much anymore so only when watching other passionate people making the same journey, "consuming their soul" can they feel at least some of the emotions they felt during their own playthrough.
Also they know the "right way" to play the game so does Flowey.
Nah I still feel emotions watching other people's playthrough and reactions to stuff, example this video, also the people wanting more after the game already had every corner checked and there was nothing to offer was what created the undertale AUs
@@mariotheundying Of course you still feel things when watching a playthrough, the point is that you wouldn't feel much playing on your own after seeing everything the game has to offer. And I agree, honestly. Don't get me wrong, I love Undertale, but I wouldn't play it again, I'd rather watch other people play it, ya know?
@@LoreCatan i did see everything before playing it, and i still did feel a lot, even if i knew whats going to happen
@@mariotheundying ...so the reason Flowey doesn't want you to stop playing right. Now that YOU are playing the game he can once again remember what it was like to have these feelings.
@@LoreCatan I have completed Undertale twice, both times on Pacifist, on two different PCs with 5 years difference in time (so I didn't even have to do the True Reset). I have no intentions of ever completing the Genocide route or playing it again in general. One of the best games ever. But yeah, I do still like to watch other people's reactions to it.
The combination of the mirror at the beginning ("It's you!") and the end ("Despite everything, it's still you.") is one of the most powerful things I've ever seen in a game. It makes me want to cry EVERY time.
Not to mention, you know, all the rest. The perfectly timed ending of the music on "You're gonna be free." The way all of the special attacks from the hearts stem from the items you collected along the way. Asgore destroying the MERCY button. "You called for help... but nobody came." I truly can't even list everything. This game is such a masterpiece.
You mentioned how Asgore seems like a reasonable person and how the music makes it seem like he doesn't want to fight, and I just want to talk about that from the writing side of things, because Asgore only misses out on being my favorite character in the game because a different character gets a lot of development in the true pacifist ending.
The game kinda goes out of its way to make you unsure about where Asgore stands from a morality standpoint. For starters, it misleads you by referring to him exclusively by his first name or by his title, trying to trick you into thinking that "Asgore" and "King Dreemurr" are two different people. "Asgore" is presented by Toriel and Undyne as someone who wants the protagonist dead, while the King is referred to as a big, fuzzy pushover, a kind man who is famously terrible with names. Then Undyne just outright tells us that "Asgore" and "King Dreemurr" are the same person. This tells us that King Asgore Dreemurr is viewed as a kind and pleasant man who happens to be personally responsible for the murder of six other humans, and wants the protagonist dead as well. The best way to reconcile the conflicting bits of information we have up to this point is by assuming that Asgore is kind to his people, but is also essentially racist towards humanity. The game then doesn't give you any significant information about him until New Home, where we learn his motives: He adopted the first human to fall, but after that human's death, his biological son absorbed the human's soul and went to the surface in an effort to fulfill the human's dying wish, which was to see the flowers that grew in their birthplace one final time. However, he was killed by humans, prompting Asgore to declare war.
Only then do we actually get to meet him, and his physical resemblance to Toriel(Which is because they're both part of the rare subspecies of monster known as Boss Monsters, whose souls are powerful enough to persist after death for a brief moment, the only exception to the general rule that only human souls persist after death, while monster souls are destroyed along with the body.) is used as a way of driving in the fact that he's actually a nice guy. He doesn't show any signs of malice towards the protagonist. He notes that he isn't ready for this encounter, compares it to a trip to the dentist(something unpleasant but necessary), and generally seems totally resigned. He even offers the protagonist every opportunity to turn back and delay things.(Choosing go back even prompts him to say that he considers the protagonist reading a book or going for a walk important enough to justify delaying.)
From meeting Asgore, everything about him screams that he doesn't want to do what he's doing. But then he breaks the Mercy button. While this can easily be interpreted as an act of malice designed to ensure the protagonist can't escape, that's not the case upon closer inspection. While fighting, Asgore can't even bring himself to look the protagonist in the eyes, instead looking down except when performing melee attacks with his trident. As the fight goes on, Asgore starts attacking faster, like he's desperate to get this over with. His attacks leave the protagonist at 1HP, only killing them if they were already at 1HP. He gets emotional when told to stop fighting, remembering something. Obviously, the music also plays a part in this.
And once he's defeated, he admits that his declaration of war against humanity was made in a fit of anger, and he has only stuck to it because he wants his people to have hope. He states that he "cannot take this any longer", says that he just wants to see his dead child and presumably dead wife again, and asks that the protagonist take his soul and use it to leave.
This all paints a very different picture as to why Asgore breaks the mercy button: Asgore has personally killed six other humans, and he hates himself for it.
He doesn't break the mercy button to stop the protagonist from fleeing, he breaks it because he feels he doesn't deserve mercy, and because he wants the protagonist to take his soul and leave the underground. This is further reinforced by a rather dark moment that occurs in subsequent neutral playthroughs, which I won't go into detail about because spoilers.
I enjoyed reading this
Another interesting thing to note is, in optional dialogue with Undyne, she comments that Asgore is a shockingly nimble fighter and that for the longest time, she couldn't even land a hit on him while sparring, because he'd just dodge out of the way. Yet, in his boss fight, he makes no attempt to dodge; he just stands there and takes your punishment, presumably due to his guilt.
@@purpleisthesneakiest nah bruh he just got back pain
@@purpleisthesneakiest One difference between humans and monsters is that monster attacks target the soul, while human attacks target the body. It's implied that monsters don't really know how to dodge physical attacks as a result. It's why no one else dodges your attacks either.
That said, perhaps Asgore is an exception. Boss Monsters live very long lives, so it's possible he was around before monsters were sealed in the Underground, and he would therefore have experience fighting humans.
I don't know which interpretation is right, but it would certainly be in character for Asgore to not dodge out of the way, even if he knows how to.
@@Gamesaucer well since asgore was part of the war between monster's and human yes he has experience in fighting them

What I find amazing by Toby is that if you die multiple times to Asgore, a special dialogue box will appear when talking to him.
If you’ve died a few times by him, by using talk, the text will read “*you told him you’ve died (x) times”
“He nods his head”
Showing that he has a basic understanding of DETERMINATION, perhaps not the whole thing but a basis of it that it can defy death itself at least.

@@yeetneet5334 I think it's because the kids have made the claim before. After all, every human Soul has Determination.
They fought, they died, they tried again, and insisted that he'd killed them. The first time or two may have confused or shocked him, but you're the seventh.
He's heard it before. He knows you'll come back. And he knows (or at least assumes) that after dying enough times, you _will_ give up.
And the thing is, if you, the player, lack the Determination to play the fight until you win- he's correct. In that timeline, he gets your Soul.
I dont think you are 100% correct@@Saiavinn, if you give up after not beating he, you can always come back to try again at that part, if it realy heppens your game shold be like, deleted or something...
@@SaiavinnThat's actually straight up wrong. Frisk reloads their SAVE file regardless of whether you continue to play the game or not. Asgore never gets the SOUL, it shatters and everything rewinds. You are given the option to continue or reset.
There is something thematically appropriate about defeating Asgore with just 1 HP....
Fun facts:
- Yes. Ruins and Waterfall share the same underlying leitmotif.
- Undertale's unique break of the Fourth Wall prior to the final boss only occurs on PC. (On consoles -- where games generally _aren't_ allowed to shut themselves off -- Undertale instead performs a "fake reset")
- Undertale has largely three different endings: The phone call epilogue from Sans was the "normal" or "neutral" ending, while Flowey gave you a hint about the "secret" or "true pacifist" ending. Inversely, there is the "bad" or "genocide" ending where you kill every monster until there are none left to kill, which is actually a bit harder to do than it sounds.
- Throughout the game, every time you backtrack there is a random chance that Flowey will appear (then disappear) off the edge of the screen, indicating he was secretly stalking you the whole time, waiting for an opportunity to strike (but not at you directly).
- Various monsters have easter eggs if you perform more ACTs even after you can Spare a monster. To name just the easiest one, there's a reason Lesser Dog has _five_ different "Pet" commands....
Flowey does not have a random chance of appearing, it always appears, but only in certain places. You can find videos on RUclips with all the places where Flowey appears.

With that music, that build up, everything you went through, "despite everything, it's still you" might just be the most powerful line in a videogame I've heard to date, and I doubt anything will beat it.
Undertale is the only game that made me cry, too. With OneShot being a second closest I was to crying.

@@Mernom it is, the guitarist is credited in the credits.
"Despite everything, it's still you" is my absolute favorite single moment. It's literally a moment of reflection, as you stare at a mirror image while the melancholy of the main theme plays. Reminding the player of the beginning and the end that truly aren't so different after all.
When Undertale acknowledges itself as a GAME, you remember why it gives you the option to either fight or befriend the monsters. Throughout the game, you find weapons and armor from the other fallen humans . You have the means to kill, but why does anybody want to destroy the happy , cheerful monsters ? The castle version of Home completes the image of the warm , cozy household that Toriel introduced . A lot of games have us go out and kill everything that moves, and Undertale has taught many about that mindset

Despite everything, it's still you. ❤
Truly hits hard. . I've seen it so many times but its always as potent
It's Me.
Dammit, Marco, you gonna make me cry not even ten minutes in?! Seriously, appreciate how you are unafraid to express your emotions.
And gods, you were so focused on the beginning, too. It really holds you, the last hour or so of the game
The man was too stunned to speak.
I was so excited to see how you'd react and I can say I was surprised, however, I completely understand. It's one of the most powerful moments in the game, the story of Asriel and the human, while Undertale plays is one of my favorite moments in any game. So much tenderness, sadness, grief, it's a track that with just it's first few chords sends me to tears. And your reaction to "Despite everything, it's still you" was one of the best, most emotionally sincere moments I've seen in a gameplay of this game, to say this line means the world to me would be an understatement, it's one that has helped me motivate and keep going during times of internal turmoil, cause no matter the hardships, the trials, the losses, you are still you, I'm glad it reached you, the same way as it did me back in 2015.
I also loved your reaction to Omega Flowey, cause truly, what do you even say about that lmao, it's chaotic, it's confusing, disturbing, and the music reflects that so well, and the little interludes with the souls building up this leimotif slowly, until it culminates in the sing Finale, which is this grand, heroic, powerful song that pushes the moment to new heights, I could probably break through a wall head on if you played it for me, gets me so ready for everything.
And An Ending, terrific track. Immediately one recognizes it's Ruins, but there's so much more weight to it, so much pain carried on it, a sense of tragedy. It's a fantastic way to close out the neutral route, extremely bittersweet, and a great way to end it.
Can't wait to see you do true pacifist next, thanks for the video!!
Im pretty sure An Ending is used to bookend the game by taking you through the Ruins and Waterfall themes as a sign of reflection whilst also leaving you wondering if there was any other way this could've turned out. And ultimately stopping abruptly with Flowey leading you towards the True Ending is a great way of leading players there
I almost had a heart attack when you nearly erasex your save file lol. To be fair, Flowey was a bit unclear. There's no need to Reset, you can just follow his advice and go see Undyne by pressing Continue then walking back to Waterfall :) great reaction btw, I always love seeing people be impacted by the "Despite everything, it's still you" line just as much as I was. Undertale playing in the background only makes it all hit harder imo
I felt the mirror reaction so much. I remember you listening to this song without context and still choking up, letting it hit you on an emotional level. I'm so happy to get to see you hear it in context and I'm glad to have gotten to watch you go through this adventure. Good luck with the rest, Marco!
"Despite everything, it's still you" is my favorite line in Undertale... I hope you really enjoy the ending Marco. Undertale is a true treat. What a fantastic game :)
That whole asriel and chara's backstory sequence made me cry a lot, even though I've played this game a lot and got through the same stuff over and over again but it never fails to make me tear up ugly, and your reaction made it even harder, the emotions are real.
Came for the music analysis, hoped for the singing to the opera sequence a couple of episodes back... And you the tearing up at "Despite everything, it's all you" is probably the most beautiful part of watching this series (at least, so far)
And, yeah, entirely get not being able to say much about the music in this one, there's huge emotions and then huge chaos going on. And then back to the huge emotions.
i really appreciate that you arent afraid to be quiet during these videos or feel like you need to be talking, it comes off as really genuine and i can tell you care a lot ❤
That mirror interaction get such an emotional response from so many people (me included). Most game developers could only dream of getting a reaction like that, and Toby gets it with basically 1 sentence.
Never thought I'd be tearing up watching an Undertale playthrough! You have been the most emotionally invested player, thank you for unreservedly expressing 💖
2:18 man shaken to his core by five little words
The last quarter of the game has such a notable paradigm shift that it recontextualizes everything before it, making all of your interactions and outward doing that much more impactful. It's really baffling how well it's executed, especially the telling of Asriel's backstory with Undertale playing throughout. It's been among my favorite moments in gaming within the past decade easily, on par with the emotional weight of things like "The walk" in FFXIV Endwalker.
So many profoundly impactful messages in such a small, inexpensive little indie game. It's really a marvel to see, and we're lucky we get to experience such a thing in our lifetime.
Also goes to show just how much music can impact context and vise versa. Undertale is a masterpiece of OST on its own, but given context, it just swells so much.
Love the content Marco, and I'm glad to experience this alongside you. Made me tear up again just like when I first saw these scenes some 7-8 years ago
Aside from how beautifully emotional the "Home" section was, I am stunned at how well you did against Omega Flowey. I've seen so many playthroughs of this game, and people almost always die before even reaching the first checkpoint. You made it halfway through before your first death. You must have had a lot of DETERMINATION.
"Despite everything, it's still you," is probably one of the most impactful lines in gaming to me. Every time I see it, paired with this music, I start to cry. There's something truly beautiful about walking through a long journey, throughout life and all it's trials, and still looking into the mirror and seeing *you.* This line means enough to me that I got a 3d-printed replica of the chat box with this line, and hung it beneath my mirror.
It's crazy how a game can be so much more than that. When you said it might be too personal to explain your reactions(22:00), it explained it all. Everyone has led a different life up until this moment and can shape how certain games can resonate with you. The beautiful thing about games like undertake is that everybody can have a shared experience that can yet somehow be completely different.. I played undertale when it first came out over 7 years ago and I've always come back to it time and time again. Your playthrough got me back into my "undertale mood" again. Reading through these comments has honestly been such a joy. Being reminded how much this game means to people while simultaneously being reminded why it means so much to me is a such blessing that I'm so grateful to have! I just wanna thank you for doing this, both your Undertale content, and your other content. Even though I may not watch every video you make since those games aren't my cup of tea, I'm still grateful for you delivering that same love to other people's passion! Also, I just want to tell you that you're such a strong person, being willingly vulnerable to emotions on cam. Not everyone is willing to completely indulge themselves into their deepest emotions in front of others (or in this case, thousands!) . I deeply love and respect that part of you and I look forward to seeing what you'll bring next!
I'm so glad you checked the mirror, it's such a small thing, but one of the most powerful things I've ever read. I'm also happy you realised the connection between Asgore and Toriel :)
This game goes from the most cheerful to the most deep and sad game ever, down to the smallest details, and it's beautiful.
Loving this, can't wait for the true ending!
This moment Hits me in the feeling
No matter how often I played through this
And the (Fan-made) Musical version of "Undertale" by Man on the Internet hits the feelings even harder
in my first playthrough I started tearing up before the mirror... and I'm not the type to tear up... anyway, mirror made it worse. then in the long hallways I had that weird feeling in my throat and when I got to the end of the hallway I was already crying. This was the first game to ever make me cry.
Undertale and Omori... They're something special, man.
Marco's reactions are really good. Even if he doesn't speak much, you can tell that he's really taking in the music
This is the first playthrough I've ever seen that _perfectly_ captures how I felt the first time I played this part. _Nothing_ can prepare you for it.
Asgore’s music speaks to my soul man. You’re reaction from the mirror and beyond, I felt it.
Also, this battle is super tough being lvl 1 with only 20 health.
Love your vids.
Whenever Flowey attacks with the souls, he uses items that you can find around and use, because they are things the past humans left behind.
God, Undertale (the track) hits much harder with the context doesn’t it. Suddenly, the tragic yet hopeful sound it conveys makes a lot of sense. The monsters have lost everything, yet they’re full of happiness and hope as they’re so close to finally being freed.
Also, rejoice as you don’t have to fight Asgore and Omega Flowey again. As Flowey pointed out, visiting Undyne and doing some other things will set you on the path for the better ending.
If this was a neutral run like your initial streams of the game were, this is where it would end. But as of now, you’re around 60-70% of the way through this route.
‘Despite everything, it’s still you.’
UNDERTALE playing in the background while reading "Despite everything, it's still you." in the mirror was a one-two punch I just wasn't expecting the first time I played the game, and it still gets me in the gut every time I see it now. Glad to see that I'm not the only one it hits hard for
Your reaction on the line "Despite everything, it's still you" combined with the music was perfect, that mixed with this masterpiece playing while hearing the sad backstory of two children
This game is something else man.
We are way past this point, but it is a good example of just how much music can mean for your enjoyment of a game, and how it can anchor a moment so perfectly in your mind:
(Spoilers for earlier in the game. This series is far past that point.)
When I originally played Undertale, the very moment I knew it was going to be one of my favorite games was when Papyrus did his special attack, the music stopped, and he goes "you're blue now, that's my attack" and the absolutely killer "Bonetrousle" starts playing, in lieu of "Nyeh Heh Heh" which had been playing up until then. The drum really underscored the moment perfectly.
Okay, I finally gave in. I've been watching your content sporadically every time RUclips suggested it but finally this video has convinced me to subscribe.
Your raw reactions to the events happening and your added insight and comments about the music just add so much extra to an already good gameplay series, and I'm happy to keep on watching from now on.
;) hi
Finally someone who has my exact reaction to New Home. Undertale (The song that plays during that portion) is the best song in the entire game. It hits your right in the gut, and I remember crying as well my first playthrough, not because of the sadness of the story, but just... Because. Something about the song just had a sense of warmth, sorrow, hope, and humanity that really made it perfect
I have a pin on my backpack that just says “despite everything, it’s still you” and it’s really hard to explain to people why that line is so impactful, so it was great to see you react exactly the way I do whenever I see it. You’re a great one, Marco 💕
wow, 3 minutes in and it already landed a critical hit right in the feels.... Damn.
I played Undertale and NieR Automata back-to-back in 2018 and they really made me rethink my relationship with video games. They just elevate video games as storytelling medium like few other games can.
I experienced so much joy watching you experience Undertale. I was like yes, now he understands!! Also no matter how many times I play or watch it I still get emotional, that mirror always gets to me too
oh man my heart skipped a beat when you almost didn't check the mirror!! so glad you doubled back and checked it. that line of dialogue is definitely like a gut-punch the first time you see it for sure. makes me cry every time. glad to see it hit you just as hard. what a wonderful journey this has been so far! can't wait to watch the rest.
Love how there's not much commentary but the emotions on your face say it all anyway and make the playthrough a little more meaningful tbh.
I just finished watching, and your reaction to the song Undertale and the mirror made me tear up. Will definitely watch the last episode. Thank you for making these.
"Despite everything, it's still you" don't worry Marco, we all felt that one when we saw it
jesus christ man, ive seen and played through that many times yet the line "despite everything its still you" combined with the powerful music never fails to make me cry dude 😭😭 your reaction was exactly how it makes me feel each time
Man this reminds me of my first playthrough so much. Up until the end I didn't really get Undertale. I played it on and off over the course of a week or two. Then I got to Asgore's house, and I felt so bad (rip Toriel bc damage multiplier). The music and story really hit me to the point I replayed the whole game again after winning. For the a better ending.
its odd seeing someone be quiet for most of it. but its good. its very good.
just by facial expressions alone I can really tell how you're feeling and what you're thinking when you see some stuff, and honestly? its a breath of fresh air and i can tell you're having the same thoughts as me and others did. its nice not seeing someone go "OH MY GOD!! ASGORE!! WOAHHH!!" for once haha.
:)
Your reaction to "Despite everything, it's still you." resonated with me, I instantly started sobbing 😭even after so many years, that line never fails to make me have feelings.
This series is such a delight and very insightful. Thank you for doing this let's play!
I know I'm late reacting to this, but...
Marco, you're reactions are.... so *genuine* ... It's been said before, I know, but I haven't said anything...
You didn't utter a single word from the moment you came to the entrance of New Home, and Undertale began playing... Not a single murmur... yet, when the music began, a wave of nostalgic sadness drenched me, and I broke down once more, like I was experiencing it blind for the first time all over again... genuinely crying...
This entire section of the game was the hardest-hitting for me, hands down. Especially when doing the True Pacifist route, knowing full well that you've come this far with the goal of freeing the Monsters from their fate, and letting them see the sun once more... and you're so close... you're at journey's end, and you know what you want to and have to do. Which makes it all the more breaking...
And interacting with the mirror in New Home... That hit man. Your reaction (or lack there of) to that spoke absolute volumes... "Despite everything, it's still you..." is one of the most heart-wrenching lines of dialogue I've ever read in a video game...
With all that being said -- Thank you, Marco for feeling how us fans felt, experiencing New Home for the first time, listening to the tale the Monsters had to tell, and their pleas of bringing them with us to see the light of the Surface once more... And thank you Toby, for being a master at your craft, of story-telling, provoking thought and emotion, and composing prowess... From the bottom of my heart... Stay determined ❤

"Despire everything, it's still you."
Correct me if I'm wrong chat, but that text is not a guarantee to have. Which is why it makes it all the more special.

Iirc it only changes on the geno route
Oh mannnn. We've reached the point where it hit me how emotionally invested I was in this game (still am honestly-). Overall, it's been a little silly and very fun journey, but I love how it knows how to take itself serious when it has to, no jokes, no funny interjections. Just true raw emotions, with good music to amplify it or silence to let it sink in. The mirror is always the hardest hitting part, both storywise and personally. So simple, but effectively comforting. Your reaction? Yeah, I felt that, we all did really :')
Well, hope you've been enjoying the story so far! Kinda makes you think back to all the little details scattered everywhere that was hinting to the ending and truth. IK you already finished ur playthrough, so I hope the true ending was worth it for ya! ^^
Seeing someone get hit by the genuine emotional gut punch/warm embrace that is "Despite everything, it's still you." always makes me wanna cry
I admit I teared up the moment the music started to play. Undertale is such a unique game. I can't erase it from my memory to experience it for the first time again but watching your reaction was the closest I could get to it
I love the common themes between Toriel and Asgore.
Both use fire magic, both do not want to fight you, and both avoid killing you as much as they can.
Toriel by her attacks pointedly avoiding you once your HP reaches a certain point, and Asgore by having his attacks never kill unless you are at one HP. Anything above that, and he will only drop you to 1. It's brilliant story and gameplay integration.
As a person that got seriously sick and still has trouble. That "despite everything it's still you" always makes me cry.
Now that I've watched the whole video, man I remember feeling very similar to you my first time in the copy of the house...
The music, the atmoshpere. It just blends perfectly and makes this a game I have to replay for myself. Just to realise: Yep it's still just me, despite all this time.
I finished Undertale awhile ago. Last year. In December. I had known of the game for a long time before finishing too, i was obsessed before i could buy it and play it myself. I’ve still been obsessed. I listen to the soundtrack so frequently, it’s ingrained in my brain. I regularly search for new Undertale content to watch. I talk about the game everyday. When i clicked on this video, i was surprised where it started. In new home. I cried. Immediately. No matter how many times I’ve seen this section, played through it, listen to the OST. This. This always makes me cry. Undertale is a great game.
as someone who has been a fan of undertale for like 6/7 years and met one of my best friends because of this game
the "home" track genuinely makes me feel so emotional
it just like encapsulates all the good this game did for my life
Two words : THANK YOU!
Now to elaborate : Thank you so much for this musical playthrought, I cannot express how much it's means to me. The recents few days weren't the best for me, I've seen worst, but I still felt a bit down and the simple fact to watch this video help me a lot and made me feel better. Yes the game is great, the musics, the dialogues, the moral, all of that is incredible, but take someone who doesn't give a damn and you'll probably end up with a genocide run or at least the feeling of theses videos wouldn't be the same.
That's why I'm thanking you, for this video, for the emotions, your sensibility, for being you... You impact us so much more than you can realise in our daily life and wathever your doing, your doing it good. Yes you didn't talk much during this video, yet there wasn't anything else to say at the moment, simply the flow of emotions traversing your mind and body and bringing back pleasant and less pleasant memories.
That's why I love this this game and that I think it's so great, because it's not just a game, it's a story told to the player directly. Like a myth or a poem, you may have a different way to see it than the other person next to you and in that sense, the emotions and the memories will be different too.
Once Again, THANK YOU MARCO for the amazing journey and I can't wait to see you in the next episode!
Until then, I will wish you and everyone else, a happy and cheerful day!
wow. Thank you.
@@MarcoMeatball Your welcome, you deserve it ❤
"Despite everything, it's still you" is something I say to myself all the time now. No matter what goes on in my life, no matter what hardships are thrown my way, I'm still myself. And I will never lose that.
It's comforting. Toby Fox hit it out of the park with this one.
I didn't watch the rest of your videos with this game yet, but for some reasons I had tears on my eyes after seeing the grey house and Undertale ost
I barely wrote this comment by barely seeing where I'm typing, this game is wonderful
This section is emotionally impactful for sure. Music is spot on.
Great job clearing Neutral run! Now you're rolling into the full pacifist ending which I think ties in even more wonderful music and emotions.
Crazy to think this little game can hit so hard in the feels.
Listening to you manage to make some insightful comments about Finale while also having to deal with the continuing visual onslaught was wonderful.
Thank you. Thank you for being so honest about your reaction to "Despite everything, it's still you." I could see in your face a parallel of how hard that line hit me. It cuts deep, makes you reflect. It's one of my favorite moments in any media.
Speechless is exactly a reaction that everyone has to this part.
man... I played Undertale YEARS ago and when I saw the raw emotion that you showed reminded me of my first time playing. I'm glad you were able to enjoy this masterpiece of a game.
“Despite everything, it’s still you” makes me sob every time. Such a simple, beautiful sentiment.
The minute you said “I have a lot of thoughts” I paused the vid and started crying for the next couple of minutes. That is what was bottled up since the start of this video. I never had seen a pacifist run and don’t see why these are more popular. They make you cry more than one piece. If you seen most of one piece you would get it.
Something fundamental to the Undertale universe is that when you deal damage, the damage you do isn't just scaled off your weapons attack value.
Its also scaled on your INTENT to hurt.
The more you fight, the more damage you do, the deeper your hatred or anger for your opponent, the more damage you do.
the choice, the theme that plays during JUDGEMENT when sped up is just the undertale theme, it kills me how much thought is in the games music, its great I love it
Knowing how you described the connection you felt to the Undertale-song, your reaction in the beginning was very touching
You are a man of few words, but those few you manifest are filled with purpuse. I respect that, friend
"Despite everything, it's still you" is still, to this day, one of the most powerful lines I've ever come across in a video game: I'm planning to get a tattoo of it over my heart when I get the chance!
Edit: I got the tattoo: it's everything I wanted it to be!
That line, I have seen a fair number of people play Undertale, and a lot of them end up either missing that line, or gloss over it, somehow it does not hit them the way it visibly struck you. I think that is because you have been attending to the music so meticulously, and that meant that you were somehow more present in that moment, more open to the meaning in the line, it hit hard and deep. Good job man.
2:20 The emotions are strong. Remember at the start, the mirror said "It's you!" He hasn't said anything since then... it's been over 16 minutes since then...I know the feeling
"*DESPITE EVERYTHING... IT STILL YOU"
Still make me cry so easily... damn
Sometimes a touching history is not always writen in books, sometimes you find a great adventure, a sweet love, a tragic but heroic sacrifice as teacher-student, or sometimes just a bitter-sweet battle for a destiny.
Those are the best to gave a sweet time to feel and a great lesson to apply in our lives.
But I see more feelings in your eyes than anyone playing this game, I hope you still enjoying making more reactions in the future, and thank you.
just want to say real quick the line "Despite everything it's still you" is why i LOVE the game
