In 0:33 “Long Way” Sierra is undoubtedly INSANE, but why wasn't anyone freaking out that Eddie Barbash was doubling everything sierra was playing just as clean?? :O :O
I think we can all agree that the level of good that that Long Way clip is warrants an entire Funkgrass album. How well mandolin fits within this sort of ensemble (both here and with Chris Thile in FF) is like an epiphone.
I trained and learned how to play with the Flecktones, using their albums, starting with Live Art, and working backwards. It’s one of the best, and funkiest, with lots of space. I play violin, and a little mando, so I can attest, that’s a great recommendation.
Will be my first Cory Wong show - hometown show - so psyched! I didn't even make the Sierra connection until just now - Wow! (being a huge Bluegrass fan this is amazing)
@@scottymckay2813 This will be my third, he puts on an amazing show! You can feel the same chemistry during the show they have here behind the scenes here. Oh and as a bonus, his last two tours he had the Minneapolis show filmed and put on YT so wear a bright hat and you might see yourself in the video if that happens again haha
Love that a mando is playing funk and jazz. Folk instruments (and artists!) are severly underrepresented in the current music scene. Sierra is of course a force of nature as always.
Lol to the reactions of the band after "Long Way"... We made it to the show in Burlington, Vermont, and after seeing Sierra open, my husband was like ... We could leave now, and I'd be happy. That woman is insanely talented. Props to Corey for not being worried about having her show him up 😂 Looks like everyone is just there to make good music!
Oh! This songs with Antwaun Stanley left me with no words... Amazing! Also very good thing Cory mention before about not playing the overhelming and too much on the show but giving more space and let the arangment do the work. Giving all of you is good, but I think it's very subtle thing that have it's own time and space. Precious. Thanks!
Just caught the show in Indianapolis....and believe me when I say "Long Way" was even more insane live! Sierra Hull was by far the best opener I have ever seen for any band. Musically, this whole show was the tightest and most crisp sounding show out of any live performance I have seen. Antwaun was just amazing. Words aren't really doing it justice.
I'm left-handed, and play guitar right-handed. It's always astounded me the people can play a Strat body upside down without restringing, I literally was just trying it a few days ago. The knobs, the whammy, everything is in the way. And Sonny T. makes it look EASY. WOW
Sierra is a shredder and man, Antwaun, feeling a little like Luther... Thanks for making working at home a better thing, can't wait till you guys hit the West Coast again
This band alone was fantastic, but adding Sierra and Antwaun into the mix brought it so far above anything I could have expected. I am so glad I did not pass up the chance to see them live on this tour.
Such a great combination of informality at a rehearsal and the great professionalism of this group of wonderful musicians. Who else would put their rehearsals out there? Thank you.
Cory and the band blew us all away in Des Moines on 2/16. Every musician on the stage was glowing with love and energy and the audience looped it back. Best concert I've seen in a long time. Thank you Cory and the Wongnotes.
Love the appreciation your band has for each other’s parts. The looks they share when they’re blown away all over again by the guy they play with every day is just sick! So much love in that room dude. Thanks for all your work and constant push for creativity. You’re an inspiration
Love the mix of professionalism, hilarity, and top notch musicianship in these videos. Just saw you all in Brooklyn this weekend, and you KILLED it! This was like watching the "making of" DVD of that concert. Sierra is amazing - love how you included and featured her. So glad we caught you on this tour - you guys are incredible!
This is an incredible combo. I’d love hear the mandolin even more, but her frequencies seem to be easily buried under the snare and guitar specifically. Would like to hear a bit more EQ notched out for her
I think some of that has to do with the rehearsal mix, which would be fairly quick and dirty. Also we're hearing it directly from the board, not in the room that they were playing in. I'm sure for the actual shows the FOH engineers will have it handled
bear in mind too, that acoustically the mandolin is much much quieter than drums, and guitar amps, and horns. They've only got a mic on it, which will have plenty of bleed from all the other noise going on in the room, especially in such a small rehearsal room.
Wow Sierra Hull 👍🎵🎼 Is there any genre/style she can't play! Just came off My Bluegrass Heart tour with very complicated songs/arrangements and now THIS. Mindblowing! Such a great artist/musician! All great musicians! Hopefully more tour rehearsals will be uploaded.
So the Google algo brought me here and now im just sitting here with my jaw on the floor. Are these just band nerds that grew up?!? I want to be a part of this funky thing..
Going to see you guys tomorrow night at the TLA in Phila!... cant wait.. Thank Sierra for me discovering you - since I follow her!.. . I missed her last Phila appearance.. You guys are awesome!.. Already posted on FB..
This is so insanely awesome!!! This whole VLOG is great, but from 0:34 to 2:15 - I mean what a combo Funky Bluegrass....this is swinging SO tight it's almost naughty and all the really good vibes between members is coming right in the viewers face :) Could ya'll just considering coming to Europe on tour in that setup and particular Denmark when this pandemic is all over please!!!!! Cory & Team and Sierra - you're amazing
I think I speak for everyone watching when I say we need a bluegrass-funk album ASAP
@@iamthemoneyj those are acoustic, not bluegrass. Similar but definately different.
It IS coming!!!

Funkgrass inbound 🙏

I hadn't seen him playing but immediately knew it was him.
cuz he was reading music? (no idea...) :)
yeah eddie kills it here, doing that on a sax is wild
bc that's just regular stuff for Eddie
Justice for Eddie! 👍
Michael B. Nelson is the best horn arranger in the business the end.
no doubt about that
I think we can all agree that the level of good that that Long Way clip is warrants an entire Funkgrass album. How well mandolin fits within this sort of ensemble (both here and with Chris Thile in FF) is like an epiphone.
check out bela fleck and the flecktones. similar sound
@@jamariopetitte6542 totally… such a huge flecktones vibe from this vid.

Absolutely KILLING!
Sierra is a MONSTER player!
indeed
Antwuan Stanley didn’t have to make me cry watching a rehearsal video man. So damn good man
Petar is a freaking gem. Love how goofy and laid-back he is but when it comes time to go he's got monster precision combined with a great, loose feel.
killin' with the brushes
My "six degrees of Bela Fleck" theory holds - everybody awesome has a steadily decreasing Fleck-distance. Loving this collab.
Man oh man. Antwaun opens his mouth and it sounds like an album take. Unreal.
Cory Wong is shaping up to be a must-see on every tour. 💙 I can't believe tickets are only $25
here in europe i payed $56

Holy smokes that Sierra solo was insanely good. Also, Antwaun's giant battery and Sonny's Metal Zone were hilarious. Band sounds amazing.
Love to see how humble Antwaun is when receiving that feedback. Love all of this, tbh!
Love that a mando is playing funk and jazz. Folk instruments (and artists!) are severly underrepresented in the current music scene. Sierra is of course a force of nature as always.
1:07 what a line! Great to see the crew having fun and nailing down these songs. Cheers!

This gives big Bela Fleck and the Flecktones vibes. Really good stuff.
Absolutely in love with Petar's expression on the crash at 0:50
18:24 this whole talk is on point. Dallas Meditation in the encore… the room was in your hands. that was a religious experience.
I was also at the Dallas show, one of the best performances I’ve ever seen!
Sonny T is hilarious!!!
This is the perfect outdoorsman theme.. idk why but I always get that vibe from Simon...
Never heard mandolin and horns together like that, just mind-blowing. What a band!!!

"Where are we now" ... took me to church. Awesome. Amen.
1:53 great sequence from Sonny. What a legend. "why don't YOU sound like that?"

Luther Vandross right?
Cory: "My preference is..."

coming to see you guys in Charlottesville, very excited
Show was great, really glad I went
Love you, Cory, but I'm team Petar on this one. Let that boy loose!!
Outrageous! She adds SO MUCH to the sound.
Special Cory, ... Yeah great funk!!!! Un abbraccio Fabio (ITA)
The more and more I see. The more excited I get for the concert in Nashville
Sierra hull solo on Simon is great
The intro tune with all the jaws hitting the floor when Sierra played was simply game recognizing game

I LOVE how everyone is just so impressed at Sierra's playing!
