Hey man! That's a great trip report you provided here. The price of 110 Euro is more on the higher side since it doesn't provide a shower and WiFi as a sleeper train, especially for me who relies on WiFi so much :( Despite that, it is a relatively modern look sleeping cabin with newly furnished closets as well as great-looking toilets, a huge plus for me who needs a toilet every early morning after I wake up from sleep :D Also, the carriages are so quiet compared to the EMUs when it speeds down the mainline. Before I end comments here, as a takeaway, I think is train should be called "Central Euro or Visegrad Sleeper Express" since it runs in central European regions and they are also the Visegrad groups as well :D Cheers from Malaysia
Thanks a lot! I think that this price is still quite good compared to other night trains (e.g. Nightjet). With the sleeper train, it is also necessary to take into account that the cost of one night in a hotel will be saved. As for Wi-Fi, I don't think it's needed that much on a night train, just have a SIM card with data, and EU data roaming applies throughout the EU, so data from one EU country can be used in another EU country. Greetings from Prague :-)
Thank you :-) I know that there are 2 deluxe compartments in these sleeping cars, but the reservation system usually doesn't offer the option to choose it (at least it was like that on my trip). Maybe because on some days a different type of sleeping car was operated on this route.
WLAB10mnouz 305ad can still be ordered new. There is a pdf at FPS Poznan with all technical data. IMO the best of all cars. Beats even new nightjet sleeping car, because they are single units and therefore flexible. The deluxe compartments in the middle with the bathroom sections are just perfectly designed. I want European Sleeper or any other private company to order these ones, instead of leasing 1950s stock.
I still cannot get over the fact that PKP removed all of their carpeting from the sleeping, couchette and restaurant cars. Looks so Nordic. I don't like it. The cozyness it offers is unparalleled.
One thing Nordic trains has going for them is that they use a lot of wooden panelling to make the compartments more cozy. The modern PKP sleepers is more like a dentist office xD
It was a MÁV Da6404 historic car. The first 2 carriages behind the locomotive were attached only to tow the set to the depot at Budapest Keleti, probably due to braking percentages, as the original set was not brake tested after the locomotive was connected.
Thank you :-) I bought my ticket online from PKP Intercity, but sometimes it needed to buy a ticket in the ticket office (usually when the promo tickets are sold out).
Compared to sleeper cars of other carriers and also with older PKP sleeping cars, this type is not very comfortable. On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate it a 6, mainly because of the mattress.
I bought the ticket via PKP website (but you must be registered), but not all connections / days could be bought this way, I think it is only possible to buy if a promo tariff is available, otherwise the website refers you to the counter. But last year I had the same problem, when I was traveling from Vienna to Warsaw, there was not possible to buy a ticket via PKP, so aI bought my ticket from ÖBB.
110 euros is way too much for this service.. you don't even get a shower, acceptable breakfast or a comfortable matress and your journey is 13 hours long. I can literally get a Wizzair at 8:45AM from Warsaw and get to Budapest in an hour for 60 euros. I'd expect at least Nightjet or ČD Night standard for this price.
The 109 euros also included a nights accommodation which makes it more competitive with air travel where you would have to pay for accommodation separately
