The beauty of today is that we can choose our own style 😁 do it no matter how long it takes and see if it's you! I'm 31 and I'm always changing my hair 💇
Hi Lucy! Just a quick tip: to reduce frizziness expecially on the tips, try and brush them against the palm of your hand and mold the curl that way. It really works! By the way I love your tutorials, expecially the historical ones, I'm a big history freak! Keep up the good work!
With pin curls the best first thing to remember is you setting pattern will absolutely have an effect on the direction the curls go, and the look after brush out. Alternating rows was very common for 30s and 40s to get those perfectly lovely s curves, or c curls. Think Veronica lake who had really long hair. Another huge thing is patience with the brush out. Break the curls up with fingers first, and then use a brush. It will get poofy, frizzy and over all terrifying, but the more you brush the smoother it gets, and make sure you are shaping and brushing at the same time. I like to use my hand to help shape and smooth. I hold a section in hand and run the brush over and around my palm. I think the 1940s are the best years for pin culs. Although the 30s bob can be fun.
With that tiny comb you put in your hair. If you want to create that true 40ties effect you need to do the comb and tuck. So you take that little comb and turn it around so the inside of the comb is facing up. Then you cpb the bit of hair you want to pull back with that tiny comb (again still with the inside facing up) Then when you get to the spot you want your hair to be pinned back, you lift up the comb a bit and twist it so the right side is facing up. And then you slide the comb in your hair. This gives that nice tucked effect to the hair and it's very very secure. My grandmother taught me this.
Natascha Clerinx Please, I am trying to understand what you're saying to do but I can't comprehend your instructions. Is there any other way you can explain it? I really want to do this hairstyle
Sarcastic Wallflower it's kinda like how you do a Bobby pin. Start with the wavy edge on top, slide through hair, and flip the Bobby pin so the wavy edge is now on the bottom. It's a securing method. Did that help at all? It's weird to explain 😕
momoyome I had my aunt do crazy curls on me a while back , and she accidentally brushed them into a frizzy mess. I can't believe I was only a few more brush strokes away from this! I'm kicking myself
Thank you for the tutorial! I graduate high school in may and I’m having a late 1940s early 1950s themed party and I’m so exited to start dressing in the vintage style!
I really can't stand make-up and hair tutorials on RUclips but I love your tutorials. Your approach is so fun and relatable, plus you describe things incredibly well. Thank you!
I remember in my pinup days when I used to do a Marilyn look pretty much every day, occasionally I would do a 40s brushed-out curls style, my hair was dark and a lot shorter back then so it kind of looked like Ava Gardner ☺️
Thank you for making this. I pincurl my hair a lot, but since I have bangs and long hair, I have never been able to make it look "authentic". I will give this a try soon.
According to my old coametoligy books, U did curl ur hair in the correct dirrection according to how they would curl in that era...And ur hair turned out lovely.
Perfect. My daughter has mid-back length hair and is playing the part of an American tourist in the 1940's. I'm going to work on perfecting this for the production in December. Thanks for the tutorial
Ooh, I love this, you look just like Peggy Carter! This is perfect for a fancy dress party or something - it's such a classy look. Thanks for the modification for us longer-haired girls as well!
My hair is naturally like this when I brush it out or after I blow dry it for an exaggerated look. I have always felt insecure with my hair. But now I love my hair Im happy that you made this .and you rocked the look!!!
Teresa if it works please let us know the results I have just passed hip length very thick hair and will be doing an Anzac concert. would like to look authentic.
So cute! I know it's not a current trend, but I think this hairstyle would look really pretty with a modern casual look. Kinda like throwing on a blazer over your jeans and t-shirt.
BEAUTIFUL!! YOU'VE MADE IT LOOK EASY...I MUST PRACTICE BEFORE OUR FORTY-FIRST WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CRUISE! (2024) YEAH...WE'RE NEVER TOO OLD TO TRY! GLAMOROUS IS 'IN'
For brush outs, you want a brush with some slip. You have a smoothing brush which is not helping your brush out. It helps smooth out the top, but not for brushing out your curls. Alternatively, you don't want a detangler like a Tangle Teezer as it has too much tooth and you'll never get out of the 80s poof stage (which is, as you have witnessed, a dreadful stage indeed.) Some slip is going to help merge your curls faster and not have them look like three curls (the fact you curled them the opposite way doesn't matter; they'd be more wavy over curly in a brush out. I've done this more than you know. XD) While you certainly do not need to go out and find yourself a Denman styling brush (because, bleh, who needs a designer brush), you need a brush with some slip (but tooth!) that will tackle the brush out with ease. My mom and I used to battle over a Conair brush because she loved that it brushed out her hair with ease and I loved how easy it brushed out my pin curl sets without ripping out my hair (with my thin, baby fine lupus hair...if it doesn't rip out my hair, I love it.) The brush is dead, so I haven't done sets for a while, but I'll see if I can't leave you a link to show you what to look for. www.walgreens.com/store/c/conair-brush-hair-brush-set/ID=prod6008121-product
THANK YOU!!! I've been looking for something like this! I have long hair and want this look but no way will I cut my hair!! Not to mention the fact that I also have bangs and couldn't figure out how to fit them in!! THanks! Can't wait to try!
You explained all the details in such a way that you made it look effortless. I love the way your hair turned out. It's a great deal of work when transforming your long hair to the twenties look, but it turned out beautifully on you.
where is her accent from? Wow...these are great. BUT you have really gorgeous hair that can suit any style. Styled or not, ITS always great. You don't have problem hair like 99% of people.
Lily Hutchinson in the Victorian era women would grow out their hair super long. So maybe you can try styles from that time, I think they would work really well!
When your hair is curled, it is about the same length as Lake, Hayworth, and Bacall's hair. Long hair was not unheard of then. 😉 Will try this. Thanks for the tips!
A Denman brush works the best for me when doing a brush out. The rubber base makes zero static and frizz when brushing out. And you were correct, combing through the curls with your fingers first helps. Other than that great video!
Love it! The way you’re able to do these older hairstyles on longer hair is really cool. Nicely done! Oh, and also cool you’re Dutch. I was able to notice the accent, however, it’s not as thick as the Dutch accent of most Dutchies. Big complement to you! Your English is also really good. Keep on doing what you do :), also cool that one of your videos went viral, that’s how I found your channel. To end, Loepsie, je kanaal is heel gaaf, je hebt leuke informatieve videos en een fijne manier van vertellen. Greetings from another Dutch girl.
I have hair of a similar length and like to wear the brushed out curls, but have another technique! What I do is allow my hair to air dry, then spritz with heat protectant and a little bit of water. Then, I twist it up into small foam twist rollers. After the rollers are in, I blow dry each roll for a few seconds each, then leave everything for about thirty minutes. After that, I take the rollers out and brush everything through!
I have natural spiral curls; I think I could probably do this before a wash day, but I’d be nervous about ripping a brush through my hair and causing breakage. I think I’ll definitely be on the safe side and detangle with my fingers and a leave-in first.
Your hair is GORGEOUS and I LOVE your makeup. I subscribed. I'm gonna watch your hair care vid but can you make a vid about your simple makeup like the one in this vid? It's so classy
Hi! First, thank you so much for this tutorial! It's so hard to find 40's tutorial for long hair. Second, could you please say to me how is named the tipe of brush you used?
Thank God! You have full bangs! I got bangs added a few months ago and while they work when I can't be bothered putting my rollers in, I end up looking ridiculous when I try curling the bangs. I think I messed up because I treated my bangs as a separate thing (if that makes sense) and did the stupid thing of putting the bangs into a roller? BAD IDEA!!!! whereas you seem to ignore them? and just add them into a side parting. I'm hoping this method will help me! Thanks!
love this look on you its very pretty I love 40s hairstyles and fashion .I notice that you mention the length of your hair a lot in this video ,depending on what part of the 1940's era you are referring long hair was actually considered very desirable and quite appropriate I believe it was the earlier half but this looks very convincing thanks for sharing this very helpful video
You are a life saver; if I brush out my curls and they go all frizzy I think I messed it up and tend to start over- I didn't actually realize it should be frizzy before it gets gorgeous :D I don't have a lot of hair, though, so I only hope this look will suit me as well as it does you :). Nieuwe subscriber heb je! Groetjes uit België ;)
So I have this party, and we have to dress up like in the 1940's. I want to try this hairstyles, but I am wondering... Can I skip using the setting lotion, or is that a must for this?
Itlooks so great I’ve looked for tutorials and non of them helped but yours has and made it easy especially because I have long hair and refuse to cut it lol
This is unbelievably beautiful, why is this not in style!?! I'm going to try it! Too bad none of my clothes are classy enough to pair with it.
It's not in style because it takes a long time to do plus fashions change
Same haha i have jogging pants and sneakers 😀
@Will Ganness it takes a special kind of talent being able to connect everything to race.
The beauty of today is that we can choose our own style 😁 do it no matter how long it takes and see if it's you! I'm 31 and I'm always changing my hair 💇
Will Ganness a hairstyle has nothing to do with being a racist lmao
i have to say, you have a face that can pull off any era. That so cool!
I agree! No matter how many times I watch this video, this thought always pops up

Debbie Novotny
Thank you so much! I love this hairstyle but I am in a constant battle with frizz.
Rita Hayworth was one of the few hollywood stars who had long curls so your hair is acurate despite the length. Very nice!
And Veronica Lake ❤️
You look like Agent Carter from Captain America!! I definitely want to this look.
emily the procrastination queen It's true, she looks like Peggy
emily the procrastination queen I think her hair does, but her face looks more like Natalie.
She does!!
Emily Shewan omg yes
Omg yes!!

That's the only way a comb will stay in my hair.
I thought this was the only way a comb would stay in! Guess the tuck isn’t necessary, but I love the look it gives the hair.
Yessss more 1940's hair please!!!!!
oh my gosh going from brushing them out and they look all frizzy to the end is magic O_O
+momoyome I KNOW RIGHT?!
momoyome I had my aunt do crazy curls on me a while back , and she accidentally brushed them into a frizzy mess. I can't believe I was only a few more brush strokes away from this! I'm kicking myself
I love the old music you always have in the background
Thank you for the tutorial! I graduate high school in may and I’m having a late 1940s early 1950s themed party and I’m so exited to start dressing in the vintage style!

Finally! A tutorial that says it's for long hair...and actually IS long hair! Definitely want to try this
I have pictures of my great grandmother with her hair styled like this! Thanks for the "cheat" tutorial using a curling iron!
EmDarcy how did it come out with the curling iron?
Thank you for making this. I pincurl my hair a lot, but since I have bangs and long hair, I have never been able to make it look "authentic". I will give this a try soon.
According to my old coametoligy books, U did curl ur hair in the correct dirrection according to how they would curl in that era...And ur hair turned out lovely.
what a genius idea having the mirror behind you! love this look!
This look is so feminine and sophisticated. I love the make up also
Perfect. My daughter has mid-back length hair and is playing the part of an American tourist in the 1940's. I'm going to work on perfecting this for the production in December. Thanks for the tutorial

i just followed it with a curling wand and i am waiting for 15 minutes right now and i can't wait for the brush out!
Gonna try this for prom!! I love vintage hairstyles
You are just darling and a great teacher! I have always believed in respecting history AND adding to it with what has made life easier :)
I wonder whether that'll work on my hip-length hair... Love the look :)
same.. can't even curl properly..too long😰
I think that the longer the smaller the sections you take to curl, I also have longer hair than her, so I hope that works
Teresa if it works please let us know the results I have just passed hip length very thick hair and will be doing an Anzac concert. would like to look authentic.
i wonder if there are *any* 1940's hairstyles that are for long hair because I'm so sad that I can't do this
yup yup guys if you can find something please tell me (bc I might have to cut my tbl hair to do vintage hairstyles :((( )
Gorgeous! This is your style. You definitely curled it exactly the correct way.
So cute! I know it's not a current trend, but I think this hairstyle would look really pretty with a modern casual look. Kinda like throwing on a blazer over your jeans and t-shirt.
My school is doing Arsenic and Old lace as a play and I have been looking for a tutorial like this for ever. This is so helpful ty
It's sooo pretty!!! Especially the back where the ends curl in. Great job!
That´s so pretty! And it´s good to finally know how they got that look instead of guessing ´well probably a lot of curling´ :P
BEAUTIFUL!! YOU'VE MADE IT LOOK EASY...I MUST PRACTICE BEFORE OUR FORTY-FIRST WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CRUISE! (2024) YEAH...WE'RE NEVER TOO OLD TO TRY! GLAMOROUS IS 'IN'
i have a drama exam on wednesday and this is the perfect hairstyle for my character... thank you so much!!

You explained all the details in such a way that you made it look effortless. I love the way your hair turned out. It's a great deal of work when transforming your long hair to the twenties look, but it turned out beautifully on you.
Bravo!!! So flattering on you!!! How did those women find the time to do this??
Yes finally thin hair tutorial 🥺😭 thank u for sharing
I holded my breath as you were applying the hairspray XD
where is her accent from? Wow...these are great. BUT you have really gorgeous hair that can suit any style. Styled or not, ITS always great. You don't have problem hair like 99% of people.

i have same amout as hair only thicker so this should be beautiful
I have long hair down to my waist but I really want to get into more vintage styles but everyone seems to have had short hair!
Lily Hutchinson in the Victorian era women would grow out their hair super long. So maybe you can try styles from that time, I think they would work really well!
I believe you could possibly try some updos... Maybe looking for scarf hairstyles might be a good option for you?
Go 70's

New subscriber here, I love the glamorous hairstyles!
I too have long hair, and I really enjoy trying different styles through the decades! 💖

I was just looking at 40's pin curl brush outs last night!
This look is amazing! I'm going to try it (I have long hair and I usually can't achieve it!) 💕💕
I prefer the overnight curls, but it looks like this works for you. Awesome job!!!
I have natural spiral curls; I think I could probably do this before a wash day, but I’d be nervous about ripping a brush through my hair and causing breakage. I think I’ll definitely be on the safe side and detangle with my fingers and a leave-in first.
I wish this was back in style and I wish I could pull this off. My hair is too thick and long tho.
Nibbling Nils Saaame. My hair is so thick and long (and I have bangs), but I might try this some time just to see how it turns out!
Absolutely gorgeous! Great tutorial!
Awesome tutorial
Your hair is GORGEOUS and I LOVE your makeup. I subscribed. I'm gonna watch your hair care vid but can you make a vid about your simple makeup like the one in this vid? It's so classy
That's beautiful. What's your take on men's 40s hairstyle, do you prefer men to have short back and sides?
you are so pretty and simple i love that, such an inspiration 😊
You look gorgeous with this hairstyle!
you’re adorable with bangs omg
So gorgeous! Reminds of Lauren Bacall and Katherine Hepburn! :)
Kate Hepburn in The Philadelphia Story.
Wat een mooie haarstijl! Je hebt me geinspireerd om eindelijk dan een haarkruller te kopen en dit te proberen. Ga zo door Loepsie
Hi! First, thank you so much for this tutorial! It's so hard to find 40's tutorial for long hair.
Second, could you please say to me how is named the tipe of brush you used?
It's a boar bristle brush. Any denser brush would work though, or just your regular brush and a bit more time :)
This style is beautiful! 💕
You nailed this look. I love it!

Whats the name/brand of the heat-activated setting spray? Thanks!
