Perhaps, instead of using diluted paints to colour the tufts, you could cut long sections of twine and immerse them in separate pots, each containing food colouring or ink. Different browns, greens, reds, etc. Then, once it has dried, make the tufts by snipping off shorter lengths of pre-stained string. Might reduce clumping of the fibres.
The wash and wipe technique you showed here produced a great blend of colors, and some surprisingly smooth transitions. Nice work! If you plan to keep using twine as your main tuft fiber, I'd recommend one of the cat combs with a single-line of metal tines/bristles. These combs make separating out strands of twine much faster. This method does seem to produce a lot of static electricity, so be careful if you are opening doors or defusing explosives right after making tufts.I've heard that running the twine through the dryer with a dryer sheet might reduce the amount of combing static, but I can't confirm that.
Sencillo pero muy efectivo, lo haré en mi próximo diorama y lo subiré a mi canal. Gracias por tus vídeos. Simple but very effective, I'll do it in my next diorama and upload it to my channel. Thank you for your videos.
Very nice stuff! Another idea for tall grass is to use trimmed and painted fur for fields and large patches. Red Beard Baron has some good videos about it--he uses a lot of the same painting techniques as you.
poorhammer tufts :) Good one. I made mine on baking paper with PVA glue instead of hot glue. PVA dries clear, so no stress about blobs of glue. And of couse no burned fingers from poking the hot glue
This is really good! Once again, you serve us some quick and inexpensive ideas that make terrain building more accessible to every budget and skill level. No 3d printer, no product bought online, no weird machinery and no BS. Keep it up, Lucas!

All shall pass... Plague passed. Pox passed. This pandemic also pass. Just stay safe - far from other humans and at time it shall fade into memories. So Apocalypse it is? No. It's just another trouble.
Your right this is nothing to worry about too much. The media just made a way too big deal about all of this, perhaps as a scapegoat for something else 🤔
Still there are dangers of being carrier of the disease to older people and to get nasty post disease troubles with lungs. So better don't visit crowded places.
This is a great technique. I used sisal twine, since I already had it. I had trouble getting the hardened glue off my mat - so I used parchment paper as a base for the hot glue. It worked and the glued tuft came off the parchment paper easily when dry.
I have tons of hemp rope just sitting there collecting dust. Now thanx 2 U, I can put it to use. It all looks great man. Still waiting on that Menzoberranzen challenge
Just discovered your channel 2 days ago and you're brilliant! I, too, am on a budget for gaming. Can you do a "How to do water effects cheaply" video in the future? Thanks for all of the hard work you do to make our gaming more interesting!
I just came across this channel. A lot of great stuff here. For the tufts, I'm going to try a wire brush to see if it breaks apart the fibers easily and save me a lot of time.
I really like the idea, and plan to use the twine tufts, but I believe you could glue the strands first then just separate it out as normal. This may make it less of an issue with the glue showing.
Try soaking the hemp in wash and dry it before you cut it into pieces. It's probably easier to add color while it is still braided than after you disassemble it.
Hello! I have been following your channel for some time now and would like to congratulate you on your beautiful work. Especially when you make miniature works of art with simple and inexpensive products. This is fantastic for me. I am also a miniature painter, RPG and BoardGames !!!! Congratulations and keep it up! I also have a channel (simple but lovingly made) on youtube!
Could shorter cuts of hemprope be used to make more traditionally sized tufts. Regardless I love these as giant bushes they super fun and I feel like you could make tumbleweeds with this method
Seems like it's more cost effective to make the grass tufts than pay for someone else to make and ship them! Also that earth elemental is amazing. I need one :x
Nice video! I wonder if this method could be used to cover large areas or whole terrain boards. I could also see a method similar to how a sewing machine would work. And then cutting the hemp after everything is in place.
The sewing method sounds interesting. And for larger boards, this would certainly work (as I did on the stone hill). For better quality, the hot glue could also be covered with earth textures, or then use PVA glue instead.
Your own cat or dog (if you have these pets) replace their fur each spring and autumn, so you can trim some their fur with no harm to them. Even make them s bit cleaner for your room in procces and give them stylish looking. In my country in XIX century were been popular joke that painter has a bald cat (because he trim his fur for brushes)
I run a game for my best friends' kids, ages 10 through 12. "Exceptionally ok" is the exact level of skill I need.
"Be brave." You are the Bob Ross of terrain making. I love you willingness to explore new things.
Clinton M Can we please have a moratorium on all the Bob Ross comparisons?

This is the perfect method!
0:09 gets me everytime. Love the humor you put on videos
Wallet so barren it produces sand.
"The best method is to use *violence* "
I'm running games for a group of young adults and appreciate the inspirations for affordable cardboard, twine, glue, and spice cabinet building!
The wash and wipe technique you showed here produced a great blend of colors, and some surprisingly smooth transitions. Nice work!

This is a really great idea, I also like that you aren't asking for my money all the time like some other crafting channels.
You are, hands down, the funniest crafter on RUclips. I love it.

"Be brave" and lets make it "exceptionally okay" are the best mantras for crafting things for your TT-RPG and/or -Wargame. Thank you very much sir!

OUTSTANDING! I’m using them on my lizardmen bases
You can use the fine end of a plastic hair comb to quickly separate the twine ends.

i don't know why but this video is really calming for some reason. Awesome video btw!

Nice! I swear I've heard your voice in Skyrim ..lol

As a new broke DM your videos are basically gospel for my terrain building
Also, a fine needle pet combing brush with the very tiny sharp needle like metal pins would do the job well i think.

love how you colour your tufts... Ive been making grass like this for ages and colouring them with permanent markers I will try your way.

A brilliant video, as usual. Well done mate. 👍😁
You could use the fur for a building with thatched roof. Simply cover all of the fur with very heavy diluted mod podge.
Very ok!
Man, I am watching other terrain creators, but I am missing you! I hope you are doing well with your new endeavors.
Thanks for the tutorial. I'll be making some grass of my own now.
These are really great; simple and effective.
That's badass!! I jus subscribed, looking forward to binge watching your videos lol
Very cool, tried it & was tedious, but i made some. Cool idea.
Could use a hair brush for separating the fibers.
Exeptionally ok is what I always strive for when making my stuff xD
Could try using a comb to separate the strands!

Awesome dude. I love this channel
you are a saviour
Maybe try brushing them with a toothbruch to improve seperation?

You would make great ASMR videos ! Thanks for making me fall asleep
So how do you get red ones?
Very nice. Thank you
Great work. Thanks for the tip :)
use superglue to glue the fur
Hmm i dont have any fur, BUT there is a cat near my house.
Sorry for asking but what foam do you use? I ask because my hearing sucks and I dont know if its xps or xpf
Xps foam
Fun vid
Put hot glue on baking paper, it won't stick and you don't need to scrape the tufts off the mat.
Muy bueno sos un genio 🇦🇷
A drop of rubbing alcohol will release the hot glue from your cutting mat
Please, everyone, be safe with this crazy stuff going around and take care of yourself and your loved ones.
DUDE. FUR?! How would you feel if people used your skin for crafts?

I'm afraid to ask about the powder in your wallet. No wonder that you are broke, drugs are kinda expensive.
No worries, that is dust from my vacuum cleaner just to get that dumb shot :D
