6:53 I actually just learned, that’s probably the safer ice to walk on. The clarity means it’s thick like Solid Glass, while whiter or foggy ice is more brittle because of the each individual crystals not being connected and solidifying

4:07 I actually know this house. I don’t remember the name of it, but it’s in Maryland. The backstory as to why there is a random house in the water is that there used to be this whole island in the Chesapeake with a small town on it. As the water rose, it slowly consumed the island and took every house with it, except that one. I don’t know if it is still standing today, but, if it is it’s probably just a collapsed roof.

Personally don’t have thalassophobia, but I recently started a role-play with some friends and decided to make him have it. It’s Percy Jackson themed and he’s the son of Hephaestus (god of blacksmithing and fire) so making him be afraid of water makes sense. These thalassophobia videos you make have really helped me get a better understanding of how people like you react and how I should have him react. So thank you!
    Also, love your vids

I can trace where my thalassophobia must have began with when my family got taken out onto the boat of my dad's friend out into the Gulf of Mexico. It was going to be a day trip of fishing, swimming and fun, and the first time I was out on the water.
Little things kept happening all day, such as us catching a baby hammerhead shark which let my 4-5 year old brain know these were shark infested waters, and being that young, I had sharks as something I was majorly scared of. Because it's always things like sharks and quicksand and whirlpools that we all are convinced are bigger problems than we are thanks to cartoons and movies.
Next, while swimming, both of my parents got horribly stung by jellyfish. They'd swam right into a group of them. That was the first time I saw my parents in excruciating pain, both of them. I now knew even more so that the water was dangerous and I didn't want to be anywhere in it.
The next thing to happen was I fell in the water. I'd been not listening to my dad about not sitting on the side of the boat, and that came to bite me when I slid off and head first into the water. Upside down and staring into this endless blue for what couldn't have even been more than a second with how fast by dad snatched me back up, but it was enough. I kept myself tucked into a corner of the boat and didn't move.
And then, after all that, about the time we were going to head back to shore, the boat's engine stopped working. We couldn't move. I don't know what my dad's friend decides to finally call the coastguard, but we were out there for hours. So long it started to get dark. And then got pitch black. In a boat without its lights.
You couldn't hardly tell the sky from the water. We were just suspended in this eternal back void. And there I was, sitting in that black void I knew to be filled with sharks and jellyfish that had hurt my parents and was so endless.
And we started to hear this splashing. Far away at fiesta just one big splash. And it kept getting nearer. Maybe a minute would pass and we'd hear it again, closer now. By this point, no one was talking, and we were sitting in silence, only broken up by this large splash, getting closer still. Trying to see what it was would be useless - you looked out and saw nothing. But you heard it.
The last splash we heard couldn't have been more than 10 feet from the boat, and even with my overactive imagination at the time, I couldn't have imagined what it was.
And it was then that, finally, the coastguard has arrived. I don't know if I should have seen it's lights coming before then. I don't remember them coming upon us or seeing them from a distance. All I can remember is that splashing, and suddenly they were there. And we were safe.
These days, I suffer from intense thalassophobia. Specifically, I'm afraid of deep dark water. I won't even get into a pool if it's in the shade. The thought makes me feel sick and dizzy and like my heart is in my throat. And I can trace it back to this incident in my childhood. An incident I'll bring up with my mother when I ask if she remembers the splashing too or if that was something I'd imagined. But she heard it too. It's never left me.
And what's so odd is that my thalassophobia didn't manifest in my childhood - I was fine swimming even after that. It's only been in my adult years that this fear has began. It's like I couldn't fully process that situation until now.

Then a mate gave me his snorkel mask to have a look under water. Just looking straight down wasn't too bad. Then I looked at the underside of the ship and followed it down until I saw the keel. With that point of reference, looking down into the abyss. It suddenly became a little more daunting, bearing in mind I serve on a destroyer, which is a pretty big ship. My mates and I passed the mask around a little bit, then not long after all of us felt like we'd had enough swimming for the day 😅

As for the plane on 14:00, you can't use any part of it after that, because most of it's parts are either damaged from impact (even smallest crack can become a reson of a catastrophe, since every part of plane is under constant pressure all the time)
But mostly because metal parts probably started coroding from water, which is obviously very bad

I dont know whether I really have thalassophobia since I still enjoy swimming at the beaches. But one thing for sure, I hate it if I ever be in the situation where I floating in the middle of the ocean and the sky looks like this 1:14, and to make it worse, it starts raining and thunderstorms start to hit the water. Also, I hate the idea of being lost in the middle of the ocean in pitch black night.
Oh not to mention that I sometimes got some dreams (or maybe can be considered as nightmares) where I fall into the rivers/lakes

7:48 saying you've never seen one of these before made me jealous. In Australia we see these types of jellyfish so often. I've had one get wrapped around my leg. Not pleasant.

The video at 11:30 reminds me of the short film, Curve. It's a super freaky film about a girl stuck on a slope like that thing.

Whenever I go scuba diving in the middle of the ocean I feel a little spooked. I think everyone naturally has this to some degree. But for most people probably disappears with repitition.

I was stuck on mess duty on a ship in the South China Sea with 3.5 miles of water underneath and a category 3 typhoon barrelling towards us. Inside the naval ship, there's no windows. The waves were so huge that when the ship was going down one it felt like the ship had gone underwater and kept going. I lost my stomach contents a few times on that one.

The eeriest thing about Lake Erie is how gross and polluted it is. Even our lake monster has hepatitis.

I love, underwater mines, that creepily hover in the middle of the water held by old chains coming up from the depths of the unknown.

I feel like I have thalassophobia, I have to cover my eyes when I see maybe a super deep dark hole or cliff in the middle of the ocean, I also get scared when I see big sunken objects like ships or maybe weird statues. And animals in the ocean, sharks are fine but whales, despite how much I like whales(not my favourite animal, not even close) they can actually scare me even though I don’t have the fear of *huge* objects but I still hate how big they are. I especially hate it when people make it so it seems like a *real* video with a huge weird alien fish rising from the depths of the ocean, even though it’s not real and was either made CGI or everything is just 3D animated. And despite *ALL* of this I *LOVE* Subnautica, by far one of my favourite games of all time.

Greg, thank you for letting me know that I have megalohydrothalassophobia. I didnt know that until I started watching your videos. I started watching your videos and only certain clips get me. Primarily when there is something large in the water. Like a cliff face, submarine, whale, or oil rig. especially when the video is above water and then submerges... I want to die.. I hate it lol

Hey Greg here's a little of sickening perspective for a comparison the ISS is only 253 or so miles over our heads so the 1000 mile oceans is a MASSIVE HELL NAW.
