For the price, I think the Essence primer is worth the savings! Any difference in the two seemed so minimal that I doubt anyone would notice at all. And with the $17 savings, imagine all the other fun, great inexpensive products you could try! Great experiment! It's good to know that there are worthwhile products out there for those of us who are struggling in these grim economic times.
You're not crazy LOL! The left side with the Essence primer seemed to go on patchier, but the shadows definitely look more pigmented than the Rare Beauty side. Thanks for another great video doll ✌🏾🥰
I agree 100% with you, the essence seemed to take the pigmentation to another level and for the money that is truly impressive. I love the essence princess mascara, I rarely use anything else. I am finding that essence are a fantastic choice with some products. Will be grabbing some of that eyeshadow primer for myself 😁 thank you so much for the video Angels, great job as always ❤
I'm glad you did this because I wanted to get the Rare Beauty one, but I'm going to try the Essence one first because the shadow does look a little better on that side
Yea the essence side is definitely more pigmented , surprising to me I've been using rare beauty eye shadow primer for awhile now . I think I wanna try the other one for sure 🤔
I can see the difference too. Yes I agree with you ☺️ Yes I See The Difference.. I haven't tried them . I use elf eye primer which i love. Maybe in the future I would try the 4.00 one. Thank You For Sharing. ❤😊
Hi ! Thank you for comparing these two eyeshadow primers. The presence of oil in the Essence primer explains why the shade looks more intense - however, the presence of oil increases the likelihood of creasing (on someone who has oily lids). I have semi-oily and hooded lids and my favorite primer is the ABH - the bone tint lightens my lids to create an even canvas, and I get no creasing after 12 hours. I am most likely to try the Rare Beauty primer.
Thanks for the insight! I remember having the ABH primer and the packaging being so messy! Like it would always leak out of the packaging. Do you have that issue at all?
I’ve been sticking to the fenty primer bc it has an almost firming effect on my mature eyelids. I just have to remember to relax my kids as it dries. I wonder if the rare beauty primer does the same. As far as these 2 I like the fact that the rare beauty leans cool. I have fair olive toned skin and tamping down the warmth helps. I wonder if the rare beauty one would make cool toned eyeshadow more vibrant.
Thanks for comparing. ❤ Excited to see more head to head primer comparisons. My eyeshadow fades no matter which primer I use. I have used Milani, Rare, and Colorpop. I’ve found that eyeshadow formula makes the biggest difference for me. I think my eyelids run on the oily side.
Sigma's primer works well for me and I have oily lids. I did like the Milani primer too. It does go off at the year mark though. I did like the look better from further away on the Rare side. I do like the shimmer better on the Essense side.
Very interesting comparison! I have oily lids and deepset eyes, and the UD Primer Potion original works best for me. I tried and tried the Rare Beauty eye primer, and I could not get it to work for me. UD is pricey, but I only buy it on sale.
I do hope the Essence primer is available in Europe. Essence had a different eyeshadow primer that they discontinued a long time ago and it was the best one I ever used. You did have to set is with a powder or skin toned eyeshadow to blend the colors better. But it preformed way better than any high end primer. Can't wait to get my hand on this Essence one!!
Lol. No you’re not crazy! I noticed the Rare Beauty side does look cooler. My eyes have been watering like crazy! It’s driving me nuts! Thanks for this video! I’m using Laura M primer now and can’t wait to finish it. It’s just okay. Looking for an upgrade.
I currently own the Essence primer, and have tested it out a few times. I found that it did crease on my lid, but only in the fold area and left a bit of balding there. Below the crease and above the crease to brow bone it looked fine. What I liked was the consistency was different from other eye primers I've used. The fact it goes on like a serum/lotion and dries down clear is very nice ! However it just didn't perform as well as I had hoped it would. Never tried Rare Beauty yet but would like to ! Thank You for your video reviewing both primers !
@@angelaabright That’s exactly the one i bought and i’m so scared it won’t hold the opaque pigment in my eyes since my skin there is a bit darker, i wish to see the comparasions bc i’m deciding if i will get the Rare one.
The rare beauty primer gives a much smoother and nicely finished look... the Essence side looks splotchy, although more pigmented. Looking at each side, it feels like the essence side needs to be removed and redone to match the smooth eye. 🙂
I could see a difference in application right away. The Essence side is patchy on that dark shade on the outer corner where the Rare Beauty side is blended to perfection. The left eye looked creased as well.
Man, the difference between the two was REALLY noticeable. The Essence side looked way more pigmented and shimmery. Maybe setting it beforehand would make it less patchy. Seems like the better choice considering the price difference!
Thanks for this comparison. I love the Rare Beauty eye primer but wish I could find a drugstore eye primer that does a good job of covering up discoloration. If anyone knows of one, please let me know!
Concealer just makes shadow slip and slide around on my eyes. IMO, stay with pure eyelid primer. For pigmented, Profusion (WalMart) and Jason Wu (Target) both have good ones, though they both need to be set with either matte powdered shadow or translucent pressed powder. For just a matte finish without added pigment, try Milani. I also liked Wet N Wild's Photo Focus before they killed it then brought it back as MegaLast. You might try it under its new name - it's at the top of my list once I use up one of the ones I'm working with now.
I haven’t tried either one but your not crazy the essence side more vibrant as for the rare beauty seems more matte even though they both held up pretty good by the end id definitely have to stick with the essence since that’s right in my budget
I have oily eyelids, and unfortunately, the Essence primer doesn't work for me. I like the Ulta brand eyeshadow primer. But, I agree, the Essence primer does a good job bringing out the colors.
Ooh I haven’t tried the NARS one. Do you have oily eyelids? I remember the UD tinted being a bit of a drier formula which might be best for you if you have oily eyelids
I just bought this eyeshadow primer and I'm curious. I use luminess airbrush foundation and primer, and I'm just curious if I should use the foundation primer and foundation first or if I should do my eyes first? I stopped wearing makeup for a while, and I'm starting again, and I'm kind of clueless about what I'm going.
I don’t use a lash primer! I have used the urban decay one before and I don’t let it dry completely before putting mascara on top. Usually just one coat of primer is good
I have oily lids and used the essence one a lot. It‘s good for the price but on hot days it still creases and my eyelids still get very oily. I want to try tha anastasia beverly hills one when i finished the essence one. Another thing i don‘t like about the essence one is, that it doesn‘t have any pigment.
They both look beautiful in different ways. The Essence is richer looking but has some skipping??? to it. Wonder if you set that eye with powder first if the outcome would be similar to the more expensive primer.
What eye primer wold you recommend for oily hooded eyes? I really struggle with eye primers. Ive tried urban decay, too faced and a concealer instead but a few hours later, lots of creases and i get a baldy patch in my outer corners 🤬
If you like one with great coverage that is also very fair and cool toned, the ABH primer is the best primer for when my lids are super oily or the summer. But I want to try the Rare Beauty for the winter when my skin is both oily and dehydrated
Hi. My face and lid is oily. I got the rare beauty eyeshadow primer and my eyeshadow didn’t last. I even added translucent powder and my lid got so oily. I don’t recommend this primer to anyone with oily lid. My mom have dryer skin and when I applied the primer, she said that she felt her lid itch.
I am currently using the Rare Beauty. Love it for the slight tint but as someone with oily lids it doesn’t do as well as others for creasing. I agree with comments here that the Essence eye looked more splotchy but I experience that same problem with Rare Beauty! So far my fav primer of all I have tried is Urban Decay. What about yall?
The Rare Beauty side looks smoother overall and darker because of double dipping the eyeshadow. The Essence side seems more intense and splotchy, but is it because the eyeshadow is not as blown out as the other side? Either way, you'd be hard-pressed not to want to save that $17.00 💜💜💜
rare beauty eye primer is good but natasha denonoa’s is even better. I use the light and swear it’s weightless, whereas the Rare Beauty is a little heavy.
WARNING on the ESSENCE. Don’t use it if you have sensitive eyes. I bought it Because of this review!!!! Ended up in the ER WITH A SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION. My eyes blew up. . Which turned to an infection around my eyes. Omg. I thought it was another cream…..then I used the essence eye primer a second time 10 days later (because I didn’t realize that I had also used it that first time) and…..chemical burns. OMG. Back to the doc. I then read some of the reviews that others have reported severe reactions. It has citrus and sunflower oil. I can only assume that’s the cause I’d the irritation. Returned to Ulta. Wrote my own reviews. Horrifying. Who would have guessed. I love essence mascara but…..I’m sticking with tried and true and $$$$ primers

The Essence primer does make the colors pop...
But for $4 I think it does a good job 👍
