  • @MFEGoingDeep this video is the highlights of an action packed half hour or so that I found myself surrounded by a “wolf pack” of hungry togue searching around the bottom for smelts, sculpins or whatever it is they were feeding on. With September here and cooler nights and mornings the fish have the feed bag on and are preparing themselves for spawning time. They seem to be coming up from the deep and holding on some of these sandy flat areas that come up to around 35’ or so. I’ve noticed the water quickly becomes alot warmer when getting any more shallow and I’m not finding many lakers above that depth yet. They seem to be riding the edge of the cool water temps they prefer. Any disturbance on the bottom, even by my drone, seems to be drawing in hungry lake trout like a dinner bell as I’ve seen several come up to investigate and see if there’s a quick meal available. Mostly been seeing a solitary fish here and there but this was a bigger group that I was able to glide around with and observe as they were on the hunt as the name of the video suggests. I’m really looking forward to seeing them up close in the shallows for spawning time!

Mesmerizing to watch the fish. Some of them seemed pretty big. Thanks

In all the filming you have done in Maine, have you seen any sign of the Lampray eel or the scars on the larger fish?? ( lake trout and wallye especially ) , Vermonts lake Champlaine and Lake Memphremagog are especially infected, and they have just about wiped out the Lake trout and a LOT of the larger fish!

I have not encountered any lamprey eels yet, they’re around though. Lots of them come up through the Penobscot River and over the fish elevator there. Some of the Atlantic Salmon I videod back at the end of July a few of those fish had old marks on them that had healed. I’m going to try and time it for this coming spring when they’re migrating up through again to see if I can get some footage of them.
