    I'm 62. Have owned many GTI's , Scirocco R, Audi TTRS, Tiguan 4Motion R-Line, RS3 and an M2. The Kona N is the most fun I have had in a decade! Great spec, great tech, no optional extras to tick - seems like a great deal to me. And if you think N mode and NGS is a gimmick - take it to a track :)

    • @inCARnationAustralia
      @inCARnationAustralia  2 года назад +2

      Yes our colleague John Boston demonstrated it was just as quick on the track as an i30N and i20N. Which is amazing. N mode is real, sure. I just felt the extra couple of kW for "Grin Shift" was a bit cheesy. Like the aforementioned siblings, it is a fantastic car.

    Yah I just bought 1 in the UK, I think it's fun and practical, we dont have kids so rear seat space not an issue. Great video guys, best of luck with your channel.

    You have to be in N mode before the changing in the settings for suspension steering etc will take place. I can 100% tell you that you can feel the difference between the suspension settings even on a new road.

    • @inCARnationAustralia
      @inCARnationAustralia  2 года назад

      Yes, changes done in N Custom1 mode. Changing individual settings while in Eco, Normal or Sport has no effect. Maybe it does in "N" mode, but definitiely in "N - Custom1" (i.e. right blue button, twice)

  • @schleiftnix2196
    @schleiftnix2196 Год назад +1

    Hello =)
    I ride the Kona N myself and if I'm not mistaken you were in sport mode trying to adjust the suspension. This can be seen from the graphic in the speedometer display. The normal modes are shown with two rings for speed and RPM. In N or N Costum mode you only see one ring. However, the adjustment is only available in Custom mode. In Sport mode, the suspension is set to Sport and cannot be changed there. In Normal mode, it is set to Normal. Your own settings are only accepted in N mode Custom 1 or 2. This is probably why no difference was noticed.

    Mazda did the same thing with AWD for the Mazda 3 MPS. They gave the sedan AWD but the hot hatch was only FWD.

  • @dazzamac70
    @dazzamac70 2 года назад +4

    I think that the reason why they didn't do the Kona N in AWD as it would add additional weight to the car which in turn would make it slower than the i30N. And as mentioned, for a road/track car, you don't actually need AWD with the E-Diff!!😉

    • @inCARnationAustralia
      @inCARnationAustralia  2 года назад

      Yes an AWD would be heavier and probably slower in most conditions, including track. But as the car has the "snow, mud, sand" options that the i30N doesn't have, and thus some off-road pretentions, it would be a good way to differentiate it from the i30N hatch and coupe. Currently the question one asks about the Kona is "there's no particular reason why not to just buy a i30N instead"

    When you guys commented that it was quieter and the suspension didn't feel different. You didn't have it in N mode. The changes you're making on the settings aren't applying. You're in sport mode. 🤷‍♂️

      Hi Jacob
      I had the car for 5 days before shooting this segment with Mark and tried all combinations in Custom1 mode on a variety of roads. (We shot for 3 hours to make the 20 minute video so you're not seeing everything). I found the 3 suspensions settings were all pretty similar - all fairly firm, and changing them didn't make a different to road noise. Road surface was by far the biggest factor in road noise. The P-Zero HNs were quiet on a smooth surface but many roads, including major intercity highways, were noisier than I expected - in any combination of settings. e.g. the Hume Highway was noisy, most of the Great Western highway was not. Also there was more wind noise at 110km/h than you might find on some other cars. Interestingly I saw more boost on the dash on this car (showing 400 Nm) than on the i30N we previously tested.

    Between the i20n and the Kona N, which did you find the most enjoyable to drive, and if you had to choose between the two, which would you have in your own garage?

    • @inCARnationAustralia
      @inCARnationAustralia  2 года назад

      For me (Stu) the i20N over the Kona. Playful little thing it was. The Kona styling didn't do it for me, even though the outright performance was better. But having said that, I actually most prefer the new i30N DCT swept-back sedan.
