Great video again, Johan. I still hate myself that I once sold my old, small Bass 12 combo I had from 1986 to 2001. I used it for guitar as a pedal platform. It was one of the rather rare gold panel ones. Later ones usually had the black front panel. Keep up the good work, my friend!

Thanks for all the hard work capturing all these amps on video and seeing the interesting evolution, Johan rules! take care my friend

Love hearing some beats, man! They provide context for the amazing jams you come up with. These amps and guitars were meant to be played with other instruments - especially drums and bass! Plus, you are really good on those instruments as well!

Hey Johan, just an FYI- They also made the JTM60 in a 1x12 config. I had one BITD, until ( like most of them ) the tube heat eventually fried the board. Great compilation- thanks.
I have a JCM600 in 1x12 config (JCM601) from 1997. This is basically identical to the JTM60, but had the added vent to the top which really helps the heat get away. It just couldn't shake off the reputation of the JTM60 for overheating, which is a real shame, because it is such a flexible amp: beautiful cleans, great gain, both series and parallel effects loops, independent reverb control for each channel, it really is a great amp. Good thing is you can still get them cheap, and work perfectly well as long as it is not jammed tight up against a wall, you need to let the back of the amp breathe! Still, it's not a patch on my 1979 JMP 2103 100W 2x12 combo, it is just a beast😁
I always preferred the jcm 600 head over most Marshall amps I played untill I found the snarly gain of the DSL 40 and then it was the best of both worlds ! The killer cleans and reverb with the vintage Plexi type gain from the clean channel of the jcm600 and the rest of the Marshall tones that I want I get from the DSL 40 ! The crazy part is that the DSL 40-12 inch is louder than the jcm600 head into a 412 cabinet 🤷🏻♀️ but it works out great that way.
What a fantastic library of Marshall tones! I own a '69 100w plexi super lead head, a '76 JMP MV 100w head and a '90 JCM900 MV 50w 2x12 combo. Would love a little JCM800 1x12 combo though...they sound killer on your video!
Wow, the sounds of the EL84 Marshalls is great. It seems you can control the distortion by less or more aggressive treatment on the strings. That's why I love the VOX amps. But these Marshalls sound different and they are great!!!! Did I hear the beginning of "Spirits in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum? ;-) I wondered how he got his guitar sound ever since....
Excellent video Johan, that was a great history on some of Marshall’s amps. And I have to say, Gibson + Marshall = Rock N Roll Heaven. You should get a sales job with Marshall, Johan you give great demonstrations of their products.
Thanks Johan for the Marshall combo series presentation. Marshall Haze (I owe the 15 watt head) it has 2 6V6 tubes too in the circuit, but I believe that the Haze combo might have el34 due to the output of 40 watt.
This is so cool! Great amps, and great playing. Which sounds best? No one, or all. This question is impossible to answer since they all sound great, but different.
Great vid man. Man, I just love humbuckers with Marshalls. I love the tone Johan and others get with single coils into Marshalls; it’s a classic combo for sure, but for my own stuff, I find humbuckers a bit too muddy for the vast majority of my amps (like my Ampeg V4 and superjets), whereas I find my teles and strats to not work well with my Marshalls (For my stuff anyway). It’s fun to have two completely separate rigs though. Gives a bit of separation between bands.
Once upon a time I had a 2187, the 2x12 combo version of the 1987. Belonged to the guy who taught me how to work on amps. It was his gigging amp back when, and apparently blew a couple(!) of G12M’s per night. He carried 8 spares at any given point, and would immediately send the blown speakers to be reconed the next week. When he got tired of this dance he installed a GZ34 rectifier to bring down the wattage a tad I miss that amp dearly and wish I never sold it… Hands down one of the best Marshall’s I’ve ever heard. With it having a GZ34 in it, I’ll instantly recognize it the instant it pops up for sale again, just hope the bank account is fat enough in that moment!!
I have a clone of an 18 watt BB head that I run into a 2x12 and that has become my new sound in the last few years. I keep it relatively clean and push it with either an SD-1 or a Rat.
Hi, Johan! Awesome video! Such so beautiful demonstration!😊 I realized that I have some black holes in my knowledge. I really enjoyed to hear and to see! What I was doing without your channel! Which is the best for classic plexi tones? In case I can never afford a head and cab amp.. I want to get the best most plexi sounding one. I got a JCM 2000 401 combo, and this is not a very good plexi amp type. Is there anything I can do to this one to make it more plexi tone?

@@JohanSegeborn your welcome man...I've steered several player's your way on these demo's Especially those who might not know the difference between vintage and new stock Amazing how good those 50's LP saddles we're compared to even CS stuff
Which one of these is the most classic Marshall plexi sounding? For someone that plays mostly a Stratocaster, and really likes the Hendrix type tones, which is the best combo, or top 2 or 3 choices to buy?
Man I loved the tone from that Popular. The only Marshall I was ever able to afford when I was a teenager was a Lead12 that I bought the year they came out. Was still a great amp though.
So many great sounds, hard to pick one that’s my favorite. The JCM-800’s of course sounded amazing, I found really liking the JCM-900, too. Never understood the bad rap they get. Slightly off topic, is there any footage of you and Simon playing together? I’d love to hear how your styles mesh.
Even people who say the jcm900 isn't a bad amp would be able to name a full 2 dozen marshals they'd rather own. The dual reverbs crank up well, but that's it. Not that inspiring when you're in the room, imho. He recorded them well in this video though. The SLX and mkiii are far superior than the dual reverbs and feel vastly different.
My JTM 60 had 3 - 10 inch speakers, unlike Johan's 1x15...A combo is nice, but I've stuck with heads and various cabs for over 45 years now. Combos have come and gone. In the late 70's, I had one of the solid state pancake 2098 100 watt heads. It wasn't bad, just different. A lot lighter than a Plexi! Now, If I could find a 4210 1x12 combo, I would snag it in a heartbeat...
I was just getting the Kleenex to wipe up after my eargasm, after having heard the '64 alnico and the g12m bluesbreakers, then you go and bust out that seventies artiste and that 4010, and my knees buckled again. Holy f☆☆k, those sound good!
One time I had to use the other band's guitar amp….I had never seen a Marshall combo so for some reason I assumed it was a solid-state piece of junk but it ended up being that same 1x12 JCM 800 that you play at 10:14. It totally ripped!!! I couldn't believe it…definitely packed a lot more horsepower than the hot rod deluxe I had been using hahaha
The Clarity and cut was insane while sounding very balanced at the same time. I wonder if they are 55HZ or 75HZ . Likely 55HZ . Could also be the G12H25s given the era .
You just can't beat a good combo. One of my favourites was the late 80s jcm 800 twin. Can never remember the number. I must admit the jvm 410 is a great modern example. The 20 watt origin is outstanding tone for peanuts. Just to add the downside is bloody back ache 😂😂
That was really Great!... I had no idea there were so many (!) I love that ringing strummed clean you did a couple of times with a Strat... Very sweet! Did Marshall ever deviate from ECC83's/12AX7's? Thanx Johan and keep 'em comin' (!) ...Cheerios
I think you meant different gain, and the answer is no. The only British amp that used a lower gain tube might have been HiWatt. There may have been some with 12AT7 in the phase inverter.
Can't beat a Les Paul and marshall combo. I love the sound of your black deluxe lp. Do you like the out of phase mod sound? I did it to mine and it's the position I play in most. I would rather have coil splits but I'm using Seymour Duncan antiquities pickups and they can't be split
I love the 1967 Model 1962 Bluesbreaker 2x12 G12M and 1969 model 1962 Bluesbreaker 2x12 combo with the G12H30s!! For the 70s, I love the JMP 2104, and the 80s, I love the 4010, 4210 (I own one), and 2554 jubilee!! And the 90s I think I will have to go with the 4501 and 6101!! They are all interesting and I enjoyed this video but the amps I mentioned are my favorite from this!
I keep hearing that JTM's are loose in the bottom end. Not from what I'm hearing. BTW how fond are you of the 1959X? I ordered a spec build from overseas.
@@JohanSegeborn You can borrow my Marshall Club & Country 100W 2X12 with the red speakers (Makenzie?) 4140 if you'd like to do a sound/video test/recording? I live in Lund Sweden.
This was great...in 1977 or 1978 I bought a new 2104...it was a 4 input 50 watt without a master volume and I believe it had Blackback 25's (maybe it had a different model number in that configuration, but it looked exactly like the one you have here)... unfortunately,it also came with 6550 power tubes at the request of the U.S. distributor at the time...no pedals back then...you just turned up to 7 or 8!
@@JohanSegeborn I believe the combo version model numbers were 2187 (NON-MV 1987 50W in same cab as 2104 combo) and a 2159 (1959 100W in same cab as a 2103 combo) if that helps.
Not sure if you know, but Neil Giraldo (Pat Benatar's guitarist and husband) has used Marshall 2104s pretty much since their introduction. Raves about them.
Have a 1959HW - 1974X - JCM800 2x12 50w 1985 - JCM900 4501. All are excellents, but I very like the JCM900 4501 have a vintage grain and modern gain (with the good tubes).

Thanks! Not both playing guitar actually. We should do that
The slx is a jcm900 but with no diods all tune preamp... is such a sick amp
4:13
Wow! That tone and that riff!
Thanks! Great to hear that
Yes there is a 1973 2x12 combo amp. A friend of mine has one. And it's a true "bury me with it" kind of amp.
Thanks!
Yeah JCM800 1x12 is the ultimate cab to me
That G12H BB was fantastic!
Cheers Darren!
JVM, imo, is the best all Marshall has made in decades. They're killer.
I think so too. Every guitar you plug in sounds great.
Holy crap, that JTM30 at 16:14 sounds fantastic!
The 1962 bluesbreaker with the G12H, the 2104 with the G12H, and the 4210 JCM800 with the G12M-70 for me!!
Thanks!
Great vid. I can recognize themes you're riffing off here and there, but what was that at 16:14 please (right before Iron Maidenesque thing)
That was really Great!... I had no idea there were so many (!)
I love that ringing strummed clean you did a couple of times
with a Strat... Very sweet! Did Marshall ever deviate from ECC83's/12AX7's?
Thanx Johan and keep 'em comin' (!) ...Cheerios
Thanks Jonny! I think all are ECC83 actually
I think you meant different gain, and the answer is no. The only British amp that used a lower gain tube might have been HiWatt. There may have been some with 12AT7 in the phase inverter.
Great video! I love my 1974x.
Thanks!
I have the same amp from 2004
You ever try to conncet with the plus external cabinet ?
Can't beat a Les Paul and marshall combo. I love the sound of your black deluxe lp. Do you like the out of phase mod sound? I did it to mine and it's the position I play in most. I would rather have coil splits but I'm using Seymour Duncan antiquities pickups and they can't be split
I like that electric piano like tone you get from out of phase humbuckers
I love the 1967 Model 1962 Bluesbreaker 2x12 G12M and 1969 model 1962 Bluesbreaker 2x12 combo with the G12H30s!! For the 70s, I love the JMP 2104, and the 80s, I love the 4010, 4210 (I own one), and 2554 jubilee!! And the 90s I think I will have to go with the 4501 and 6101!! They are all interesting and I enjoyed this video but the amps I mentioned are my favorite from this!
Dang they all sound nice! Some are a tad too bright but nothing a reduced treble knob can handle.
Thanks Bryan!
I keep hearing that JTM's are loose in the bottom end. Not from what I'm hearing. BTW how fond are you of the 1959X? I ordered a spec build from overseas.
Love your channel Johan 🤘 any irs of these amazing amps you review? If so I want them all.......
Thanks John, great to hear that! I’m working on that actually
@@JohanSegeborn awesome! I've clicked always on notifications so I don't miss out! 🤟🚜
I would love to see a demo of the marhsall club and country amps. Alex lifeson made them sound killer on moving pictures and exit stage left .
I’ll try to find I really!
Cool, I didn’t know there were combo versions of 1987 too in the late 70s
@@JohanSegeborn 2104
@@JohanSegeborn 2187,2100
@@JohanSegeborn I believe the combo version model numbers were 2187 (NON-MV 1987 50W in same cab as 2104 combo) and a 2159 (1959 100W in same cab as a 2103 combo) if that helps.
I love High Gain Marshall Sounds an I like the 6101 it´s one of the best Marshall ever build
Not sure if you know, but Neil Giraldo (Pat Benatar's guitarist and husband) has used Marshall 2104s pretty much since their introduction. Raves about them.
How do you get a hold of all the amazing amps for your videos?
What was that big Marshall combo in the let there be Rock movie
The Artiste gets a bad wrap but Neil Gerlado made very good use of those on the Pat Benetar and Rick Springfield albums. What a great tone he had!
The artist amp paired with the SG was very Fender like . Made the SG sound like Keith Richards vintage Tele tones .
Have a 1959HW - 1974X - JCM800 2x12 50w 1985 - JCM900 4501.
All are excellents, but I very like the JCM900 4501 have a vintage grain and modern gain (with the good tubes).
2104 is the best for me…. Thanks for share this video
Thanks!
@@JohanSegeborn what’s more, the first video i saw in your channel was that… and since that moment, I’m obsessed with it (jmp 2204 really, but it’s the same)
(My first miniplexi (sv20h) finally arrived and I confess that I’m really surprised… it’s amazing… you must to try it…)
The 70s solid state ano was killer. I wish they could make a solid state amp like that now .
Yeah beautiful warm tone
My jtm 30 caught fire in a rehearsal room while we where all playing. We all started looking around cause we could smell it . That was a bad day. Miami fl somewhere back in the 90s. Bought it from Ace music 441 north Miami.
The is a mod you can do on those to avoid overheating, check out my JCM600 video. Cheers
Johan... that Riff at 11:39 ❤❤❤
4:20 time stamp should be a song. That’s a bad ass riff dude.
Thanks man, great to hear that!
I have a DSL 15 with 6v6 output valves. The clean channel is very Fender-like.
Love the Artiste!
Yeah it’s got a really cool tone
Vore kul om du kunde göra en demo på Marshalls Studio 15.
Hey Johan, I have a 2103 100 watter, a 2150 Rock and Roll Baby, a Club and Country lead (and the bass version). I also have a 2100 Paul Weller combo from 1976. You are welcome to come over and do a joint video in my studio of those 'missing' amps from your round up. I also have 900s and a Vintage Modern. In total, including heads, I probably have 30 Marshall amps and around that many 4x12s. Come on over to sunny Lincoln, UK!
Yo Johan, recently I inquired about what kind of speakers would go well with the Peavey mace head and you said the eminence squarebacks. Ive only been able to locate 2, is there another speaker you would reccomend in place of the squarebacks? Is there a set of speakers that you think would pair well with the squarebacks?
The horse shoe Alnico eminence that Musicman uses could work fine too
I wasn’t going to play my guitar right now but now she’s calling me like a banshee in heat .
😉
Marshall DSL 15 HEAD unit has 6V6 tubes ! I believe a silver jubilee head also came with 6V6 tubes !
So basically Johan is a proper Marshall historian!
A glad amateur historian 😂🤘
I really miss the 4140 Club and Country...
;-)
Shame about the iphone recording of the 4104. Those and the early JCM800s are king of them all.
Nice video👍🏽
Like the head version, that 2104 is just perfect. Nothing it cannot do.
I own one, truer words my friend. Such a killer amp!
You should have included the little marshall Class 5 amp 😂 it actually sounds pretty good too lol
Yeah great amp indeed. We’ll include it in the contemporary combos video
it's rock at every amp.
I hope you can get your hands on a Vintage Modern 2266C.
Hi! I’m playing that one here: ruclips.net/video/v0wx_aakrq4/видео.html
Moreshall rules!
Yeah I see you use the correct Swedish phonetics too 🤣
My dad once told me to always listen from the Great.🤣
That Jubilee combo... great sound.
Thanks Josef!
I want to hang out at Johan's house! lol
Cheers Kevi! 🤘
Marshall 75 watt reverb,...(middle 1980's) transistor amp,... they called it "THE CAT",... 0ne 12 inch speaker,.... 150 watt celestion "Sidewinder",.... very load,... many time's out performing full size rig's........
How the hell do you find all these vintage amps???
We have a great guitar community in Sweden
It is strange but the 1976 Master Lead solid stateCombo has better Marshall like distortion than its counterparts.
JTM 30 / 60 = blown bridge rectifiers over and over.
Yeah I heard about the issues with those amps
