When demonstrating the 'explosion' problem it appeared as though the bottles were completely upside-down. Just a tip this usually happens because the ball is in the cap (due to gravity). Holding the bottle at a 45 degree angle should avoid this problem in most cases.

The clogging thing is fairly common with narrow-tip bottles. I often encounter it with Reaper's paints, for example (though I have no reference as to whether it's a bigger issue for speed paints than others). Very cool! I have mixed feelings on the reactivation going away. I do prefer my paints not to reactivate as a general rule as it can lead to unpredictable behavior.
But having said that, I do find myself using the reactivation properties on Speedpaint 1.0 all the time. I just used it last night when painting a Frosthaven mini. The mini is supposed to have glowing icy fists. So I zenithal white over a dark blue base coat. Then I hit the fists with Magic blue being quite careless in the application. Then after a little bit of dry time I used a damp brush to remove the Magic Blue off the raised parts of the ice fists. The final effect is pretty great and would've taken more steps to achieve with Contrast or (presumably) speedpaint 2.0 or a normal set of paints.
While I do like oils and have used them, they are messier and require more cleanup than Acrylics so I really don't want to have to get them out for something like this mini. In the end it wouldn't have saved me any time like the Speedpaint 1.0 did.

None of my colors inside the 2.0 mega set was clogged. Putting the bottle 90 degree upside is a bad idea with steel balls inside a dropper bottle. But it is not a fault of the Army Painter range. It happens with Vallejo and every other dropper bottle too. It is more a user error than a desing error.
The other pros and cons are valid in my opinion. Especially if you are used to blending the color together you have to do it right away as long as they are still wet (wet blending) like with normal acrylic paints. So if you know it you can work with it.

I know that at the minimum some amount of heresy, but i found it much easier to paint and not waste paint. you just worked around it. I'm not a master blender by any means. I just like being able to work and fix since I'm such a hack, and now i fear my paint production is going to slow down again. Clogged tips slows me down, fast drying paint slows me down. Speedpaint 1.0 really helped me to be more productive, i don't master paint one mini at a time. It actually made me MORE productive since i got out more models to line up and paint 1 color at once. Honestly sounds to me like I'm going to need to find all the 1.0 paints i can and hold on to them.

I've spent enough time in art studios and industrial environments that the smell of bleach is indistinguishable from fresh air at this point, but it definitely is something more reviewers should discuss more for those people who struggle. Second, those minis are really interesting. I have never heard of Deuslair before, and now am very stoked to check out the models. I love stuff that is a mix of traditional fantasy and sci-fi, which is why 40k is such a big staple on my tabletop. And third, I really wasn't sold on Speed Paints after I saw Pete the Wargamer's recent Daemon Primarch Leman Russ kitbash which he demonstrated the line with. I usually love his style, but his Leman Russ was the first Dornian Heresy model he has ever made that I didn't like at all. I fully assumed it was an issue with the paints and was ready to write off the line, but it seems more likely now that Speed Paints just don't work with his more unique style. As your style is far more like my own personal painting technique, I am much more confident about using the range myself, because these two turned out beautifully.

I’m quite curious about more fleshy tones in their range, Crusader Skin is a bit limited unless you put it on completly white base. It gets very bland and ashy when you try to use it over zenithal.

We agree. It was designed for being over a white base, long before the Lord Almighty Rob the Honest Wargamer invented Slap Chap ;) but, that’s also why we were eager to get more skin tones in the range for more options.

So the 1.0 version was best. Fast dry means no time for errors while painting.

I think the original speedpaint was better, I really liked the reactivation feature, you could do an easy highlight just by using a damp cotton bud to wipe off the highest points, it was also really easy yo lighten thd whole effect or even mix on thd model with a darker colour in areas, it reminded me of working with oil washes.

I can see 'speed paints' needing to dry FAST but yeah, along with the smell that extra fast drying time would be a turn off. Those bottles gotta go too. My guess is the drying accelerator is the culprit. I'd be curious to see if they'll cure in bottle like some older Citadel inks did.

I mean, it makes sense that "speed" paint should dry fast and not reactivate, but I'm sad to see the blending capabilities go. Maybe they could rebrand the original formula as some other line? In the meantime, I guess I'd better get more 1.0 medium because I have an idea that banks on the blending capabilities. :x

Dana, can we mix the SP 2.0 with SP medium or a little acrylic retarder to open up reactivation again? If it's just the drying time then I'd imagine we have potential workarounds?

Have you tried blending with isopropyl? I saw an interesting video where someone was comparing 3 different inks and to my surprise acrylic inks reactivated with isopropyl. I wonder if you could use this as a way to get your blending back...

Can you mix the 2.0 Speed Paint with the 1.0 Medium? Would that give you the best of both worlds with the blending and still allow you to use them unmixxed for the newwer qualities?

Well, clogging bottles and shorter dryig time goes in pair. New resin seems to be a culprit. Awesome job on the minis btw. Will You build a stock of speed paints 1.0 now? ;)

Not for nothing, but I have put all my citedel contrast paints in dropper bottles and the Scale75 instant colors come in dropper bottles…they to get clogged and I have to de-clogg them from time to time. I think it is just part of the paint…

damn, thats incredibly sad. I just got finished painting up a whole Nighthaunt army using the amazing wet blending capabilities of speedpaints+contrasts, and losing that is a real bummer. I wonder if having the two colors "live" and working very quickly over an area could achieve similar results, as I did mostly 'wet brush' blending when I did my ghouls - starting with the weaker tone, and dipping the brush into the stronger tone to start the blend on the brush as I added it to the model.
Maybe a modification of workflow can achieve similar things with these paints, as I have using that wet-brush method been able to achieve pretty decent blends using just citadel contrasts.

It is, the mixing balls exasperate it a bit. Which is why we recommend in our Best Practice video, to use a pins or cocktail stick to clear the nozzle if it feels stuck before squeezing too hard.

Aw crap. I was just thinking about getting some of those speed paints that can reactivate for a specific bulk troops project... Doing that now will probably leave me unable to match future pieces with what I'm working on. So I guess that's out the window.
