      Probability dictates that over a cycle of 100 spins, there will be WIN streaks and LOSS streaks. So when you are in the WIN streaks, you continue until the wind starts to change direction. Then you stop and walk. If you are in the LOSS streaks, then you reduce your bet by 1/3 until the wind starts to change direction, then you resume your normal bet size and after winning a 1% on WagerRoll, you stop n walk. This way you increase your chances of NOT-LOSING.

    Best way to stop any bad addiction is to replace it with good addition ( gym, cycling, running , any good hobby ) . This is more effective than just saying you're quitting any bad addiction. If you don't replace it with good addition sooner or later 100% you go back again.

    One night I lost $3000. Then I cashed out my credit card and lost another $2000. Told my girlfriend about it. And she said why didn’t you just stop, you knew you were on losing streak, why didn’t you just stop and cut your losses. I said I can’t, all I was thinking about was winning it all back. That’s the problem with gamblers like me. We can’t stop until we lost it all. Then I look back and damn, how did I f****** lose that much in one single night.

    I have been gambling for about 6 years now. I have weeks where I go everyday, and some weeks where I only go once. I usually will have at least 1,000 on me if I go in. I've had bad days, where I've lost 5,000 plus in that day. I've had great days, where I've been up 5,000 plus and have left on top of the world. I definitely have an addiction to it, which is strange as I am not addicted to much else in life. I can honestly say that I know i can't quit gambling. But I've made a deal with myself, and that is after I pay all bills and know everyone will be fed and taken care of until I get paid again, I can go gamble everything else away. I have a very good job and I get paid very well. It sucks to have such an addiction, but I am at least taking care of my family and myself before the inner beast comes out. I haven't always been this way either. I use to lose EVERYTHING, every time it was payday. But I levelled with myself and am doing better now.

      @@AArrad that's not really how it works. No matter which game you play (slots, roulette, etc.), the game always has an RTP (e.g. 96%). Each game round brings the game closer to its intended RTP. If you only played one single game for $/£/€ 1.00 and won 1000, the game operator didn't lose a single cent. They'll still have their 4% profit. Even if you won a million there, they wouldn't care because they'd still have the same 4% of what all the players put in. And you know well those are crazy amounts, people put in all the money they have in their life. Some casinos rip off players off their winnings by creating crazy T&C's that no one can fulfill but that's just extra profit, the game will still do the same 4% return and if you won, others will just lose more. In any case, the casino ALWAYS wins and the players ALWAYS lose.

    • @AArrad
      @AArrad 4 года назад +1

      Solun I understand, theyre thinking large scale, but one way to boost profits is to keep people playing. After I had won a large amount of money, I tried cashing out online. They didn’t let me until they verified my information. So they let me deposit hundreds more but still wouldn’t let me cash anything out for a 3 day period. I ended up losing it all and more. So I understand that in the grand scheme they don’t care if you win or lose, but what they want is more gambling, because the more money that passes through their games the bigger the % they end up with.

Seems like gambling encourages compulsive behaviour

      Gambling is a waste of time and money. Look at it this way: how much could you accomplish if you took all the hours you gamble and think about gambling and used that time to learn things, make friends, get in shape, and increase your income? We humans get lured into gambling by the possibility that we could make a ton of money quickly, but when you look at it from the big picture, you get so much farther in life personally and financially if you learn things and work instead of gamble. Just some food for thought.

      Addiction rehab stories commonly involve a person losing everything and then being forced to face themselves and go on the right path. Whatever someone's substance of choice is (whether it be gambling, alcohol, drugs, etc.) the substance is like oxygen for a fire in that as long as it exists it'll likely feed the addiction.

    Not sure about the science, but your math is right. If you could play an infinite number of times, statistics says that you will eventually lose all of your money because the house takes a cut. Sure, someone might beat the odds with big winnings but only if they can walk away from the game.

    The reason why the gambler did not leave when he
    was up $140 is because he did not know that this
    is the maximum win that he will have for that evening.
    It is in hindsight that we can say he should have left
    with the $140 but at that time,the gambler could not have known that.

    • @ZachGood
      @ZachGood  6 лет назад +8

      I agree - the unpredictability of the 'highs' and 'lows' is a major driving force behind the psychology of trouble gambling. When we lose 90% of our stack we think 'Okay, this HAS to be the low, I'm due to recoup that loss,' and when we're up 50% we think 'Okay, I'm up, but I think I could win a little more...'. That's why, if someone gambles (and hopefully they're not a compulsive/trouble gambler, because those people shouldn't gamble at all), it's important they set stringent, conservative limits on how much we're willing to lose in one session and also their cash-out limit for when they win in a session. For example, a smart gambler (again, someone who doesn't have a gambling addiction) would walk into the casino with, say, $50, and agree that if they lose that $50 they'll leave, and if they go up by, say, $30-50, they'll leave.

      This is the key to gambling. I gamble playing $1/2 no limit hold-em. I've lost money and I've won money. However, you need to be able to win to keep the desire to play ongoing. I keep a spreadsheet on my home computer and I keep a bankroll tracker app on my phone. I know what days I win the most money, what time of day wins me the most money, which month wins me the most money, and what dates of the month win me the most money.
      You have to track your progress and for a slot machine person, that is not the easiest thing for them to do. I play poker by an hourly wage. I've I'm exceeding the hourly wage for part-time work, I'm probably only playing 2-3 hours, because I'm staying above minimum wage. My hourly average wage for 2018 was $10 and I played over 300 hours.

    I suggest there is another more simple explanation. Fear, especially for the addicted gambler, is stronger than greed. Let's use baccarat as an example which is essentially a coin toss game. The casino edge is the smallest in the house. On bank it is only 1.06 per cent. But the casino typically earns 14 per cent of the drop or 14 times as much. How does it do that? The typical gambler flat bets when he wins and chases it when he loses. When he wins 4 bets in a row. He wins 4 unit. But when he loses, he bets 1, 2, 4, 8 units or 15 units. In other words, his average winning bet will always be less than his average winning bet, because he never bets its up when he's winning. He only bets it up when he's losing.

      This goes along with research that demonstrates that we humans have a greater emotional response to losing a dollar than winning a dollar. The fear of loss is indeed very strong.

      This is very true of all addictions. For the most part, someone who's addicted knows what they're doing is harmful (or, at the very least, not helpful). The trouble is if our brains know of no other way to cope with the emotions and thoughts that drive our addictions, then our brains keep wanting to rely on the addictive behavior. Recovery and rehabilitation are all about connecting ourselves with new coping skills that resonate with us. The difference between addiction and recovery is knowledge and effort: the knowledge of a healthy coping mechanism and the effort to implement it into our lives.

    People are addicted to the high. Eventually, they need to feel that state of mind all the time.
    Even just ordinary life seems unbearable to an addict.
    So the way to take these people back to Earth is a really hard beating (eg caning for a few hours) or taser treatment to prove that ordinary life is not really that bad.
    But a better solution is to swap their bad addiction for a good one.

    If you focus on the pain that it causes you, believe me you will hate it, but if you go once a year (even that is not good) but then its fun to do, but trying to pay debts and make profits that will not work this will destroy your life! And you know why because the long terms of gambling will kill a person. For example imagine if you win 5000 dollar, euro or whatever you will say i will make more after a while and you will make like 2000 more, BUT THEN you will go down a couple of hundreds and think ahh man i want that back and back and back so the greed will come out and before you know you will have 0 dollar/euro..gambling is fun for once a year not for every week or month!

Trust me, if I ever get back to even *I will quit*. Just can't get on that 8K streak like I did when I didn't know any better. I wish I could go back 5 years ago and punch myself in the stomach.

      Hey @The Rock I want to warn you that your mindset is going to ruin you for life. You think you want to get even but when you do you will end up loosing again. Your wish about getting even was all I ever wanted in my life over 10 years of my life all I said to myself was if I get even I quit and I hate this. That was my plan and hope every single time I went into a casino. Guess how many times I broke even? Exactly 8 times over 10 years, and I actually won back all my losses and made a profit every of those 8 times atleast 10k profit. And I'm talking big amounts like the smallest recoup of losses would be at least 10 times of your lifetime losses you mentioned in your post. If I had walked out of any of those 8 instances not only would my slate be cleaned but I would have walked away with $10k or sometimes even $30k over the $300k+ I've lost (I'm talking Australian dollars so it's pretty close to USD rate). And guess what? I've never walked away and I would tell myself the lie that yes it would be next time, I made a mistake but next time I break even I will walk away because now I know what I shouldn't do and after all I only want to break even so it can't be that hard. But mate that happened 8 times and my dream planned even though I achieved and surpassed it never actually worked. If youre young I urge you not to think this way, I am too old but if you are young don't make the same mistake as me. More than the money, I miss the time I lost in my life that I was supposed to be living out there and enjoying. Now I can't get back the time.

    • @tharinduranathunga6569
      @tharinduranathunga6569 5 лет назад +1

      Also you are wrong yet, you think the worst thing that could happen to you was the big win. Actually nope, the worst thing that could happen to you is if infact you win back the money to break even. I so hope that never happens to you. If you ever break even just once you will be ruined for life. See my other comment on 8 failures. Cause once you break even and then you loose, you will know ahah I can break even, and I just have to walk away next time. I made a RUclips account just to reply to your comment. Hope you learn something from my life.

    • @ZachGood
      @ZachGood  6 лет назад +4

      I'm not a licensed mental health professional, so I can't make a determination as to whether or not you have a gambling addiction (and even if I were licensed, I'd need much more information to determine whether or not you have a gambling addiction). That said, here's what's true: if you put that $300 in the bank each week, in a year you'd have $15,000 guaranteed. As they say in Rounders, "You can't lose what you don't put in the middle." Do you track your ongoing +/- from your gambling sessions? I'll bet that if you did, you'd probably see that you lose a few grand out of that $15,000. Essentially, that difference is, at the least, an entertainment fee for you.
      But let's look at the even bigger picture. At the end of a year, let's say you lose $2,000 gambling (so you have $13,000 instead of $15,000). What do you have to show for those hundreds of hours you spent gambling? Just a bunch of stories about the big win you had or the big loss you had. You have no greater skills or life experiences as a result of that time. The money lost is replaceable, but the time lost is irreplaceable.
      If you win money in the long-run, the fact still remains that from all the time you spent gambling the only skills/knowledge you learned is perhaps some probability/math and just a bunch of stories about wins and losses. If you spent all those hours learning a new trade or skill, imagine how much farther along you'd be? Perhaps you'd be making $1,200 a week or $2,000 a week?
      What I'm saying is, you should start betting on yourself. It'll pay off financially and socially in a way gambling never could.

    Zach your right on with the theory of not taking the winnings and staying on the table gambling. I can't reveal too much but lets just say I use to get calls every weekend during football season..lol It went on for a decade. The entire point of wagering is to make money but not everyone is a pro. It takes the professionalism to walk away with the profits and be addicted to that alone. If you are a sports wagerer then you can really make money by managing your money properly. Now we can go on forever but we both know they are not going to do it..lol So good luck to you and keep up the good work!!! BTW I've been planning a show on this for a while and by looking at you it seems you would fit perfect with us. Please let me know if your interested in more information. Thanks again.

      If you think you have an issue with gambling, you should contact an addiction center or do some research online into how you can learn to overcome it. The only things separating an addict from a non-addict are determination (which it sounds like you have) and knowledge. You need to figure out how you came to have a gambling problem, determine why gambling makes you feel 'good' (in other words, what need it's fulfilling in your life), and how to prevent yourself from continuing to gamble. You can do this.

      I'm not a licensed counselor, so this is simply my estimate based on my knowledge: Maybe (but it's not worth trying).
      Depending on the situation, some individuals with addictions can reform their behaviors to the point where they can exercise moderation. For example, some people with alcoholism can learn to drink in moderation with the right therapy and approach. That said, it's not wise for a person with an addiction to try to learn moderation because it'll likely result in more loss and suffering. It's best for people with addictions to simply abstain from the addictive behavior.

      Everytime you feel like you want to go to the casino. Take a deep breath and meditate for 30 seconds. It would massively help your brain to think more rationally

    It comes from a mindset of lack.
    Believing that you need more than you already have is the lie!
    It's a philosophy and a belief that needs to shift.
    I know it's a larger beast than this but after 20 yrs of gambling I have been working on my mindset of lack.
    Working on my belief system is helping me

    I lose when I back horses and also lose when I lay them. The horses seem to win easily when I lay then. Disgusting sport

      Respectfully, you're a dumbass if you think you'll get rich gambling.
      Don't buy into crypto, either. Why?
      Look at all the criminals involved, rape, child molesting, drugs. Anything. Scammers. Thieves. No good.
      Get smart. Get a job and learn to INVEST in stocks, mutual funds and so on. There is no short, huge gain, for the most part. Buy you won't starve for sure.
