Thank you for posting these video’s. Its really helpful for families going through this and not really knowing how to handle. Glad to see you are doing great 🙏🏾.
My dad recently had his stomach remove due to stomach cancer. Do you mind me asking a couple of questions.
How long did it take you to eat normal food and the portions size?

Hi Roseline! I'm sorry I missed this message and by now your dad has gone back to more of a normal life. It took me a really long time to get back to a normal diet. I'm now about 9 years out and things have gone to a new normal and I'm eating enough to maintain weight.

Do you experience the dumping syndrome like nausea dizzy or weakness?

I definitely still struggle with nausea, but over the years everything has really mellowed out and I've been able to figure out my diet so that it does not effect me as much.

my mom and my aunt both passed away in their 50s from stomach cancer. the cdh1 gene runs in their family and ive waited about 7 years to get the genetic testing done. but now that i have two young daughters, one 4 year old and a 3 month old, i know that i need to know for their sake. im worried that ive waited too long and that ill leave my children while they are so young. i didnt know that the cancer could show up so early, i figured since my mom and aunt were in their 50s i had time. im still waiting on the results of my genetic testing but im worried. my brother has the gene but he's decided to not have the gastrectomy. i will get it for my kids' sake, but i feel bad about potentially passing it on to them. my mom died as a Christian and ive been struggling with faith for years now. she said she hopes i find god so i could see her again someday but i dont know if i can. do you have any advice?

Hey Metal Dave, I’m so sorry to hear about what you have gone through with your aunt and your mom. CDH1 was brutal on my family as well. When my sister died, I became an athiest. It took me a while, one step at a time to realize all the various ways God was with me even when I didn’t realize it. My faith has been a huge part of my journey and I realize everyone has their own. I’d encourage you to find someone you trust to just bounce your ideas off of and help you process.
As for CDH1, get tested. The hardest part is getting down to your geneticist. As someone who grew up without a dad because of CDH1, I knew it was going to take courage, but it helped knowing it was going to be for my own kids. You got this brother.
Let me know if I can encourage you some how! 👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
