I am progressing quite fast using your amazing site. I was wondering now if I should buy a loop (make a loop). Can you pls post some choreography with the loop? Or a small combo let's say of 5 moves? just to help me decide. Many thanks.

Yay that's so good to hear! There are loads of tutorials for loop moves on the academy which you can watch, at the moment I don't have any combinations filmed using the loop. I had a baby 2 weeks ago so I'm taking some time off filming, I'll be sure to film some combos when I'm back to work properly :)

Never learn aerial alone. I am doing a degree in circus performance and have been performing aerial silks, aerial hoop, occasion flying trapeze for 8 years, and I cringe when I read comments like "I've been to two classes, now I've bought a hoop and put it in a tree and am learning off your RUclips" or words to that effect. That's incredibly dangerous to do with little experience in aerial, aerial safety and rigging and with no spotter? You need to make sure whatever you've been rigging from needs to have had a stress check and you should never train alone. Preferably with a fellow aerialist so they can potentially spot your mistakes before it leads to a fall/ injury. I'm worried this channel leads a lot of people to do that sort of thing and I hate to say it but some of these tutorials I've watched aren't particularly clear. Has Robin had professional aerial training? I've never seen an aerial teacher teach you to spin forwards, it doesn't look neat and then you can't do flare ups. Mind you, that's somewhat advanced and I notice all the tutorials on this channel are mainly beginner moves, with a few "improver" at a stretch which makes me question this lady's competence. I don't want to hate on her as a person, she sounds warm and genuine, but I'm concerned that people are gonna watch these videos, think it's safe to teach themselves via RUclips and unsafely rig am aerial hoop in their homes and get badly injured and who wants that to happen?

Hi Rose, you are completely correct! No one should learn aerial without a spotter or rig from trees etc. I write that in the description box of every video :) I would really hope that if someone is watching tutorial videos that they would read the description box in case it contains additional information, and would spend time educating themselves in regards to doing aerial away from a studio environment, but I totally understand your point that there will be some people who don't! I also tell anyone who asks that youtube can be great for ideas or learning the occasional move if you're already competent, but teaching yourself aerial only from youtube is a massive no, the best way to learn is in person from a good instructor! The audience I have in mind for my videos are people attending classes who might show their instructor something they want to learn/aim to learn, instructors or performers looking for new ideas, though again I totally understand that I can't control who watches videos on youtube or what they do with the information.
Yes you're correct, I don't show advanced tutorials on youtube, I keep the advanced moves for my lovely students :)
In regards to spinning forwards, you can start a spin going forward or backward. Though depending on what you want to do with the spin, this will affect which direction you spin. For example, in this video the purpose of the spin was to simply start a spin, from this position spinning forward you could make various shapes or tuck up and bring your legs into the hoop. If you want to your spin to lead into flare ups then yes you're correct, it's definitely easier to spin backwards (it's not impossible from spinning forward, just more difficult!), so in that case you would start the spin going backwards. I hope that makes sense :)

@@UniqueAerialists thanks for replying Robin! (Hope I spelt your name right?)
I do feel reassured now, whilst you can't control who watches your videos and what they do with it I'm reassured to know that you highlight the dangers of training without proper aerial or rigging knowledge. Anyone who doesn't know what they're doing and decides to try a curly wurly drop from a silk in a tree, well, they have been warned! I guess with the spinning thing I've just always been taught to spin backwards because it is always for the purpose of going into flare ups and meathooks etc because the purpose of my degree is to get you ready for the performance industry and making crazy routines in a short space of time. Sorry if I came across a bit aggressive, I wrote that comment very late at night and I've seen a lot of people on Facebook doing aerial hoop from rickety beams in their houses after one or two classes so I saw the video and thought "oh shit this is just gonna encourage that"
      Peace,
      Rose x
