Here are some key principles I put together from all the research I've
done in the field of Crypto currencies that may potentially save someone
of all their coins one day or make you a bucket load
The 15 Crypto-Commandments:
1. Don’t risk what you’re not willing to lose!
2. When pig’s fly, go with it. If you think a coin isn’t meant to boom
and it does, don’t act dumbfounded, but be willing to jump on
the bandwagon. You should be in this to make money.
3. Security first! Crypto theft happens on the reg. Cold wallets are
great. Consider also buying buying a laptop/ pc purely for Crypto
only.
4. Don’t use the same passwords that you use for social media!
Also keep them somewhere safe and hold on to them for dear life.
5. Avoid sharing your secret information over social media.
Scammers have been known to hack Facebook accounts
and can masquerade to be your friend, using your previous chat
conversations to mimic the way you talk then ask for your details
with some cool sounding idea i.e. “dude I can double your
money overnight.”
6. Use common sense and if something seems to good to be true,
it usually is.
7. When sending your coins, double check that you are sending it to
the correct address. Hackers are smart and have developed
malware that can change your CTRL-V commands so you may
unknowingly send coins to their address, instead of your own.
8. Avoid using third parties. The Crypto space is about YOU being
your own bank.
9. Don’t keep all your eggs in one basket!
10. Do your due diligence and don’t buy into hype. It’s EASY to get
burned! Don't be another sad story.
11. Don’t think with emotions and don’t get emotionally attached to
one coin! Maintain patience and remember HODL.
12. But also know when to eject. It’s not profit until you’ve cashed out!
13. The Crypto space is huge! Don’t expect to know everything but
work at minimizing your ignorance and monetizing on what you
do know.
14. Be cautious with exchanges and avoid holding your coins in them
for extended periods of time. They have have been hacked in the
past and people have lost big time. (Research MT GOX and BITFINEX hack)
15. Know your transfer points for quick and secure transfers (in-case
of a worst case scenario) like you’re wallet/s being compromised.
It would be soul crushing to sit on the sidelines having your wallets get
drained while being powerless to do anything about it. Failing to prep is
prepping to fail!

With one of the popular Android wallets it's actually really clear how much you pay in transaction fees. Not only in Satoshis but also converted to USD. The only thing you can do wrong is selecting 0 sat/Byte and confirm the transaction despite the warning. But ignoring warnings isn't a good thing in general.

I bought 5 bitcoins in 2013 when they were about $40 each , after i received them , a day later my computer crashed . I was a novice and didn't back up my wallet . Is there any way to recover them ? I still have the computer and its working.

What did you do after the crash? Restore or Re Install Windows? Did any of your files survive or was it wiped?
The c drive failed so got a new 1 installed , the guy that replaced it was able to save some of the data off the failed drive. I've found my bitcoin folder and install in the data he saved. This has my wallet ID and I've found the wallet.dat , is there any way this can find the bitcoins i had?
In that case you should be able to re-sync the Bitcoin-qt wallet program and access your Bitcoin. I think the log files may show your Bitcoin address or transaction history and with your address use the explorer to confirm balance.
I managed to get them back , downloaded bitcoin core and it linked up with the older files from my lost wallet .

I am not sure this is any different to the situation when a bank accidentally deposits money into your account. Legally you have to give it back - plenty of people have been prosecuted when trying to use money that was accidentally given to them. Yes I know that bitcoin is totally different and the logistics of actually getting the money back are totally different but surely the same legal principals apply here?
I bought 1000 BTC when a friend introduced me to the idea of crypto back in '10 when bitcoin was new. I had no idea what it really was and I didn't get it. It wasn't worth really anything (~$100) so I wrote it off and lost or threw away my paper wallet. Yeah...

Hmm, this was a stupid mistake, however 99% of those, who lost their coins is by losing/forgot their wallet: This happened to me. Damage for me was only 21 BTC however at peek times end 2013 (and even crash afterwards) value you would NOT like to see disappear in a "black hole".
I never cried, but accepted the risk (and the reason why I lost was because using Windows, and not safe local profile and thought it was on a spare partition, that was not where the wallet was :( )
Now I'm on Linux, make multiple backups and test them. Instead of Bitcoin, invest in Ethereum. This works well for now.
This whole cryptocurrency-world is young, but makes sense and will be the future.
Thats why I put my (savings) money into it and not banks (interest lower then inflation??) or regular stock exchanges (high fees, no control).

I'm impressed with bitclub pool for trying to do the right thing and hope it works out for this individual. Maybe the technology will evolve to include safeguards. Like, why should any wallet software ever allow inputing 200+ BTC as a fee? That's a bug and should have a reasonable limit simply to protect folks. Unless it turns out to a purposeful act to donate BTC to some miners ;-)

Use phone verification and google autheticator app. Look at the settings on coinbase you will find how you can secure it more. But overall coinbase is a secure app
