Ma Sha Allah. Listening to Dr. Yasir Qadhi gives me ecstasy and joy the like of which I can barely describe. I do hope to meet him personally and learn from him. This sounds like a dream but I pray it happens. He isn't just dynamic but has been a figure who has shifts trends and makes Islam a much understandable and "well befitting" religion for the westerners. His scholarly opinions are undoubtedly on point and his categorization of Salafism from an academic perspective should take precedence to all before it. Jack Munson - Sheikh Yasir is presenting an academic critique of some fellow academic peers. He is NOT criticizing salafism. The critique is in response to categorizing differing practices and philosophies within Salafism. But yes to your question- it leaves ones (my) head spinning with thinking through the categorizations and possible new developments within Salafism and a little in awe of how organizations and split and grow and reform itself organically.

I always had the confusion, Why these salafis are talking against other salafi movements. Most of the doubts are cleared. Jazakallahu khairan for a good lecture. In my view, salafi movements who involved in politics are better, as they speak about real time issues.
The overview was pretty interesting, however, Dr. Yasir could have shared with us what are the theological evidences used by each of the salafi groups to support their positions. The lecture was too opinionated.

It's no adap in The Islam to give a converence, during a dinner service. That is absolutely not acceptable. We are not like non-muslims, we pay respect for the meal that Allahu Teala has given us. The adap is, first eat in silence and than go over to the converence. You can talk during te meal, but under the circumstances to keep it short and make you dua as quick as possible. I think you misunderstood why people started using the title salaf my brother, there is absolutely nothing wrong with ascribing yourself to the early generation of Muslims my brother, Baarak Allahu feek. This title is used to be distinct from other groups who have transgressed beyond the limits set by Allah and ultimately to go back to the way of Prophet alayhi salam and his companions. Yes people have used the title Salafi and have erred in their understanding of why we use the title. The same way non muslims hear the word Islam and have their concerns for what it is, is the same way muslims here the word salaf and react negatively without knowledge. The Prophet alayhi Salam was the first one to use the word "salaf" in the hadith were he speaks to his daughter Fatima. The point im making is that we are Muslims Wal Hamdulilah, but understand that this title Salaf Us Saalih is fine and a beautiful way to remember the best of muslims, the first three generations!! if one is trying to follow the way of the Prophet and his companions, and uses this title and is just in his/her dealings and has sabr and good Akhlaaq with the Muslims as the salaf did, as well as most importantly having a sound understanding of Islam, then this is completely permissible! Yasir Qadhis aqeedah is still correct eg atharee, salafee but he has differed on issues on methodology. A good understanding on his aqeedah stance would be his PhD thesis on Ibn taymmiyah. He sticks to his aqeedah because historically it is the original and has strong evidences for this. Ashari is something that was new and was in response to a philosophical stance in regards to attributes of Allah that had not originally been dealt with in detail. Read his thesis for further clarification.
Would it be correct to say he has shifted to a more hizbi/ikhwani stance. He may still have the correct understanding and aqeedah but sees uniting with differing sects as the way foward which goes against the strong 'salafi/athari' position.
0121_ R.K I don’t think so. Firstly, it is not strictly Salafi/Athari that one should not try to unite Muslims in general. This does not mean that one should ignore differences, misunderstandings, and deviations from the truth. Rather, it means striving to educate the people and unite them on the truth, as Ibn Abbass did with the Khawarij. Essentially, Yasir Qadhi’s decision to distance himself from “Salafi” movements has mostly to do with political stances rather than religious manhaj. The term Salafi has no religious value in of it self. Rather, following the “Salaf”, Muslim is the term that is mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah, and that is a part of the religion (obviously). Essentially, Yasir Qadhi is “Salafi” in a Fiqhi or Scholarly sense, but is not “Salafi” in the middle-eastern 20th-21st century political and historic sense.

I also find myself as I get oldrer gravitating towards the need for the ummah to unite on that which is beneficial and differ on the things we differ due to geopolitical reasons. Historically you can see this happened and Salahuddeen Ayubi is a good example. For me personally I come from a family which is a mixture of different sects yet we still get along and do things together so I don't see why this should be an issue on a global level.
While I like people like yasir and Jonathan, what makes me hesistant about you guys is that you cant follow the simple Sunnahs. I see so many non salafi atharis doing the opposite of the easiest of the Sunnahs such as trimming your beared, wearing your trousers below your ankels, shaking hands with women etc... This makes me wonder: Do you even follow/ accept hadiths of the Profet saw where he says that women that wear perfume equals a fornicator? If you want more people to turn away from salafism I think you should start following the simpelest of the Sunnahs at first or at the very least dissus such easy Sunnahs and why many sheikhs dont follow them. Assalamuwalakum brother, We don't need to be hesitant about a persons Islam, or whatever you are referring to, because they may fall short in some simple sunnahs here and there. We cannot expect them to be perfect, so there can't be any harm in taking whatever knowledge they give and see if it's useful. At least their aqeedah is intact inshaAllah. But just to talk about the sunnah's you mentioned, there are some differences in opinions between the scholars and madhabs regarding these issues. I mean, some say the beard needs to be the length of your fist, others let it grow out entirely. Of course, it is disliked (mukhrooh) to shake a women's hand, but there are some scholars who say it is "ok" but very disliked. So there are these kind of differences.

There are no different brands or strands of Salafi Dawah. Salafi Dawah is Salafi Dawah. I e. From the principle of Salafi Dawah is to obey the rulers, advice according to the Sunnah and manhajus Salaf. Rebelling is not allowed unless two conditions are met. Clear kufr made and removing without any bloodshed.
There are many many people who call themselves Salafis who will disagree with you and have their evidences just like you do. I'm sure you will not consider them Salafis (you will call them khawarij) and they will not consider you a Salafi either (they will call you a murjii) Disobeying and even rebelling against rulers was common among the Salaf btw
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa baarakatahu, Ya Ikwaan fi deen, Ascribing yourself to the salaf (early generations Prophet alayhi salam, Sahabad, ta'bieen, etc) is what every Muslim should do! we want to follow The Messenger alayhi salam and the sahaba as Allah says (translation) in the Surah Nisa (115): And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers - We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination. We know the believers are those with the Prophet alayhi salam so we should follow the Salaf (Messenger, Sahaba etc) and if you say you follow the salaf of this Ummah then that is good we ALL SHOULD!! If you call to a sect/group it does not matter what title you give yourselves, you are following other than the way of the believers! This is clear oh Muslims! Do not be fooled by those who try to take you away from what is Authentic in our deen, as there are many Celebrity Muslim callers today and they are certainly not all Salafi's, Sufi's, etc they can call themselves JUST MUSLIM, they could still be misguided! refer back to true scholars my brothers, there are still some left and you can see from their speech and action, they are more virtuous than our du'at in the West by miles! Yasir Qadhi position on aqeedah is that of the salaf, atharee not the mauridi or asharee. You can gain some good insight by reading his PhD thesis found free on the net.

Stay far away from people like Yasir Qadhi (Zahdi) who change like the direction of the wind. You know who else doesn’t have doubts? Christian fundamentalists. Doubt is how you get closer to truth. Anyway, you could be right. But I think there’s a lot of ignorance out there. Changing one’s mind is a sign of reflection and thoughtfulness, and openness to new ideas. Which is how we get to the truth. On the other hand, if someone has gone their entire lives and never ever changed their mind, I would think they’re probably brain dead or a zombie. It's no adap in The Islam to give a converence, during a dinner service. That is absolutely not acceptable. We are not like non-muslims, we pay respect for the meal that Allahu Teala has given us. I think you misunderstood why people started using the title salaf my brother, there is absolutely nothing wrong with ascribing yourself to the early generation of Muslims my brother, Baarak Allahu feek. This title is used to be distinct from other groups who have transgressed beyond the limits set by Allah and ultimately to go back to the way of Prophet alayhi salam and his companions. Yes people have used the title Salafi and have erred in their understanding of why we use the title. The same way non muslims hear the word Islam and have their concerns for what it is, is the same way muslims here the word salaf and react negatively without knowledge. The Prophet alayhi Salam was the first one to use the word "salaf" in the hadith were he speaks to his daughter Fatima.
The point im making is that we are Muslims Wal Hamdulilah, but understand that this title Salaf Us Saalih is fine and a beautiful way to remember the best of muslims, the first three generations!! if one is trying to follow the way of the Prophet and his companions, and uses this title and is just in his/her dealings and has sabr and good Akhlaaq with the Muslims as the salaf did, as well as most importantly having a sound understanding of Islam, then this is completely permissible! And Allah knows best.

Assalamu alaikum dear respected Shaikh Yasir. Since you no longer follow the salafi methodology/manhaj according to your admission, I'm wondering who do you associate yourself with? Any particular madhab or school of thought. Which aqidah ( maturidi, ashari, Sufi, deobandi, etc)??? May Allah bless you and your family. I saw today some earlier video clips of you, and I'm having a hard time to accept this new reality and your new position.
Yasir Qadhis aqeedah is still correct eg atharee, salafee but he has differed on issues on methodology. A good understanding on his aqeedah stance would be his PhD thesis on Ibn taymmiyah. He sticks to his aqeedah because historically it is the original and has strong evidences for this. Ashari is something that was new and was in response to a philosophical stance in regards to attributes of Allah that had not originally been dealt with in detail. Read his thesis for further clarification.
Would it be correct to say he has shifted to a more hizbi/ikhwani stance. He may still have the correct understanding and aqeedah but sees uniting with differing sects as the way foward which goes against the strong 'salafi/athari' position.
0121_ R.K I don’t think so. Firstly, it is not strictly Salafi/Athari that one should not try to unite Muslims in general. This does not mean that one should ignore differences, misunderstandings, and deviations from the truth. Rather, it means striving to educate the people and unite them on the truth, as Ibn Abbass did with the Khawarij. Essentially, Yasir Qadhi’s decision to distance himself from “Salafi” movements has mostly to do with political stances rather than religious manhaj. The term Salafi has no religious value in of it self. Rather, following the “Salaf”, Muslim is the term that is mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah, and that is a part of the religion (obviously). Essentially, Yasir Qadhi is “Salafi” in a Fiqhi or Scholarly sense, but is not “Salafi” in the middle-eastern 20th-21st century political and historic sense.

I also find myself as I get oldrer gravitating towards the need for the ummah to unite on that which is beneficial and differ on the things we differ due to geopolitical reasons. Historically you can see this happened and Salahuddeen Ayubi is a good example.
For me personally I come from a family which is a mixture of different sects yet we still get along and do things together so I don't see why this should be an issue on a global level.
While I like people like yasir and Jonathan, what makes me hesistant about you guys is that you cant follow the simple Sunnahs. I see so many non salafi atharis doing the opposite of the easiest of the Sunnahs such as trimming your beared, wearing your trousers below your ankels, shaking hands with women etc...
This makes me wonder: Do you even follow/ accept hadiths of the Profet saw where he says that women that wear perfume equals a fornicator? If you want more people to turn away from salafism I think you should start following the simpelest of the Sunnahs at first or at the very least dissus such easy Sunnahs and why many sheikhs dont follow them.

We don't need to be hesitant about a persons Islam, or whatever you are referring to, because they may fall short in some simple sunnahs here and there. We cannot expect them to be perfect, so there can't be any harm in taking whatever knowledge they give and see if it's useful. At least their aqeedah is intact inshaAllah.
But just to talk about the sunnah's you mentioned, there are some differences in opinions between the scholars and madhabs regarding these issues. I mean, some say the beard needs to be the length of your fist, others let it grow out entirely. Of course, it is disliked (mukhrooh) to shake a women's hand, but there are some scholars who say it is "ok" but very disliked. So there are these kind of differences.

There are no different brands or strands of Salafi Dawah. Salafi Dawah is Salafi Dawah. I e. Ya Ikwaan fi deen, Ascribing yourself to the salaf (early generations Prophet alayhi salam, Sahabad, ta'bieen, etc) is what every Muslim should do! we want to follow The Messenger alayhi salam and the sahaba as Allah says (translation) in the Surah Nisa (115): And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers - We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination.
We know the believers are those with the Prophet alayhi salam so we should follow the Salaf (Messenger, Sahaba etc) and if you say you follow the salaf of this Ummah then that is good we ALL SHOULD!!
If you call to a sect/group it does not matter what title you give yourselves, you are following other than the way of the believers! This is clear oh Muslims! Do not be fooled by those who try to take you away from what is Authentic in our deen, as there are many Celebrity Muslim callers today and they are certainly not all Salafi's, Sufi's, etc they can call themselves JUST MUSLIM, they could still be misguided! refer back to true scholars my brothers, there are still some left and you can see from their speech and action, they are more virtuous than our du'at in the West by miles! Yasir Qadhi position on aqeedah is that of the salaf, atharee not the mauridi or asharee. You can gain some good insight by reading his PhD thesis found free on the net.
yasir qadhi has some good stuff. but he should ask for knowledge from the MAJOR SCHOLARS.

What has sheikh Muhammad ibn Abdul wahhab said in his dawah or books that contradict the Quran, sunnah, salaf, and ijmaa?
People only attack the sheikh by saying he's a spy, he's a traitor, he is a munafiq and etc... But they never attack his dawah or books. Because they know if they do so then they end up attacking Islam.

Stay far away from people like Yasir Qadhi (Zahdi) who change like the direction of the wind. Nabi Muhammad (Sal Allahu alayhi wa salaam) warned the Believers about people like Yasir Qadhi that would come in the future. Do Not Take Knowledge From Him as his opinions constantly change! Which means he has doubts! Kufr. Aqeedah does not change, but Iman does. Shaytan has impacted this brother. May Allah ta ala Azwajl guide him right again.
You know who else doesn’t have doubts? Christian fundamentalists. Doubt is how you get closer to truth. Anyway, you could be right. But I think there’s a lot of ignorance out there. Changing one’s mind is a sign of reflection and thoughtfulness, and openness to new ideas. Which is how we get to the truth. On the other hand, if someone has gone their entire lives and never ever changed their mind, I would think they’re probably brain dead or a zombie. Granted, perhaps in religious matters some certainty is important. But yeah overall you sound pretty ignorant calling him a kafir just because he uses the brain God gave him.
