I never used baking soda. I use veggie broth, vinegar, some hot sauce, Lowrys, black pepper, onions, garlic, paprika, red bell peppers, pepper flakes, liquid smoke or smoked tempeh bacon or oven roasted jackfruit shreds and a tsp of organic sugar. And I cook for like 2 hrs

    I do Kale and Mustard!
Edit: Ps. If you want the vinegar taste without the vinegar TASTE, try banana peppers or the juice. It’s fire. You’re welcome.

Tip! Do not salt your greens prior to them getting tender, salt will make them tough

Looked very good. I just bought a bunch of collards. My daughter and I are anemic. So she is turning vegetarian on me. So I can't put any meat products in with it. But glad to hear that you can use veggie broth 😊

I cook mine in only veggie broth. Fresh out of the garden collards are tender. Store bought take much longer to cook

I was also late to the collard greens party. The majority of my life I hated them, but after becoming vegan a few years ago and cooking them myself I don't mind them. I definitely make sure to have them every New Years!

If you wash your greens, cut them and freeze them the day before cooking them, the greens will be really tender; even the stems

If you freeze fresh collards overnight, then it will soften up faster when cooking...

I love your sous chef. I've never put vinegar in my greens nor onions and garlic, but I'll try the onion and garlic next time since I love both! Thanks for sharing! Happy holidays!

@@ThatChocolateVegan well I'm not vegan, I just love your channel. I use turkey or a ham hock and a little oil at the end. Lawry's, black pepper, garlic powder, water. When I did it vegan I eliminated the meat of course and used smoked salt and vegetable broth with black pepper, garlic powder.

I love collard greens...I cook them 2-3 times out of the month. They do take a couple hours to get tender.

You have amazing white teeth. I have a very good friend in Africa and she has the prettiest whitest teeth ever and I know it has to be related to her diet and I just got to say that a lot of white people don't have as white teeth. (me) And I met a man that said his family had no cancer at all and they always ate collards. I'm glad I saw this recipe because every single recipe I have looked at says to use ham hocks and I don't have any and also my son is vegan so I want to know more vegan recipes. Thank you.❤ I don't know if that's your child but she has such a cute voice!❤ Oh my gosh it's been a long time since I bought James crazy mixed up salt! Seasonings make ALL the difference.
