Is there a way to change the ribbons inside of those cartridges?!

I bought one of these recently for my wife to write her novel. We are both new to typewriters. I was wondering if you had experience with the spacebar coming off? It seems like I should be able to just set it on, but I can’t get it to sit right or stay on. Also, how does one disengage the shift key? I pressed it down and I can’y figure out how to get it unshifted 😅 Thank you :)

Yes. My favorite electric for writing is the late 50s Smith Corona Electric (5TE series).
