Thank you so much! With your easy to follow video, I was able to change the belt on my husband's x350. Of course it took me longer than your video but he's out there mowing our 1.5 acres. He would have done it himself but his health and mobility are not what they were. He loves riding his mower!
FYI - you do not need to remove the spindle guard completely; just loosen both nuts until you can tip the guard back far enough to get the belt through.
Mine broke last weekend. Got the belt and changed it today. Great detail. followed this video step by step and had it done in no time. Thanks for the video. Saved me some $$$.
Awesome video. The manual was not very useful for this belt install but this video was very clear. I also greatly appreciate that John Deere engineered the deck and mower with repairs in mind... have you heard the story that some Jaguar's require the engine to be dropped to change a spark plug? Not this system. Keep making videos like this and I will continue to be a loyal Deere customer.
I’ve got a seized spindle (the one with the black cover 5mins 42seconds). Thank you for this video Sir. Any tips on unseizing or removing? I’ve mower deck dropped, blade off and at the spindle.
Just changed belt and burnt the new one up in about 15 minutes. I did not notice that the belt on the chute side of the tractor had looped to outside of the deck height adjusting bolt. Chewed it to pieces. Double check belt routing from all sides to be safe
Guard at 3:33 is burning my belt on my x350.... $104 for a new belt tried to 180 the position of the guard since it can only go in two ways because of the notches in the threads of the guard. Looks like the same issue. It looks like its going to rub. Ugh, what gives?
You will need a 13mm socket and wrench. Also a 15mm socket to remove the pully/belt retainer. He does not mention the sizes of tools you need. Great step-by-step on how to do it.
Coming from an owner of the exact same tractor and mowing deck, I have to say that changing the belt is a royal pain in the ass! Surely the engineer's at JD can come up with a better solution than having to: 1) completely remove the mowing deck from beneath the machine, 2) remove two sets of belt guards, 3) remove a pulley cover guard assembly, 4) completely remove an entire idler pulley assembly then turn around andreverse the process to put it all back together. Ridiculous! Is this the best JD can offer?
Thanks for sharing. I ordered a belt to replace it as preventive maintenance and also replaced the blades to start out the mowing season. I have two sets of blades so I'll take and get the old set sharpened. Thanks again for this video as I forgot how the belt went after I took it off.
I love my old 2001 LX255- This is a stupid design. Prone to issues ware and problems. Sorry John Deere. New and not improved. What a process! Lots of extra steps and work.

grease the spindles a few times throughout the season. maybe get a new spindle it is just unbolting it and replacing new one.
Doe this apply to the x380 model as well?
Just changed belt and burnt the new one up in about 15 minutes. I did not notice that the belt on the chute side of the tractor had looped to outside of the deck height adjusting bolt. Chewed it to pieces. Double check belt routing from all sides to be safe

What size belt is needed? I’m having a hard time finding the correct belt
144.8”
Great time to change blades and grease the spindle bearings !

Totally agree. Also thankful for this video, as my belt just carked it today.
I'm with you..
Oh, did I mention the $ 100 cost for the belt itself?

Call out the sizes next time for thumbs up

We're sorry you feel that way, Paul!
Forgot to tighten that bolt
Couldn't you just cut the stupid belt off? Liked video.
I didn’t even use tools you can fit the belt between those bars they’re payable just put some M.A.N. behind it.
you do not need remove deack at all and you do not need to remova hinged covers
