I currently own a 2016 LR4. I have owned an LR3, loved it. A Range Rover Sport and a 2002 Disco. The LR4 is the best overall vehicle Land Rover has ever made. The Discovery 5 is a soccer mom’s car. It looks like every other small SUV out there. When you drive the LR4 people notice. It’s a beast! It has a classic, timeless style. Huge cargo capacity and seven seats. In New England we deal with driving in snowy conditions. My LR4 has never let me down. I can’t tell you how many people have offered to buy my LR4. The key to maintaining this vehicle is to not skip on the maintenance schedule. Find a good local mechanic who knows what he is doing, mine specializes in LR/RR’s and change the oil every 5,000 miles you will have years of good driving in you LR4.
Had the Disco 3 for four years, loved it that much I’ve now owned my Disco 4 for 3 years. Just a shame the Disco 5 came along, awful car so looks like I’ll have to keep the Disco 4 as there’s nothing on the market that matches the Disco. Maybe a Defender in years to come but given their prices, I’m not sure I can justify the change yet.
Loved the review - We've had our 11 plate D4 HSE in the family for the last 10 years with very few problems. Recently we also bought a new Discovery which my wife loves but I still prefer the D4 as my daily driver. I've tried other cars but they just don't click like the D4...
Hi. Im considering a D4. What major work should i look out for and would it be a deal breaker if not already done? are there any major reliability issues?
Before you consider buying one of these investigate the engine problems, apparently even if it has full service history the crankshaft problem can still destroy the engine,a new engine is required. This fault can occur with little warning
I've had my 2016 NAS D4 for a couple of years now. I traded in a Mits PHEV for it when I decided to leave NY back in 2020. I've yet to regret the decision.
I laughed as you went on about the engine after I had a D3 Tdv6 for 7 years I sold it bought a Defender 110 Td5 then bought a D4 V8 5.0 litre now this is the best version of the D4! Good review!
8:11 'Yes, there are cheaper alternatives like, Mitsubishi Shogun or Toyota's Land Cruiser, but they don't really have Discos class.' No, you are absolutely right, but they do have bloody amazing reliability. To a Toyota driver, a hard maintenance is filling up and adding air to the tires. To a Land Rover driver, it's doing all the maintenance and fixing, as the main dealers charge a fortune. I've had a LR3 and on a mental score of 10, I will probably get a LR4. Doing all the jobs myself, and just hope the crankshaft problem, which LR will not fix, does not hit me.
Great video, I have the latest disco 4 on 66 plate , it’s a landmark has some of the HSE lux options but not all . It’s a very nice drive fir it’s size and it’s weight . Thanks mark
Disagree with your view on the 2.7 engine. I have both engines. The most reliable is the 2.7. Ford/JLR didn’t take account of the increased pressure the plastic air intake suffers with the 3.0 twin turbo. This becomes an expensive repair at about 100k miles. The engine is in fact a PSA design. It wanted it to a 2.5 litre, but Ford/JLR wanted it to be 3.0. So I would not dismiss a Disco 3 by any means.
How Land Rover fell flat on its face with Discovery 5......has to be case study thesis for marketing dissertation! The Discovery 4 in the Landmark iteration, if it gained 60 - 80mm in length proportions and mild interior changes (especially some 50 - 55mm legroom extension for the third row seats) and incorporation of the I6 ingenium engines, would remain pack leader in this field for another decade plus. Once again, JLR bungled badly with the Discovery 5 namby pamby cross over design.
He said the MPG was 30 miles to a gallon 😂😂😂 Does a gallon mean something else over there? Bc over here a gallon equal 4 quarts and I get 3.5 miles per quart for a total of 14 miles per gallon.
If you are unlucky and get a Friday Car they are an utter dismal totally unreliable failure! I liken ownership of a Disco to that of another British icon the Jaguar - buy two because one will be in the garage most of the time!
I am sorry. I am sure you mean well. But I have downvoted this video because of its "awesome british engineers" praise song. There is just so many times I am able to brush it off. I am not going to point out LR problems. Or fact how british is JLR nowadays. I admit - I did not watch till end. I hope you pointed out all the problems D4 is well known for.
Do not mention the problem of the poor crankshaft that LR say does not exist !! Do not mention the awful awful main dealers who once you have bought the car could not care less.
@@Hidegety1 I'm having a problem - I bought my 2015 Disco 4 two years ago with 55K miles, from a Land Rover AD who have serviced it since purchase. I have driven it for two years and it now clocks 80K miles. The engine has not broken, but continues to perform faultlessly and returns 32mpg. What do you think could have gone wrong? Should I complain to my Land Rover AD about not having a genuine LR engine?

Dame opinion
@Evaluatoru Really, in what way
@Evaluatoru Could you explain how the Mitsubishi is better please? We’re interested to hear your informed opinion. Thanks.

Brilliant D4 review, thank you.
Love my Disco 4. Last of the great Land Rovers
Enjoyed. Very well spoken gentleman, Subscribed
Thank you!
Great car , I still have a Dico 4 HSE V8 petrol.
Only real complaints , fuel economy and SATNAV.
Niggles , only low profile tyres possible.
Don't forget to keep your Credit card close by
Can you please do one for land cruiser thanks
It's all in how they are looked after
Couldn't agree more.
The car at 4:45 is a Range Rover
I spotted that as well
Disco 2 was a whole new car. Wider. Longer. Stiffer.

The Imperial gallon is 20% larger than the US gallon, but really, you should all be using l/100km anyway..
I like that Landrover Discovery lr4.but we're don't driving right handle car. in U .S.A.ok.
What? There's left and right wheeled versions
If you really love your family and you wanted to get stranded with them to spend family you buy a landrover🤣
