Hi ! Alina I have been watching your videos for months and I love each one ,I live in Plovdiv city in Bulgaria,I have been Skopje two times ,but as soon as possible I want to see Ohrid and Vevchani they seem very attractive, thank you for sharing these entertaining and informative videos with us
Glad you are making these videos from Ohrid. Ohrid is a unique city in many ways. Not just the nature but also with the history and culture. There are very few cities with so many layers of different influence. City with the Christian monuments dating from the 5th century which is a rarity, first University in a way from the 10th centrury or a place where cyrillic was invented , city where a letter from Saint Sofia from Leo from Ohrid started the schism and separated the West and East for ever now as we see, city that probably was also a sit and in control of the Rus (it is said that the Vladimir letter went to Ohrid when they were accepting the Christianity), then the Ottoman invasion with its consequences on the church and conversion of many churches into mosques... lucky that you are there. People are also very nice. Great place to live with its serenity
An excellent and informative video! Definitely learned something new today. Stellar music and drone shots once again. Big thanks to Zlatko for his valuable local insight.
I've heard that the people of Vevchani are very proud, and it shows. What a beautiful, clean village (err Republic lol), and it blows my mind that their carnival has been going on since the 6th Century. That must be some kind of record.
Thank you Alina for a very beautiful and informative video. This place is now on my travel bucket list. You have quickly become one of my (actually my favorite) travel vloggers. Keep on being your own special beautiful.
Hi Alina! I very much enjoyed your tour of the ‘independent’ municipality of Vevčani! Vevčani very much reminds me of the "Republic of Užupis" (Užupio Respublika), which is actually a unique neighborhood of Vilnius - the capital of Lithuania. In 1998, neighborhood residents declared the “Republic of Užupis”, along with its own flag, unofficial currency, President, cabinet of ministers, a constitution, and anthem. Bohemian Užupis is dotted with street murals and installations like a bronze angel, a riverbank mermaid sculpture, and the tongue-in-cheek constitution of the self-proclaimed “Republic of Užupis” mounted on wall plaques. Artists’ studios line narrow streets alongside local-designer boutiques, hip cafes, and global eateries. The “Republic of Vevčani” and the “Republic of Užupis” share the same unique spirit of creative ‘bohemian’ independence! Hopefully, you will experience this unique spirit again soon, when you visit the Baltics and Lithuania next year (ideally, during the summer season)! The “Republic of Vevčani” is indeed wonderful!!! Thanks for sharing, Alina!
Uzupis is way too lovely, well i am going to be honest, right now my favorite countries where to spend time like a local are North Macedonia and Lithuania. I just feel at home in those 2 countries. Cheers from Venezuela!
I didn't realize there was a small republic within the tiny country of Lithuania. I believe that Lithuania and Belarus and Ukraine and Poland should unite into one country like we were a few centuries ago We were once the largest country in Europe. My associations with Ukrainians is that Ukrainian women are such good communicators. Alina you are absolutely no exception.
How refreshing to see a travel blogger who actually has great technical skills. Really nice videography (and editing). Also nice that host shows locations rather than continuous stand up selfies. Bravo!
Hi Alina, I really like the old buildings in Vevcani and the church was amazing with the painted ceilings and artwork. It always is interesting to see old building as in Australia we were only settled in 1788 so not many structures here are older than a couple of hundred years old. I first saw many in Germany but nothing like today in Vevcani. The food also looked fantastic and fresh and defiantly it helps having a local to show you around. Great video!
Awesome experience going there and special thanks to Zlatko for his sharing with you and us. I know you always find these interesting places, but this is one of the tops. All the while I was watching this, I had the thought that there are many parts of a lot of countries that should be simple places like this. I think it presents something that should always be at the heart of a city and how to enjoy life the right way. Great video, Alina! You keep hitting the great ones, and we are in debt to you for you sharing and caring heart you always give to us. Cheers!
Good to see new tourist destinations, north Macedonia is new to me, great to see you promote new and obscure fun places to visit, good job Alina👍✌️❤️🇬🇧 much love
Hi Friend, thank you so much for introducing this hidden gem.We all heard about Macedonia but i hadn't heard about "Vevacani" before. What a charming place it is... oooh..... amazing. Thank you so much.
Very nice, Alina. Cozy city to raise little ones... Love the walk way with water stream/estuaries; a romantic evening would go great, along with the sun fading into darkness. The walkway lights dim enough to set the mood for a great evening. The food looks delicious; heart warming with local wines... a taste to reminisce about a beautiful destination. Thank you Slatka (Sorry if I spelled your name wrong), for sharing your city. As always, thank you beautiful. 👍👍🌾🌷
Wow 😳 I can’t believe it’s only 3,000 population in Vevcani and they are independent!!! So nice, clean and beautiful 🤩 Foods and Wine seem so delicious as well 🤤
It was kinda independent for a short period of time back in the 90s but it didn't last long. The residents consider themselves citizens of 🇲🇰 but in 2000, the 'republic' was classified as a micronation to promote tourism, and it seems to be working :)
Another excellent and interesting presentation from Alina. This place looks well worth a visit as well as being inexpensive. That deer was so so cute 💖.
@Bill O'Coy dude please learn some history!!! Macedonia is in Greece! Any newly formed Bulgarian speaking former Yugoslav nation that wants to steal Greek identity and names should be called something else. They are lucky they are even called Northern Macedonia at all. But MACEDONIA is Greek!
Your comment is absurd. Macedonian Greeks have existed in Macedonia IN Greece since ancient times!!! Just the fact that they accepted and settled more Greeks who were escaping Genocide in Turkey doesn’t make the region of Macedonia in Greece any less Greek...
So many places in Europe hasn't been discover by travelers yet. It's really interesting to see this kind of vlog that shows some places out there. I hope I can visit even one of them.
Hey Alina, you passed 80K subscribers! I just noticed that. Congratulations!!! I agree with David Ellis below, the area appears to have stopped in time, providing a great, live snapshot of history. It's believed the village of Vevčani was founded during the period from the end of the 6th century to the beginning of the 8th century (Wikipedia). I imagined certain areas with medieval residents walking the streets, bridges, drinking fresh river water, fishing and hunting in the surrounding forests. Absolutely stunning. As always, thank you and stay safe.
I live in India with many languages, cultures, with many diverse ways of living, I advocate decentralization for development and growth, vevchani is done, and doing is right, i support
Hoi, Alina, well done and another late comment from my hand due to biz reasons. Less flights, less passengers, but more issues!. Vevcani looks like a real special place, nice impressions, good work. Stay safe and healthy, please.
Great content! I love how you explore the eastern side of europe and show its hidden beauty as opposed to just going to the famous countries in northern (nordic/scandinavia) and western europe. I would love to see you travelling around the Caucasus region, which include the countries Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan & parts of southern Russia, and middle eastern countries - specifically Israel & Lebanon (I've researched these countries and it appears that they are the safest countries in the middle east for female travellers so that's cool.)
@@AlinaMcleod You obviously do your research really hard or maybe the places find you, I don’t know. I am looking for lists of countries that don’t exist in the map but I cannot find a exhaustive one because they keep coming and I even have one not far from where I live. There’s nothing wrong with groups of people creating their own countries and ethnicities and trust me it’s not new nor unusual we just don’t seem to pay attention to them.
Lovely place and amazing video. Thank you for sharing your day with us. I really like how you take your time to explore the places you visit, spend some time to feel the real pulse and rhythm of local life. So much better that just rushing through and just skimming the surface like some travel vloggers. Never considered visiting Macedonia before but might be something to consider down the road. Cheers
Thank you! I know some travel youtubers can get a feel for a place quickly and be able to produce good content in a couple weeks to summarize, but I find I need AT LEAST a month lol.
@@AlinaMcleod Sounds great and that is exactly what I meant. You try to do things in a way that will not burn you out and make travelling not so enjoyable. Looking forward to watch your future travels and videos :)
Zlatko seems so nice and you guys looked so cute together! Not sure what his relationship status is but you just look like a perfect match! I loved everything about this video!😀
Lovely quaint village. The food looked amazing! Had to look closer to figure out what was hanging down beneath the roof overhang in those sacks at 6:37 of the video. Is probably corn and is used for winter animal feed. Keep the great content coming!
Seems that the inhabitants of this region value two things the most. The first is independence. And the second is peacocks 😄 Well, passport is a quite original souvenir idea. Considering its local name and the image of the grapevine on the cover, the Russian expression "выпивать на посошок" (drink the parting cup) sparkled with new colors, You know ✨ 😁 Btw, hope the covid isn`t such an important event for them. It will be boring if everyone comes to the next carnival wearing the same masks 😅 Very picturesque and peaceful area with a very nice "Mountain Flower" kindergarten/primary school and cozy, also just some kind of mountain St. Nicholas сhurch. So beautiful decoration and that blanket from Shiroka Laka village makes it even cozier 🤗 An interesting narthex, I guess, and candlesticks with water, never seen anything like this before. Special thanks for showing us these wonderful spiritual places 💙 And I thank Zlatko for helping You with this. It looks like he is one of those about whom we say "скромность украшает человека" (modesty adorns a person).
