So few comments about this man - this god of a voice! How shameful it is to realise just how unappreciated he is. I hope, as time goes by, Corelli's voice will shine in the hearts of many more. To achieve this, we must educate our children to appreciate what is so very special.
Unappreciated by who? During his time from 1961 to 1976 at the Met, Corelli was known as Prince of Tenors and Mr. Soldout. Lanza, Bjorling, Pav and Corelli may be the most listened to tenors on You Tube.
@@sugarbist I'm referring to educating the masses, such as the new generation, to appreciate such a voice. I took my 15 year old son on a 6 hour road trip, playing Corelli for much of the time. By the end of our trip my son's life was forever changed. No longer Heavy Metal, but just Corelli. As for Lanza, he was much loved with a great voice, but he was an indulgent and sloppy opera singer with very little discipline.
@@sdi1111 It's wonderful that you were able to influence your son in such a way. I also feel that Lanza falls short in some of the Italian arias, but his so called American songs are truly beautiful. Young Di Stefano was very beautiful. Try his Ah Non Credevi Tu and Addio Mignon. Enjoy and thanks
Here, in chronological order, are my top ten tenors: Jean De Reszke Francisco Vin'as Ivan Yershov Jacques Urlus Enrico Caruso Paul Franz Lauritz Melchior Richard Tauber Franco Corelli Jon Vickers
Recording and microphone technology was already very good in the 50s, actually. When you're hearing bad recordings, it's because it was just recorded poorly, or played back with inferior equipment. I have recordings from the late 50s and early 60's that are amazingly crisp and transparent.
Corelli had the biggest voice on high notes. He was the only one who could sing next to Brigit Nilsson. She said that he had the most powerful upper register notes of any singer. Coming from her that is something. He could also sing high C notes which Del Monaco and Tucker couldn't do. Not that high notes is everything but it is impressive for such a big voice.
@@魚-c3d Yes, User- size of voice is not everything, but it is questionable that Corelli was superior technically than MDM. Tucker had a great high B, but all 3 tenor voices could fill any opera house. I would have to say that all 3 tenors were amazing at times, and we shouldn't search for who was better. Tucker was a terrific singer with the ability to perform across a wider variety of roles successfully. Corelli had the warmth and captivating ability in becoming intimate with his listeners. Del Monaco was a show stopper and knew what the public loved. Regardless of our favorites, all three tenors were Titans of the operatic stage.
Tucker is NOT my favorite, but he was not 2nd best to anyone. His was the type of voice that had to be heard live to be fully appreciated. Rosa Ponselle: After seeing Richard Tucker live, Rosa Ponselle stated that anyone who owns a Tucker record should take it back to the store for a refund, because his voice is much more beautiful in person. Renata Tebaldi: Richard Tucker sounds like he has flowers in his throat. Lauri Volpi stated that Tucker had a Caruso type voice. To be shallow, and quoting Richard Tucker, ''If I had Franco's looks, they would be carry me on their shoulders.''
Prince of tenors
Live wow! Bjorling and Corelli are my two favorites
The best Calaf ever.

Huge huge voice and upper register
Thrilling.
fearless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my favourite tenors.💚💎🌟
Immensa Voce, chiara penetrante , GRANDE CORELLI. 🌹💎
There is no doubt that Corelli has been the finest EVER Calaf. And you can add Andrea Chenier to that as well.
I think he set the bar (becoming the reference as the best for the role) for Calaf, Radames, Cavaradossi and Don Alvaro
Un Dio sceso in terra. 💖

My favorite tenor. Hands down.
El mejor tenor de todos los tiempos...

Typing error: Lanza in The Student Prince was when he peaked - "I'll walk with God" and "Serenade" are flawless and beautiful.
Meraviglioso, quanto ci manca!
The sound quality here is really good. Thanks for posting this
One of the best forever
One of the best !!! And all this without microphones ))) not like these days )))
He is the best
Viva Franco Corelli! Viva Giacomo Puccini! Viva l'Opera Italiana! 🇮🇹

IL MAESTRO DEGLI MAESTRI.
How is the recording of this oerformance so crisp compared to most others from this time period
Perhaps it was remastered?

great tenor at his prime thought tucker had bigger voice saw both live phila academy music but corelli stll big voice
Del Monaco had a bigger voice than both of them.
@@xxsaruman82xx87 nobody asked for del Monaco? Size of voice isn't everything and Corelli was still technically superior imo.

it's not 1960s.
this voice is 1970s later.....
whats going on?

Irragiungibile.
I’m beginning to think he’s the second best
……a little bit like Richard Tucker
Better, IMO
@@xxsaruman82xx87 Much better...Corelli tenore più completo
