In Indian classical music, the word 'best' can never be used in time. Nothing is ultimate. Too many legends came, gone, new are coming, they all have their own style of playing, and the listners have their choice of hearing. So no one is best, they are are devotees, to the music which paves the path to the divine.

As far as Patedeep is concerned, absolutely. This rendition is reminds the patdeep of Nikhilda. Although Nikhilda's patdeep is beyond comparision; then also.
While recovering from surgery I listened to Kushal Das’s rendition of Jaunpuri yesterday and Patdeep today- both are astounding performances. A worthy successor to Nikhil Banerjee

This is the first time I've heard Raga Patdeep and I am deeply impressed with how soulful and dramatic this raga is. Now I want to hear it in the hands of other masters, just to glean some of the other facets of this raga.

Were well said! How can the creator create or a performer perform, if there is no-one to know how to appreciate their true genius. Clearly the audience rose up to the great master's level. This very dynamic pushed both the performer and the audience to higher and higher levels of bliss. Blessed be. Sad Guru.
I have listened such fine Patdeep after I listened to late ustad latafat Hussain Khan years ago

Although in my opinion no one compares to the late Nikhil Banerjee, Kushal Das is the one who, for me at least, comes closest to expressing the deep spirituality that was the hallmark of Banerjee’s style. Others have commented on his leisurely exposition here, but as any sophisticated musician knows, it takes supreme artistry to play slowly but with such intensity and control. This is something Banerjee also did, but the lesser artists cannot do. They are merely loud, or fast, or brutish. I am grateful he is performing in our lifetimes.
That's a nice sounding sitar. _Really_ nice. On another note, what's he doing there at 5:44? And what's that little piece he's touching?
He is microtuning to make sure the pitch is perfect - the sitar tuning pegs are quite large and stiff so they are suitable for large tunings but to quickly tune a tiny amount to get the string in pitch the small sliding pegs are used.
