    Brilliant choices for your Bonds collection! 90’s innovation is king!

      Thanks, Nate! It’s tough to limit the greatness of a player like Bonds to just a handful of cards, but I can’t allow my collection to take over rooms in my house 😂. Maybe I should get a man cave like you!

    Hi Bri,
    It’s amazing to think about this collection when anything you “pulled” from a pack was done by a child under 10 years old! Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Love, Mom

      @HighPopProfessor  9 дней назад

      Hah! That’s a fair point, mom! Hey, even when I was 7-8 years old I was VERY careful when it came to condition of my cards! It was almost to the point of becoming a little obsessive! We wouldn’t know anything about being obsessive when it comes to baseball cards though, right??? 😅😅😅

    Great job High Pop. It never gets old for me to see Barry Bonds cards from our early collecting days. It brings back memories. You have a nice assortment of Barry Bonds cards and I’m glad you included those error cards which I love. I’m also glad that you are able to sell your high graded cards in order to advance your collection. That is really smart.
    Love, Dad

      Thanks, dad! Those errors are so cool and in most cases pretty tough to find! I know the demand / market for them might not be super high, but like you, I find them to be fascinating and awesome! Plus, they’re super rare, so if demand ever does pick up even a little bit, their value could also rise significantly.
      These beauties absolutely bring back memories of going to card shows together with Al and opening packs in the back seat on the way home! And then there were the EPIC trading sessions when we got back home! Those were the days!! 🥲

    I only own one Bonds rookie and that is the 1987 Topps , that was the chase card for us kids growing up ! Want to get the 86 traded from Topps eventually. Good memories going to Three Rivers Stadium and watching games !!!

    • @HighPopProfessor
      @HighPopProfessor  9 дней назад +1

      Yes, Three Rivers Stadium has some amazing memories attached to it! I always thought of the 87 Topps as being his “real” rookie, because it didn’t seem fair that the 86 couldn’t be pulled from a pack. As a young kid, I was more likely to be able to afford a $0.50 pack than a $15 traded set - even if I knew the Bonds was guaranteed to be in there! 😂
      Thanks for watching and commenting, Sven!

    Remarkable Bonds cards - the receipt for the Johnny Ray card is hilariously amazing. All the cards are gorgeous, well done High Pop!

      Thanks, Mookie! Yeah, the old 90s style web page printed out in color ink is the icing on the cake! 😂
      That takes me back to a time when Netscape Navigator was the default browser at school, and the computer lab teachers had to tape the bottoms of the mouses to keep kids from throwing around the mouse balls. 🤣

    So cool to see your legacy collection of Bonds following your father’s footsteps! It’s awesome to have that “provenance” with the Johnny Ray. Man the 90s had so many great inserts and parallels! Absolutely love that ‘93 Finest! It doesn’t get much more iconic than that set! So many amazing cards Brian!

    • @HighPopProfessor
      @HighPopProfessor  9 дней назад

      That Johnny Ray was sold pretty soon after it was graded, but yes, the 90s era webpage printout is its own relic! 😂 I agree 💯 about the 90s having crazy awesome inserts, parallels, and innovation! It’s why I started this channel! 😃 I do like having a small collection of guys like Bonds and Griffey in addition to Maddux so that when there are insert sets like “Home Run Kings” and “Long Ball Leaders” that would never feature my main man Maddux, I can still get cards of players from those sets that will still fit well into my collection. And yes, the 93 Finest cards will never NOT be incredible! Thanks for watching and commenting, Joe!

      Oh, yeah! Some specific 90s technology is just incredible! Refractors, Dufex, die-cuts, acetate, wooden cards, early numbered elites!! Oh, MAN! That stuff gets me going!! Thanks for watching and commenting, Billy!

    Wow! Amazing collection thanks for sharing! It’s too bad he and McGwire and Sosa won’t get into the hall of fame. I really enjoyed their run to break Roger Maris record! I hope you have a great day!!

    • @HighPopProfessor
      @HighPopProfessor  9 дней назад +1

      The home run chase of 1998 was probably the best thing that could have happened following the 94 strike to help rejuvenate baseball’s popularity. McGwire and Sosa were LEGENDS. Larger than life figures! The hall of fame may not ever recognize their greatness, but I also don’t think that the story of baseball can be told without their inclusion. I can’t respect an institution that doesn’t include Bonds, Clemens, Arod, and Rose, when they simultaneously admit positive PED poppers Pudge and Big Papi with open arms. It’s hypocrisy. The biggest tell that the HOF has no consistency or standards, and that it’s all just a big popularity contest:
      Curt Schilling.
      The dude’s an 80 WAR pitcher with postseason success (lest we forget the bloody sock game). The hall should have nothing to do with a player’s unpopular political views, or whether they were a jerk. I understand that Gary Sheffield may have been a jerk, but to not include him and even other worthy PED guys like Palmiero and all the aforementioned players seems wrong. Maybe I should make a video about this…

    Great showcase of Barry Bonds. My favorite is obviously the 93 finest, but all are great.
