- Cab ride in Mack Titan V8.
New and old Superliners, Mack Titans, 3 and 4 trailer road trains.
The clips of Eddy Holland in his new Superliner and Wayne Betts in his Titan were at the Pillara mine near Fitzroy Crossing in W.A.
The Shell double B-double was at Renner Springs N.T.
The blue and white Mack Titan triple was at Mt Magnet and Kewdale W.A.
The white Valueliner at Kanmantoo S.A. - Авто/Мото
Who needs a stereo when you have those v8’s to listen to 😍😍
Love the howling sound of the Mack air-starter.
Man, it's been a long time since I've heard an "air starter" truck here in the States! That was cool!
First time I heard an air start was the mad max movie
Hands down my fav truck! When I started hauling scrap metal hitting the 125k lbs + I never looked back.
I was a mechanic at Cummins Ontario in Toronto in the 70s but I tell you I just love those Mack V-8s.
remember mad Max road warrior? it had a nasty bad to the Bone r model mack . mack truck rule
Mighty Mack's engine sound is honey for my ears.
I love the sound of the start. I remeber every time my father started the truck people around us just jumped up of fear. Thank you for bringing lot of memories back.
air start...a wonderful way of scaring the crap out of unsuspecting people...lol
Saw a guy leap three feet off the ground once when I was driving bauxite haul trucks
Yes, air start. Macks used to be 100% air start in Australia. You can still option air start on heavy-duty Kenworth.
Thees down under big rigs are freaking bad ass very cool!
4:25 .. .sounds like an impact wrench :-) Great dogs ... V8 rules ! Greetings from south Germany
Nice '89 Superliner. Drove same thing ('91) for a while. Can't beat the sound and performance of the old V8.
I first saw a Mack after the war. They were N.R. 10's and were used in the timber industry. They were the greatest and carried this country for many years. Most were supplied by L.J.Gleeson of Wingham N.S.W. He used them to excavate the Inner Harbour Port Kembla. Probably the best collection of N.R.'s are at Cleary Bros. Port Kembla. They were the most.
Man that Silver Titan Sounded Tough ,a true Mack!
And the Titan!!! v-8 what a machine!
Can't beat the Australian Mack's. Beautiful tractors. Mack North America has seen better days. Nobody wants to run them anymore.
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing, and greets from the other side of the globe, the Netherlands.
Cheers, yeah, most trucks on long haul in the top end hold 1500 - 2500 liters plus sometimes a trailer belly tank of another 1000. Mainly because fuel is so expensive once you leave the city and with 3 trailers @ 120 tonnes gross you will only get about 1 km/liter which is 2.3 miles per US gallon.
That mack truck starting sounded like the the mack truck on mad max, road warriors movie
Air starters are nostalgic
Yes we are busy at the moment, haven't had much time to upload new videos, but I've taken plenty of footage so I will upload soon. Anyone from Europe would be amazed at our triple trailer roadtrains in real life.
Most of the road trains use a German-made 50mm Ringfeder coupling between the dollies and trailers, and a 2" or 3.5" Jost or Holland turntable on the truck/dolly.

Gorgeous trucks
Can I get a temperary license so I can come over and play a bit..HAHAHA..Great vid, keep um coming
them air fead starter motors. What a fine signature for a mack.Love it! God the E9's are sexy.
Sweet vids pard!
Nice shot in the titan v8 on Abernathy rd going past CBH,best sound of the v8 macks
Gotta love V8s!
Some real bad-ass lookin rigs you guys run down under.
the last mack got some mad max style hahah
Beautiful - " Macks Road Train ". Great video.
those are real beasts of the road!!
Man seeing all these awesome Road-Trains, i wanna become a driver in Australia...👍👍👍👍
I use 2" double-row Jost ball-race turntables. They generally use 3.5" on triples and quads. The Ringfeder couplings on the dollys are all 50 mm though.
Now this is trucking! Awesome video.
air start sounds perfect
0:27 looks so awesome!
Im pretty happy and lucky i certainly own a 99 mack trident loving life...
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I like the road train set up a lot of skilled drivers there! Over here in the US it's a fuckin miracle if the glorified steering wheel holders here can manage 1 trailer!
It’s because in Australia there’s no driver shortage. Companies can hire the most skilled drivers or they can train the rookies very well.
@@982berti there is no driver shortage here it's just anyone with experience and a brain owns there own trucks.. if there is a shortage it's with the big companies because they don't want to pay anything
It's crazy to see such convoy
The white mack in the end of video I have owned for 12 months, bought it of "chops" in adelaide....Been the best truck I have ever owned....Still runs interstate, doing real trucker work!!!!
@gm16v149 you are probably right about that... i haven't been to my local mack dealer since i changed employers (i had a really nice CH that was serviced by mack, mostly at beresfield but also in bris. until it caught fire and burnt to the rims...). so i dont know all the latest info... the volvo/mack amalgamation sounds like its progressing nicely...
Nothin sounds like E9/EM9, they are at there best pulling heavy, nice video :)
Great video, I'd love to come over there.
BEAST MODE
Excellent vid!! Great Mack trucks, love the air starters!
Keep up the great work my friend :)
nice E9 on the 2nd clip
Great video!!
@CreRay Yes that's my truck at 0.45.
The 4 trailer, 22 axle (86 wheels) road trains are the most common roadtrain for Shell & BP fuel in the N.T. They are a B-train + 2 trailers and 2 dollies.
The one in the vid is 2 B-trains joined with 1 dolly, so it's smaller than normal.
The trucks are tri-drive (3 diffs).
Now those are some real trucks.
These trucks look and sound awesome. If I ever visit Australia I would skip the Sydney Opera House for a ride in the prime mover of a road train! (Still want to climb the harbor bridge, mind you!)
Superb video!!!
they must be glad to have a great job like that
My kinda video Chris, great work mate !!
that red superliner was awesome
Great job there! Oh and a great day to all of you reading this! :)
thanks
k' lpu ko
Some road trains in Australia push the gross mass to 150, sometimes more tonnes. The longest ones are in Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia, where up to four trailers are allowed on public highways. Three of those trailers are usually full length, with a fourth half length
You guys down under rock. I've been in the trucking world for over 40 years the USA sucks am moving to the real people are
No doubt! Makes the American trucks look like child's play!
Great stuff, you guys in Australia move some big loads, would love to see what them D.O.T. guys would say if they saw those on the interstate over here in the states, lol. wonder if they'd pull out those lil portable scales, lol. keep'em coming!
Nice vid mate!
They helps stop stone chips in the windshield. Road trains going the other way kick up plenty if they drop off the edge, some of them have got 4 trailers with 86 wheels.
@CreRay That one would go about 145 tonnes with 6 tri-axle groups but most of the fuel tankers up there run 7 tri-axle groups which gross out at about 170 tonnes.
BTW the engine you can hear is the Mack E9 V8 in the blue & white Titan.
Great work and superb trucks Great video Greetings from Belgium P
There are more cubes in a V8 than a six, and as they say there is no substitute for cubic inches.
Eddie liner!! you legend!
Very nice video!!
Great video very nice trucks like see some more videos like that.
nice videos love it
Gotta love the sound of a turbo diesel v8
@statusmaximus Thanks for watching
@atmbcool Macks had them as standard in Australia up to a few years ago, they are more robust than electric but you've got to maintain them.
They look so much bad ass than the Macks in USA,, how they arrange the fuel tanks wild bars looks so much cooler
Chris you are the man. This vid is the bulldogs dangalies. Keep them turbos whistleing.
@kennjohnsen we dont generally run big sleepers over here due to length restrictions. the lengths are as follows - single trailer 19 m (62.3 ft), 2 trailer 36.5 m (120 ft) and 3 trailer 53.5 m (176 ft). These are all maximum allowable lengths. If we ran large U.S. style sleepers we would need to use shorter trailers to meet the requirements.
It used to be Kenworths you saw the most of in Australia, but that's changing. Freightliners and Western Stars are growing in numbers. There are some Macks around, but they're not the commonest make. Even euro trucks such as Volvos are getting a bigger toehold on the market here
@cat977loader They've got portables over here too, but the full size quads have got 22 axles so they're not that keen to use them, especially if it's 120 deg outside lol. The Shell tanker in the vid is a "double B-Double" so it's only got 19 axles. Usually Shell and BP run 22 axles up there.
now this was a great video
Very interesting!!!
@LeMagnum440 How would you be driving that Shell roadtrain down the M1, turn heads say what?
@kennjohnsen We generally use 45' trailers but fuel trailers are shorter, as long as max length of road train is 53.5 meter max.
thats a nice video i love roadtrains
@zandmannetje390 No, they've been in Australia for generations as far as I know.
Awesome vid!!
While the new stuff is great it does pale a little compared to the old Superliner at the end :-)
Also nice that u finished with a local Adelaide Valueliner lol
those air starters sound awesome, they don't do so well in the cold, but i would definitely bring one of these trucks to the USA.
good stuff chris
thanks for the great video !
I did note that the steering wheel is on the wrong side :)
I love the air start it sounds great. We have a few air starts here in the US.
I saw that you carry a LOT of fuel i guess it is due to the great distance you have to drive.
Anyway just wanted to say hey from a fellow driver here in the US.
Not sure what you mean. We reverse one trailer onto the next one and then reverse two trailers to the third trailer. Later I will make a video to show how we do it.
The old V8 Macks had up to 610 HP but they don't make V8s any more. The new Macks have either a Cummins Signature or a Volvo-derived engine, both of which can be over 600 HP.
A 3 trailer road train is 53.5 metres long max and a 2 trailer road train is 36.5 metres max.
Highway trucks these days usually have 10 stud alloys, but roadtrain trucks and trailers still often use spider type wheels because it is easier for changing tyres. Probably overall 50/50 spider/10stud in new trucks/trailers.
RIP to Eddie Holland
@mymate69 Yeah I've seen it, we helped his driver fix a fuel problem when it broke down a few years ago near Wauchope NT
@dingus8888 Thanks glad you like it. Shame they don't make a V8 anymore.
I'm not sure, although you can have one made to whatever size you want. A friend of mine has a 100" sleeper on a WA registered KW but the prime mover is too long for the Eastern States.
@huppypuppy It is a 6 cylinder Mack engine, I think on that model they were Renault derivatives but not sure on that.
I wish Revell would do a 1/24th scale kit of a Mack Titan with both left and right hand steer option.
+Jazzsoul 60 Nearest I've seen of an Australian road train so far is by Italieri. It was a Kenworth short hood, but had all the detais of a truck that pulls road trains, bar the trailers themselves
American conventional truck by Italeri.
Correction: A RIGHT HAND DRIVE truck with all the equipment you'd find on an Australian road train truck; bull bar, ROAD TRAIN signs, local numberplate, and the tail light setup of a local truck.
@gm16v149 I hope to watch soon from you other excellent videos about roadtrains!!!
Greetings from Italy!
Many thanks for prompt answer.
Regards,
jamesie.
Inline sixes are the most popular in Australia just like America, but there are still a lot of V8 Macks around (and the odd V8 Cat)
Thanks for the reply. Is there any advantage at all of a v8 vs. a i6? It seems you see more of the v8's down there though. Just my observation though.
