I gotta say, I love Optifine, but it doesn’t work with every modpack. It replaces some of Minecraft’s code that other mods, like the Twilight Forest, need.

I'd argue that the best mod is fabric / forge API, since many mods require it, and it is very convenient for mod makers. this mod not only serves as a middle ground for all the genres, since almost all require it, but also doesn't fit in any of them, making it truly in the middle

essential lets you zoom and play with friends for free on java ( it works like bedrock). also you can change your skin whenever you go to your menu or are are in the main menu. also supplementary and supplementary squared are both good mods adding some items that can be useful or good decor.

Sodium works much better on more recent versions and if you have a nvidia graphics card, you can use nvidium to bosst performance by a lot.

It is all very very smooth and fun. For example there are several different kinds of dwarves and elves and stuff, goblins, orcs, trolls, lion, boar(rideable), rhino(rideable), flamingoes and giant spiders. It is just the best, it also runs pretty well and works with a ton of mods.
I think the create one is one of the best, maybe not the mod itself, but with addons like aeronautics and clockwork on the horizon, its epic.

Optifine has too many problems with compatibility in the recent versions. I just switched to Rubidium and Oculus today and so far it's solved all my Optifine-Incompatibility problems.

I always used Optfine in the past, but only recently I realized it was the reason why my game crashed while using some mods. It hurts to say it since I played so much with optifine, but imo is not the best mod

OptiFine is closed source. It is known to have serious conflicts with other mods. Minecraft provides enough settings to optimize your experience on any potato pc. The zoom and shaders are nice though
