    Some engines, if you keep trimming down om the kickstand you will break it. Merc ams for example

      Bigger mercury engines only have one big ram as the til and trim. I’ve only ever had these engines, and didn’t even know other engines like this Yamaha in the video had rams for trim and separate for tilt. Wouldn’t they have separate controls for each?

      @@00ninja00 No its the same motor, theres a pressure valve for the two sets of rams. So its doesnt really matter

    Hello I am yamaha/mercury technician. Those tabs are for working on the trim to lock it in place when a ram is removed. They will break off

    Never leave the engine resting on the service bracket continuously, it puts too much stress on the drive. They sell a chrome tube that slips over the trim ram rods, rest the engine on that instead.

      No doubt I thought it was done once it was making all that racket.....thought the weight of the outboard helped push those rams in.....the stuff we learn on the daily

      I'm a certified yamaha and mercury mechanic. They actually tell you to do this at school. Doesn't hurt a thing.

      @@pickledcottoncandy I was looking for one comment by someone like you who could speak with confidence. The reason is, I was wondering what kind of negative pressure is being placed on the main ram when he locked the out drive up, but continued push the down switch.

      @@Joseph-wp2ry there is a pressure relief valve, so no harm is done. Same I'd you keep trimming after the engine is all the way down, it won't hurt anything because it relieves the pressure.

    Another good tip is to place one of those foam style beer Koozies over the trim motor housing if it not a plastic housing also apply some grease on it before covering. My commercial boat sits on the saltwater inter coastal in Florida 9 months a year and is still on the same trim motor that is 14 years old.

    DO NOT use that latch to hold motor up while trailering it’ll bust that latch right off its only for maintenance

    We had a 94 Yamaha 150 that had that lock, that was the standard procedure. The tilt piston would also retract, not just the trim pistons.

    The rams are more than likely 316 stainless. Not likely to have any issues other than dirt but if you're leaving your boat that long without use, you probably shouldn't have one.

    I’m an outboard mechanic. This IS NOT a good idea! Damage to your outboard will occur. Best to lower your engine while in water so the secondaries are retracted into their housings.

      Why would I lower the engine into the water? Will be covered with Barnacles in a week

    FYI that support bracket is for maintenance and storage, not for transport, like most people use it..

      He'll be your friend and work on your boat for about $250/Hr., but if you are from New York, New Jersey or Boston he will give you a deal and charge you only $550.00/Hr.

    This guy should be making shorts on how to get air out of your power trim system and then make another short on how to fill your power trim. Because he needs to do both! His pump is screaming for help!!

    Love your channel. There are no videos on the internet showing someone replacing the hub on a Suzuki Water Grip prop. You're supposed to be able to do it on the water.

    Keep the rods lubed, those kick stands are just a backup and is soft af, they'll snap through the first pothole

    Yamah makes a specific tool for that called Yamaha ram tilt transom saver for that very reason, works great for towing as well it is a little spendy tho. 😎🤙🏽🙏🏽

    The kickstand is only meant for motor maintenance only.
    not ment to hold the motor weight for long period of time not like a transom saver bar

      If you didn't know there was a locking lever on your outdrive, you shouldn't be boating... No offense intended but every captain should know that

      @@ellsworth1984 I’m afraid you 1000% missed the concept behind this one. You’re correct about the motor lock. You likely don’t have much business on a boat or certain aren’t very familiar with your rig if you don’t know about the lock. However that is absolutely NOT what this clip is about nor a reflection of my response. Watch it again. This tip showed you that if you continue down on your trim it will retract your lower trim rams, the idea keeping them protected from the elements while the boat is not in use. It’s a really good tip and I’ve been on the water for nearly 40 years and have never seen this. Hope it serves you well.

    Check your manual first. My 2 stroke mercury says specific in the manual in big bold letters NOT to drive with that kick stand supporting the motor. Not sure why but I’ll trust the manual.

    Is there a way to lower those to rams in manually? I know how to do the main ram with the screw, but not those two.

      i put 1 of those round green lites on my transum on my 20ft bay boat and it aluminates really well so i can see whats around the motor and behind me..

    Not on mercy, don't do this on merc integral trims, blows the valves internally. This applies to omc and yamaha

    Need help brotha! My engine trim and tilt stopped working. It was slowly leaking fluid the end last season and I would fill again and be fine. I put away for the winter motor trimmed all way down. What do I do? Is there a screw on the side to Manually put the engine up or down? 2004 200hp yamaha ox66

      Release pressure then use a forklift with strap to lift the engine up. Lock it in the UP position. Then add ATF or Trim fluid into reservoir. Find out where leak is. Probably from piston end caps. Replace seals. You'll need a Spanner tool to remove the caps. There's a few videos on here that show how to do this.

    Put a dab of grease around top of each ram and run them down. The grease will get pushed up and protect the last few mm around the seal

      Nothing :( just make sure you spray it off with fresh water after you use the boat :)

    just replaced a warranty trim ram on a mercury 150. i don't recommend it. take care of them because they are a *bad word* to change😂

    About the seats....it depends on what's on them ....the seats are plastic so use some 100percent bleach and a good stiff brittle brush then rinse and repeat with strong soap and bleach solution....

    You should always suck those in when the boat is parked whether in the water or not. Especially when trailering, just to keep the engine from bouncing

      Because the trim is meant to trim the engine down hydraulically. If you lock the engine in place and force the down button do you think all the internals just take a break???? Lol now they’re working even harder to bring the engine down but they will never accomplish it. You’ll end up breaking parts like seals and what not

    Maybe if you want oil sitting in your cylinders. Those are only meant for servicing your hydraulics.

    Get q boat lift or pull the boat out and store on the trailer with a transom saver bar. I would not want all that weight sitting like that with waves coming through the marina on a busy day holiday weekend that's stressing the transom if it be in the water or on a lift the motor straight down is the best for the boat

    You hit a big pot hole and that kickstand kicks out and your motor hits the pavement!!! Keep your rams extended plus kickstand.

    Definitely don't haul it with that little kick stand down that kick stand is made for maintenance not to haul your boat around on the stand

    I have a brand new Suzuki the dealer first think he told me was never do that you will destroy your tilt. Do what you want but I will not be trying this
