  • Sasquatches: They're just like us! They eat, they love, they cling to each other for community. That's the point of "Sasquatch Sunset," the latest indie curiosity from the filmmaking Zellner brothers, David and Nathan; David also wrote the script and Nathan also co-stars. Riley Keough and Jesse Eisenberg lead the pack in this darkly comic drama that's entirely wordless. Along with co-star Christophe Zajac-Denek, they're dressed head-to-toe in furry body suits and heavy prosthetic makeup to play a family of Bigfoots (Bigfeet?) wandering through the forests of the Pacific Northwest. Now showing in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Austin; opening nationwide April 19. Click here to see if it's playing near you: bleeckerstreetmedia.com/sasqu...

“Sasquatch Sunset” sounds like a fake indie movie that’s a joke within a Hollywood satire
I will check it out when it’s eventually accessible to me tho 😉

In this movie world of retreads, originality is so great to see. Eisenberg always picks interesting roles and one that got buried is "The Double", so watch that as well everyone!!

I'm not sure I've felt so differently from critics in my existence. I found this movie to endlessly keep me guessing, as I never knew where it was headed, as well as relentlessly hilarious.
The scene where they discover the road and look 3 separate times at the 2 sides of the road, as well as the subsequent and ...passionate...marking of territory...phenomenally hilarious.

Hey, Christy and Alonso! Sounds reminiscent of 1981's "Quest For Fire" by Jean-Jacques Annaud and 1988's "Missing Link" by Carol and David Hughes!

    • @keng4847
      @keng4847 Месяц назад +1

The characters just grunted to communicate in "Quest for Fire" but it did have something of an actual plot/storyline and some action and tension and a sense of adventure as the characters were on a very specific, dangerous quest. And it was a vivid, stark, powerful vision of what life was like for prehistoric people, that felt believable It wasn't just the camera following mythological creatures wander around or go through their daily routine, which is what this largely sounds like.
I haven't seen "Missing link" so I can't speak on it.

I too thought about Quest for Fire as a parallel... that movie is cool & is worthy of rewatching...& it has cannibalism which I don't think this one has

I’m sorry, y’all but this could not sound like a more painful time. I’m glad you both enjoyed it, to varying degrees but I’m definitely glad I watched this review before seeing it blind in theaters. This does kind of feel like the short film in the mix when you go see the Oscar shorts, where you admire the concept but you’re kind of exasperated by it afterwards.

I'm wondering if the ending is a tie in to the famous Patterson Gimlin film from 67 where it is supposedly a female Sasquatch and shot in bluff Creek in Willow Creek which what the building sign says at the end.

I sort of think many are missing the point of the movie / project, may be wrong but I think in the world of flash bang action and overtly dramatic films, this movie forces you to think and watch and have an opinion, writing your own dialogue in your imagination. I believe we've been so used to having everything put right in our faces and explained for us that this kind of film baffles us.

What I love about no dialogue movies, is that each person sees a completely different movie. All subtextual storylines the viewer is actively writing. The only part I didn't care for was the human part. But I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Sounds interesting. Does this fall in the realm of camp? From your description it sounds like it. I love going to the theater for a campy movie with lowbrow humor and hearing some dude rolling on the floor laughing.

    • @BreakfastAllDay

Although there is humor in the film you’re missing the whole concept of the movie …❤ the poop and the reason they defecated so profusely on the road was because it was a completely new territory and just like dog they defecate or piss on something that’s new or they want to mark this territory as there’s . Also when Riley smelled her vagina she smelling a different scent that she’s smelling pregnancy and making everybody snell her vaginal scent is how she informs the others that she is pregnant . Those who spend little time in nature really will not be able to read these hidden messages from those people who do
… I think for people who spend a lot of time in the woods. This is a great film. I walked in there, thinking I would absolutely hate it but because I’m an Elvis fan and I support the Presley family, I decided to take a chance at it and surprisingly enjoyed it. However, this is not for everyone . If you’re an avid hiker with, and a lot of time in the woods, you’ll get the film and personally it was brilliantly done

This looks like a fake, pretentious movie trailer that would appear before Tropic Thunder:
The man with the monotone Moviephone Trailer voice: "Like the sunsets, they were here first. And they will be here last. Like the sunsets, they will live eternal. They are Sasquii. Sasquatch Sunset."

I thought this was from Ari Aster or from his production company?
The trailer turned me off, and Alonso’s recap confirmed it even with his positive review. Easy pass for me.
