LOVE the rare instances in which you guys don't agree, it's fun, and of course, as adults and professionals, you're always respectful of each other's opinions.
Will very likely be another Dwayne Johnson big budget flop but will probably be forgotten quickly as Moana 2 opens just 2wks later! Chris Evans started his post MCU career very well with Knives Out & Defending Jacob, then did The Gray Man, Ghosted, Pain Hustlers & Red One, what happened?!
Well, good thing out of this movie is that immediately after this movie wrapped, Chris Evans deleted all the picture with the Rock in his instagram and filmed back to back three A24/Indie movies lol So I believe somehow filming this movie was his last straw lol
I found the first hour of Red One watchable and even enjoyable, but the second hour of the film is so stupid, so idiotic that blew it all ! It is a one time watch for me. That is all. Thank you for your review, guys.
Why does no one ever discuss Kasdan’s first film, ZERO EFFECT? It seems forgotten but that’s (imo) his best film. It’s, like, genuinely a seriously good movie.
Captain America is not boring. He is virtuous, brave, honest, earnest, intelligent and all of the other things a hero should be. The idea that he's boring is the reason why Marvel is crashing. The people behind telling the stories don't know what they have in their possession.
I am still, and perhaps eternally, completely astounded that a $250 million movie could look this bad. The CGI was atrocious for 90% of the film, the visual tone of the movie was as dark and dreary as Christy said, and the editing was bad too. I don't know who is to blame for the awful effects, whether it's the effects houses themselves, or the producers who said "good job!" to them. The movie did have some interesting ideas about the machinery of Santa's operation, and i did like the scene towards the end that showed exactly how Santa Claus gets the presents to everyone globally, but outside of a couple of entertaining scenes, this was a big ol' stinker.
"this movie is 2 hours long....." BINGO! I'm done, thank you Christy, that's my priorities. Cut it down to less than 90 minutes and maybe you won't get people say "hey remember the opening to Scrooged?" BUT MORE IMPORTANT, JK Simons already did a Jacked Santa.... it was called Klaus, done by a Spanish animation company, AND IT'S GREAT!
Another mixed review…what to do, what to do??? Between this and Hot Frosty (is that the right name?) , Ftosty is more my type of movie but I like Chris Evans, Lucy Liu & J.K. Simmons a lot more than the other cast. IDK, maybe a double feature? Maybe I’ll flip a coin.🎅🏻🎄♥️
Just got back from seeing this...I agree with Christy. And the entire time, I couldn't help but think that for what they spent on this, they could have financed TEN mid-budget movies. By the time you factor in marketing budget, Amazon is going to lose hundreds of millions on this and that will discourage them from spending on more projects in the future.
Wow, this is probably more exciting than the movie itself... Christy's disdain for the movie and Alonzo's lukewarm regards... This is a movie i want to see just to see where my taste align with these two... hahaha... Ghosted was pretty bad, but I did not hate it. I really want to like this movie, but I will probably fall in Alonzo camp. Taking my time to see this movie in IMAX since it is pretty empty... hahaha...
This still looks like a lot of dumb fun, and I look forward to seeing it. Also, while the connection is more obvious here, Christy again doesn't disappoint by including a reference to Walk Hard. I feel like you do in at least half of your reviews these days, but I know you can pump those numbers up higher.
This should have been called Jacked Santa. J.K. should have been the lead and the plot could have been built more around him than the Rock and the Chris Evans part. Also, just judging from the trailer, if Chris Evans isn't careful, he may fall into Ryan Reynolds land of I'm just playing my snarky self in every movie and therefore not really acting anymore schtick.
Walk Hard was funny. I was forced to watch it by a friend who loves watching "Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death" so I was skeptical. I was pleasantly surprised. There are so many new Christmas movies every year I never know which Christmas movies to watch. I feel like a lot of them aren't quality.
Amazon released this into theaters to try to make a profit after the movie went way over budget. Due to the rock coming to set eight hours later & going to the bathroom in water bottles. An similar thing happened on Black Adam.
He needs to lose like 25% body mass to come back down to normal jacked action dude. He also needs to get the crap kicked out of him in a movie again. Remember The Rundown? That was a perfect level for Rock.

The same thing I thought when they said “everything everywhere all at once” was a good movie. 💀 Only boomers would think that movie is innovative and not just the laziest tumblr post……
@@devonellesse 🤣and? The blind side won an Oscar too and it was beyond cringe… and out of touch. So rotten potatoes stops you from watching stuff and forming your own opinion?….. 😂 yikes
Im tempted to see it. My whole issue with it is that they made a mistake by releasing it too early. Christmas movies should be released in December. Plus its going to have to compete against some highly anticipated movies. Haunted Mansion did the same thing competition against highly anticipated movies, already existing well liked movies and released months too early and it flopped. Timing people!!! Use your common sense here. Just because people are going to the theater for one of those anticipated movies doesn't mean that they are going to plop down more because guess whats coming up? Thanksgiving travel and Christmas shopping. They might go see 1 movie and then wait until during their shopping IF they can afford it. That and studios should pay attention to when the others are releasing those other movies people have been bugging out to see. You want those movie dollars? Shouldn't have released this movie so early.
I can't believe Alonso thinks this movie is good. This is terrible and one of the worst films of the year. Christy, I'm with you on this one. That being said, this movie deserves a 1, I think 4 stars is very generous. AVOID IT AND DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME.
This is a 250 million dollar movie. And then add the pr budget. How crazy is that.

Yeah Dwayne Johnson is golden with Moana 2. Chris Evans is going to come out the worst. But I do like that Alonso came out not hating this :)

I feel like Chris Evans needs a good romcom to make a comeback. Because yikes.
Oh Jake Kasdan did this? I really liked his first film, Zero Effect.
I thought Bad Teacher was funny
Zero Effect is amazing

Nice to see J.K. Simmons take up the mantle of Santa Clause again for the second time

I haven't seen this movie, but I agree with Christy. Christmas is Alonso's Kryptonite
Unless it has Kirk Cameron 😂
Alonso has a Harvey Kurtzman book behind him! Creator of MAD magazine!

I think I went a bit cross eyed when Alonso was describing the movie. Lol.
Preach it, Christy:)

This was originally called The Night the Reindeer Died
Can you smell the schlock Dwayne's been cooking'?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Fall and winter really must be the busiest time of the year for film critics. How do you ruin a cauliflower dish!

I enjoyed this movie.
While I have no desire to see this film, I think lots of families will check it out.

It's not totally irrelevant here!

Jeez Christy, you REALLY love Walk Hard. I’ve lost count of how many times you’ve referenced it over the years 😂
Alonso needs to stop submitting to Christmas imagery.

So u didn't like it.😅
She's so gorgeous 😍
All these paycheck movies from Chris Evans and The Rock are like deja vu gobbledygook.
I am sorry I find Dwayne Johnson unbearably cringe these days. Almost unwatchable. Dunno what happened to him.
What? He’s the same in every movie
Ego?

He's been doing the same shtick for 20 years. It's embarrassing when people never grow
totally agree with Christy on this one. for me, this movie was terrible
Remember when Scrooged made a parody of a movie like this to show how rotten bill murray was? And of course the Jews and gays love it
Chris Evans needs a new arrant. As for Dwayne Johnson, well nobody cares about him so he’s on his way out.
The movie was fucking silly...lighten up!
Alonso, it's time to hand in your film critic badge and retire 😅
Yup. Total "ok boomer"

Looks like crap!
I hate it when Mommy and Daddy disagree. Yes it’s almost worth seeing just to experience Bonnie Hunt as Mrs. C. Her coolest role since Sally Carrera.
I agree with Alonso. It’s…ok.
I watched the movie. Great special effects, the plot is a little slow. But fine with me
