Studios have done this quite a few times recently. I swear, I saw reports of Lightyear being made for Disney Plus, then it was put in theaters at the last minute. And all those reports kind of vanished.
This movie was going to be a streaming movie but due to test screenings going very well for the film (I don’t know what kind of people they got to do it lmao) the studio decided to put the movie in theaters although it is an “Amazon MGM Studios” movie.
Sounds good to me 🤷🏾♂️. I never expect cinematic gold out of anything involving a live-action Santa Clause, so a generic yet fun time is right what I expected & am looking forward to
If this movie flops, Amazon will point to this movie as an excuse to release even less of their movies in the theatres (similar to Roadhouse going straight to Streaming). It's a shame as it could lead to good movies skipping theatres... Unlike traditional studios like Paramount and Warner Bros, Amazon doesnt rely on the money from the box office , and they will likely prefer to sacfrice any money it might make back in theatres to avoid bad press from it underperforming. Netlix and apple will surely be keep an eye on this too.
It came out last week in my coumtry and would agree it wasn't bad, just enough over to the good side that I liked it but it did seem like a streaming movie.
Straight to streaming to play in the background for Christmas Eve wrapping or Christmas Day unwrapping is what this movie should have been marketed and distributed for.
If this came out in December I would have 100% watched it in theaters, I think it looks like a fun time, but I don't watch Christmas movies before December.
You got us there lol At 0:15 i serioursly thought you were gonna finish it with a big huge pile of shit xD But no in all seriousness i love your takes and its good to hear its fun at least. In some way i was looking forward to it when i first heard of it with the stacked cast .... was not encouraged after the previews started emerging lol
Like I said on the Thursday show last week, it's not going to win an oscar, but it's a dumb stupid, switch your brain off, fun, Christmas action film. Not everything needs to be amazing storytelling, or have nuance in the film. What were people expecting?
My daughter and I are excited to see this. She’s a huge fan of rock and evans. But wicked and gladiator come out next week. So I’m saving my money to do a double feature that week 😊
I saw this last week and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The chemistry between The Rock and Chris Evans is my favourite part of the movie. I do think that The Rock needs to move on to different types of movies after this. Looking forward to seeing him in Smashing Machines.
“Not terrible… just generic…” haha I’d rather see a terrible train wreck than something generic or uninspired. Skipping this, and appreciate the reaction! Thanks
Not seen it so I can't say anything, but I miss the classic holiday films as far as giving that heartfelt feeling. Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, Home Alone, The Santa Clause (for me, anyway), Planes Trains and Automobiles, etc. The movies I've seen in the last 15yrs just don't capture what those ones did. I don't know if it's the story, acting, color grading, music, etc.
We choose every day who we want to be. Every decision big and small - it all matters. Do better. Be more. Make the most of the time we have. Just saw it in IMax - thought it was fun, interesting, exciting, adventurous, humorous, and feel good movie. Why not see it on the big screen? Matinees or movie passes make it an easier buy so a family would feel better about the spend. It delivered a couple good messages, if you listen. Something I’m happy to watch with our children at Christmastime (aside from the ample “honey buns” on display in Aruba lol). I actually thought during the movie I’d like to watch it over the holidays with our visiting littles 🍿 🎅 🎄 🎁 🍿 While it’s clearly neither Shakespeare nor Scorsese, it’s just holiday themed fun adventure. Don’t be so grown up that you overthink the fun out of it. To me, on the whole, it simply rekindled the magic and wonder of Christmas and a fun journey to share with children (or just let the child within out for a couple hours). Simply be amused. Merry Christmas 🎁
We thought it was ok .. I mean, you have to know the audience. If you're going to movies like this and expecting some thriller then you're going to be disappointed like someone going to Heretic for the comedy. I've got kids and the only thing I'll have to say is the movie needed about 30 minutes cut out of it,.
Looks like a pretty standard dumb action movie. Probably fine for what it is. Maybe an example of a movie where a lower budget could have actually helped things.
I was excited for "Wicked" ... until I found out it's only Part 1 of 2 Parts! I'm *sick* of this trend!! We're still waiting for Part 2 of the most recent Spider-Verse Movie; Fast & Furious Movie; and Mission Impossible Movie -- all of which ended on Cliffhangers. It's just NOT FAIR to pay for half of a movie. 😢
@@lovetheblue6659 I thought the same but honestly then when I remembered the stage show it makes sense everything is extremely rushed in the musical even with intermission not only that there is a clear time jump and tone shift for Act 2 which feels less dramatic-adventure-comedy and more of a dark romance drama. So with those issues in mind I think they made a good choice to split it apart it would be super hard to launch from end of act 1 defying gravity in the middle of a film. plus act 1 of the Wicked play is basically a complete story if you know the stage show, and this coming from someone who considers Wicked as my favorite musical tied with Phantom of the Opera they would either have to make it a close to 4 hr musical or split it up because of how much is in the second act (especially with them adding new songs).
@@crystall.411 -- Well based on what you just described, perhaps this *will* work. Just tired of these 2 Part movies ending in Cliffhangers and then having to wait multiple years for a resolution ...
The Rock always plays the " sympathetic action hero" Thats getting Old Fast! Evans always plays the generic average guy type I think people are tired of the Lost City/Uncharted tropes!!!
I swear to God, I thought this was going to be a Prime movie.
I was thinking a Netflix movie.

Chris Evans needs a new agent
No he doesn’t
yes he does outside of marvel
What is he even thinking. What a series of dogshit movies. It started well with Knives Out but it’s been cash grab nonsense for years now.
Hes not a particuarly great actor.
@@Davidsworldtravelsit can’t be a cash grab because wasn’t marvel offering him more to continue as cap. He must genuinely think these are good
Idk what’s crazier; this didn’t go straight to streaming or that it cost 250M 😂
It went straight to steaming!
I'll save my ticket money for Gladiator 2.
Smart
I’ve heard it’s bad
saw it today i enjoyed it
I’m watching both coz I have the money 😅
I'll save for Nosferatu.
I saw it last night and really enjoyed it. My daughter absolutely loved it fun Christmas flick.
An evil force wants to take over Christmas. So, Jeff Bezos then.
Yes! my husband and I are going today to see the film today, I'm also so excited to see this new take on Santa and Christmas. 🥰
Still going to see this in theatres, but your reaction is everything I thought it would be
Finally going back to the theater.
I thought it was a lot of fun!
These actors kill their career with these rock quality movies
They get the money upfront, but no one trusts their movie choices any more.
It looks like the trailers at the start of tropic thunder
Sounds good to me 🤷🏾♂️. I never expect cinematic gold out of anything involving a live-action Santa Clause, so a generic yet fun time is right what I expected & am looking forward to

Jk Simmons should have had more screen time
It came out last week in my coumtry and would agree it wasn't bad, just enough over to the good side that I liked it but it did seem like a streaming movie.
Heck yes I can’t wait to see this in theatres!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
I’m seeing it for sure , I’ll make up my own mind and won’t analyse it too much
I expected dumb fun. It was much better than I expected.
Pretty typical Rock movie 😂
Straight to streaming to play in the background for Christmas Eve wrapping or Christmas Day unwrapping is what this movie should have been marketed and distributed for.
I'm trying to determine what poster that is behind Kris.
Mufasa
Maybe on prime lol. The irony of the Rock thinking OTHER people can't get over themselves. That's rich 😂
I appreciate your honesty. Still a hard pass for me. That first trailer just sealed that deal.
Another Rock Bottom
I see what you did there. 😊
Nicely done.
😂😂
Nice
Rock is a bottom. 🤪

@shwonsh so lol

You know what? I watched this last night and it was an entertaining escapism from the world. Harmless simple fun
Literally looks like it’s a Fast and the Furious: Christmas special and I’m ngl I’m kinda looking forward to getting drunk as shit and watching it
Cheers Kristian, it’s been out for a week or so in the UK but waiting for it on Netflix.
I liked it. Chris and Duane have chemistry. Great different movie. Superhero esk
This was actually supposed to be released last year on Amazon prime. That should tell you a lot.
see it, it's Ok

Ill watch it on streaming during Christmas. Im confused why they didnt release it during that time
Thanks Kristian!
I thought for sure it was releasing on Prime Video
You watched it, so i don't have to, thank you brother.
Great video bro
250m? What the actual Christmas hell
My partner wants us to go see this. I'm glad to know it's not as terrible as some say.
the movie was fun
These days, generic is essentially a terrible movie for $15 a movie ticket.
“Not terrible… just generic…” haha I’d rather see a terrible train wreck than something generic or uninspired. Skipping this, and appreciate the reaction! Thanks
I'm a regal unlimited member but time is precious. Maybe a stream for me. I'll use my time on Gladiator 2 & Wicked next weekend!

I would love to see Tooth Fairy 2
That already exists... unfortunately
is it better than Jingle All The Way?
I’m gonna watch it tmrw, to me people are saying it’s generic so like a hallmark movie.
I am sure it is okay for kids. As a single adult, I would catch it on streaming at home. It is probably okay on streaming, give it a try at home.
I saw the quality of the film by way of the trailer & thought of “Candy Cane Lane”. Should be called “soon to be in the $4.99 movie bin”…
lol I thought eh I’ll just watch it when it’s on Netflix. I seriously thought it was a streaming movie 😂
Ill prob wait for this to come to prime.
I thought it looked like it was gonna be a fun movie from the trailer tbh. No idea why it cost so much to make, but that’s not my problem! 😂
Muh dude looks like a alternate universe version of Steve-O...
I'm curious for Red One.
I enjoyed violent night. I thought red one would be a family action Christmas movie. It sounds like it is
I booked my ticket on the AMC App and there were A LOT of empty seats in the IMAX and DOLBY Auditorium. Man, it looks like FLOP CITY for this film
I like the trailer. So sorry the movie reviews are not doing well.
Wow I saw it beat Kristian with the Sunday early access at AMC.
Chris Evans just played a Tracker in The Gray Man🤔
Taking the grands on Saturday
