While queer people may not have been as well accepted, people certainly knew what a gay man was. And Noel fits the stereotype of a gay man. I love this song- and too many fans focus on if Talia is ‘real’. Whats important is Mischa thinks she is, and what she symbolizes to him. He wants to grow into a man, he wants to go home to Ukraine. And that he imagines a very traditional ceremony. Hes a romantic whose life has been tragic and that he died in a foreign place, without family, it hurts

whats extra painful. is that the story itself gives the vibe off that talia is not a real person. someone is catfishing him, but that doesnt matter to mischa, he believes her in the most honest way imaginable. he doesnt wonder, he loves her innocently and honestly believing anything she says. he doesnt bother to question her at all, he loves her by her mere suggestion of existence. in the song he promises to give her a wonderful life, a beautiful wedding, and an honest happy life. and the whole song as he looks lost and almost miserable how in love he is with her. the face he makes as he sings his calling solo is the most heartbreaking part. he loves her so much and the fact her projection is directly on his chest and her face is on his heart just drives how much mischa loves her. its so painfully beautiful.
the way they use the projector in this sequence is FANTASTIC. when the projection goes to mischa's chest it always gets me a little choked up...i love mischa so much, this sweet boy deserved better out of life 😭 also constance, ocean and jane in the lil flower crowns look absolutely adorable
I love Mischa's actor in this show. His voice is just amazing. It's such a shame you can't hear him as well as the other actors. This song is definitely one of my favorites in this musical!!! It's so beautiful yet devastating. Watching Mischa reach out to the projections of Talia just for them to be snatched away from him is such a smart detail. It makes me sad each time I see it. And the percussional transition to when they start singing 'La la la' ties it together SO well!! The crash symbol is like a punch of realization. Where Mischa finally realizes he'll never have the dream wedding that's playing out in front of him. That Talia is out of his reach and will probably never even hear of his death. I want to believe that Talia is real, simply because it is way more painful. Imagine her being so nice and patient with our Bad Egg, waiting for him patiently yet totally excited to come back in Ukraine, and one day... Nothing. No more Mischa. No more answer. No more love, no more wedding. She'll get super angry at him, and, when she will be starting to get over with him, she'll learn the truth, because she wanted to check one last time on him, see what he became, and realized he died. She would then realise she spend maybe years thinking of him with dispise, and that his poor soul, that love her so much, didn't have a single nice thought, a single tear from her. Her love would all come back, and her anger would leave place to guilt, and she would cry for hours, for days, knowing that he would never see her, because if he tried to see her, he probably is in the afterlife now, or he gave up on her, and that idea will haunt her all her life, that idea that the love of her life could have left this world thinking she hated him.
My little theory/thoughts on the « get with you baby » switch up. Obviously the lyrics are referring to wanting to get with her romantically, but also just being able to physically be with her, alive again. We see in This Song Is Awesome that his rage is a hip-hop-y rap style and his passion is this more classical raw style. I think the reason it changed is because of his rage returning at how unfair the situation is and the one thing he’s been working for since being adopted (saving to go back to Ukraine and get married) is now meaningless unless he somehow gets chosen to be brought back. He also picks back up his rapper style mannerisms while in the middle of the circle which is a nice touch. (Anyways Mischa (especially Gus’ version) is my favourite character so thank you for reading this little rant)

I've been stopping myself from saying this for a while cuz A LOT of ppl would get pissed, but i personally wish Mischa would have went back instead of Jane. While Jane had been sad about her missing Identity, everyone in the choir adored her after they got use to her and she even got a new birthday and name and discription! This song can also represent Mischa's feelings on the rollercoaster. He's thinking about his online gf or whatever thinking about how much fun they could have together if she was on the rollercoaster with him. The song gets progressively faster building up the tension before the coaster drops. The exiting bit comes. Hes belting (him screaming on the rollercoaster) then him dancing (i saw someone say this) hes expressing rage. Then he goes quiet at peace with what happened.
The sadist part is we don’t even know if she exists. Misha beleaves she does which is what really matters, but considering the conversation with Karnak and Noel after this performance makes me think Misha’s being catfished, possibly by Noel, or he at the very least knows she’s fake. That’s why he stops Misha when he says he wants to know what would happen if he met her in person. He’s trying to keep Bad Egg from getting his heart broken. Thats another thing that made me think it could be Noel. with how much Noel wants to live in france he maybe taking language classes. I've been stopping myself from saying this for a while cuz A LOT of ppl would get pissed, but i personally wish Mischa would have went back instead of Jane. While Jane had been sad about her missing Identity, everyone in the choir adored her after they got use to her and she even got a new birthday and name and discription! She would have also had a happy afterlife and since no one knew her identity on earth no one would have to deal with the heartbreak. Mischa on the other hand had so much he wanted to go see and do. His previous life had been so tragic and he was looking forward to the future where he would live the simple life of his dreams in Ukraine with his love and maybe even make some music(probably wasn't gonna be successful but it was still sm he looked forward to doing). But he died before he could ever truly live his life. Damn why you still reading I thought ppl didn't like theatre kid rants.

The sadist part is we don’t even know if she exists. Misha beleaves she does which is what really matters, but considering the conversation with Karnak and Noel after this performance makes me think Misha’s being catfished, possibly by Noel, or he at the very least knows she’s fake. Thats another thing that made me think it could be Noel. with how much Noel wants to live in france he maybe taking language classes. The Ukraine is in Europe so it could be one of the languages classes he could take. It could also double as a motive like maybe Noel likes Misha because he's from somewhere in Europe.
Alot of that is therory though. I'd rather think that Noel just knew and isn't the one catfishing because the implications of that hurt my heart and we don't have any actual proof. I do think he at least knew though.
