Why ?They are literally carrying out traditional roles. The Army soldiers guarding Mount Vernon still wear the Colonial uniform as well(mostly ceremonial), that and still practicing Continental Army drill.

Those are American musicians. At the time musicians would wear the reverse colors of the regiment they are attached to so the enemy would know not to shoot them. The soldiers wear blue with red facings so the musicians wear red. You’d think that they’d get friendly fired but most (key word, most) were smart enough not to shoot at someone with a drum and not a musket even if they are wearing red.

Fife and drum corps of the Continental Army during the Revolution wore opposite of what the Continental regulars wore. For example, if the regulars wore blue coats with red facings (lapels), then the fife and drum corps would wear red coats with blue facings.

I didn’t realise that soldiers dressed in the uniform of the Continental Army are then followed by British Redcoats? Is that always the case during such ceremonial marches? I tried to find information on the internet but couldn’t find any explanation.
@@williamgardiner2010 I think musicians in the Revolutionary War wore reverse colors. For example, I believe musicians on the British side would be wearing blue. It's rather confusing.

As what other commentator have said before, the US Armed Forces made up for their sloppiness with fighting spirit and training...
From what I’ve read, there isn’t any priority to show off with fancy goose steps and whatnot. Therefore the focus is on discipline and obedience. Nobody marches into battle anymore and military culture has significantly changed from the days of yore. We don’t need to show off.
I also remember seeing an interview from a North Korean general (?) and she said that weeks/months long training for marching is excessively damaging to soldiers and boots.
I don't care who the president is; I love all the symbolism that accompanies the inauguration. In particular, it sort of struck me how this pass in review is, essentially formally recognizing the authority of the new commander-in-chief, as each branch passes by and salutes him for the first time.
Somewhere in there was a fleet of aircraft carriers, dozens of nuclear submarines, battalions of navy seals, GIs and tank divisons... space force... and all the B2 bombers
