I have one and I absolutely love it. It should spend more time on my wrist but I don’t need my wife asking why there’s a new watch 😅
A sweet, sweet looking watch for the price. The unique design is a winner for me.
100% spot on mate. Can't go wrong for the price. Little to no competition for it!
Totally agree my man I have this exact watch, but it’s salmon color. Love this thing!
Unfortunately I have to disagree buddy. I can no longer recommend Merkur related watches. Too many review pieces sent with badly misaligned hands, the wrong watches altogether, failing movements and zero customer service. As a fellow watch reviewer my advice is stay away.
Interesting. I just watched your 'This Beauty has a Dark Side' video about the topic. But you personally haven't had any issues, no?
I can only speak on my experience with the, of course, and it was fine. Aside from some very average brushing on the case sides, the QC on mine was good.
I appreciate you pointing this out though. And it's something I will keep an eye on for sure!
@@TopTierTicker Up until then things were fine but suffice to say a few problems since personally ...and my subscribers have also informed me of their tales of woe. How they treated me on the last issue confirmed what my subscribers said so its a definite NO to the Merkur group from now on. Its a shame as they do make wonderful looking pieces :)
I like the boxed hardlex one much better, it's enhancing the vintage design. But is has the same flaw as this one with the minute hand. 25 years ago Omega had something similar with the model 4853.61.01. And they got it right with the minute-hand ring.
Nice dial, nice colour ways. As usual some great strap selections Kieron!
Thanks for another great review, hope all's well mate 👍
Cheers Rik! I thought the yellow waffle was a bit of a stretch with the style, but it kinda worked because of the yellowish numerals.
Stay well mate 🙏😎
I believe the minuute hand is a breguet hand. Just my two cents. Great review! Thanks!
Ah, thanks for pointing that out.
Appreciate you watching! Stay well 🙏
Love the choice Kieran. Wasn’t aware of this colorway! Love colorful unique watches. Plus the details are well thought out. I actually like the double curved bezel and the movement is just fine. I agree with you on the strap with my skinny wrists and would have loved to have seen a color matched jump hour.
It's a colourway that doesn't get much love because the salmon is so popular! I have a soft spot for green so it's my personal favourite amongst the collection.
Glad it's not just me that hates it when a strap is this long!
A few have now mentioned a colour-matched wheel! I guess that's the next upgrade! I'll let them know 👌
Thanks for watching, stay well 🙏
I believe the style of the minute hand is known as (or very, very similar to) a Breguet hand. Not too sure about the seconds hand though... I like this little thing 🙂
Of course! Breguet numerals & hands... How did I miss that one!?
Thanks for watching 🙏
agree
I had the older case version, and although it was nice, I got bored with it quickly and sold it, but this new case is compelling. 38mm is a great size for most people, but I just wish it was 36 mm.
I loved the domed mineral, the look is much better so it’s a downgrade for me. I have the salmon at 38mm and the silver in 36mm
I have seen the previous iteration of this and it was rather pretty but that green dial is fire!
Green dial + upgraded crystal = huge improvements! I'm happy to finally get hands on with this one! I've been looking at picking one up for ages. As soon as I saw the sapphire, I knew I had to get one in!
Thanks for watching mate, hope all is well 🙏
I agree. This one is on another level from the previous one! Can't complain bud, hope you are doing well too! 😉👌
Great review.. I prefer the Sugess... Which is almost identical, but i prefer the branding and gauche pattern on the Sugess...
I'll check that one out, thanks for watching and the suggestion!
guilloche, not gauche!
It's a really great watch but I love the salmon dial of this watch❤️✨
The salmon is very sharp! Thanks for watching 🙏
Glad I held off for the uo grade, I was hoping though that that would change the hand slightly so the opening would go over the hour.
Not bad.. BUT the Sugess S451 its better, with 11mm thickness, nicer branding on the dial and longer minute hand. (and nicer case in my opinion) Also the '30' is visable, the one thing is a handicap is the mineral glass on the Sugess.
Otherwise a good review. I also liked this model for a long time, but it's good that I waited for Sugess to create a better version.
I'll check out that Sugess model, cheers.
They've actually now upgraded the crystal to sapphire on this watch
Thanks for watching!
Terrific picking up of the differences! Completely agree with the Sugess being superior. I do love that green and gold colourway though. If the date wheel was matched that would have been the tits.
I think those are considered Breguet style hands. That seems to be the commonly used term.
It is beautiful, but I will be waiting for V4 with proper sized hands. It's a thing I can't ever see past! The minute hand should hide the central spindle too.
I agree, it should have a pinion cap. Although I'm not exactly sure how that works with this particular movement. Shouldn't be too much of an issue though?
It's pretty nice I will probably buy the red dial if they upgraded that one too
I'm sure they will at some point! Thanks for watching 🙏
I've just seen that the red dial is actually available with sapphire! It's on the listing in the description 👌
@@TopTierTicker Thanks that's great it's the one I prefer
Please take a look at the new Boderry Landmaster, it looks awesome!
I have one on the way!
I have the older version, with mineral crystal in salmon. But this watch is definitely a looker. Although I'm disappointed that the new version isn't available with the "paper clip" band. I thought this unique band really took the watch up a notch. By the way, has anyone noticed Merkur's packaging? I have two of them and this one came in a nice zipped red case with flower pattern. My other Merkur (also a dress watch) came in an identical case with a camouflage pattern. Nice cases, but they randomly pack them, I guess? Seems odd to have a dress watch arrive in camouflage.
The new Orient Bambino small seconds I think is better price/value
That light brown and blue straps are very cool 👌🏽 anyone knows where they are from?
My autistic brain instantly read the time on this watch faster than I've EVER read the time on a typical watch, and I wear typical watches every day
Another great review. My question... did this one make the cut to be added to your collection? Thanks!
Likely not! It's near impossible to make it into that 8 slot. My Beaucroft Seeker is too close to this watch in colour and size, but better.
Thanks for watching! Stay well 🙏
@@TopTierTicker thanks for responding. Really appreciate the interaction with your followers. And i figured that was the answer. Top 8 is hard to crack! Stay safe.
I would call those Breguet hands
A nice looking watch except is it just me that gets drawn to the sub second cut out and only half the 30? To me its like they put the sub second in as an after thought and just stuck it over the 30. leave the 30 off it will improve the look. for that reason I won't be buying what otherwise looks like a nice looking watch
are the hands gold platted or painted yello?
Get rid of the seconds display and colour-match the hour window and that would be a very nice occasional piece....
I'd typically agree with you, but not on this one. I think the sub seconds register adds real balance to the dial. But yes, a colour-matched hour window would be more aesthetically pleasing!
Thanks for watching 🙏
Nice. But I like a conventional time display that I can read at a glance without my glasses.
That's understandable! This one certainly doesn't deliver the easiest timekeeping 🤣
Thanks for watching Larry! Hope all is well with you
That green comes across a bit too punchy for my preference. Just a a bit of shade tweaking might make the difference.
It is super vibrant. Maybe check out the silver/white dial? I personally enjoy the green but I can see how it may be a bit too heavy for some.
I wish they used sapphire crystal and charged $200 for it, but I bought it anyway, the salmon dial
This exact review features the new model that now has a sapphire crystal and it's only $140. I do cover it a bit later in the video 👌
@@TopTierTicker OMG yeah I just saw that. I literally just bought the one without sapphire Crystal last week.😒
@@TopTierTicker actually, scratch that. I did indeed purchase the one with sapphire Crystal. I didn’t even know it until I checked. So thank you for informing me.
Wacky ways of telling time are cool. 😎
Is this seagull st17 movement reliable and after how many years this movement needs servicing ?
Yes, it's a very reliable movement and you should service it every 3-4 years.
It's as reliable as any other entry-level movement. Typically, you can get away with a service every 5 years. But I'm sure some go on even longer!
Wouldn't you just wang it? 😀
@@Jack_the_rider Where do you service Chinese movements?
@@Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo Any good watchmaker in your city...Doesn't cost much.
If the date was in that same yellow/green? No brainer, take my money…..but that white date wheel really, really looks like a clumsy sore thumb.
It isn't a date wheel, it's the hour display. It needs to have contrast so it's easy to read. I would argue that this is a positive over a flaw. But, I understand that people love things to be matched up! Thanks for watching
@@TopTierTicker Cool. I like that…it is very noticeable and draws my eyes away from the watch’s pleasing aesthetics.
I find it funny that you talk about taking extra time to figure out what the time is because the entire point of the jump hour complication and direct Read watches in general was that it was easier to check the time at a glance.
I also don't like the apologetic tone that a lot of RUclipsrs take when they're reviewing a watch with a non-standard time display. These watches have nothing to apologize for the non-standard time display is a bonus not a drawback.
I've read too many comments, I know what people like and dislike when it comes to watches 😂
My job is to predict questions the audience might have and try to answer them in the video
I don't feel as if my tone was apologetic. Maybe sympathetic towards a lack of understanding with the complication? Specifically for newer collectors who are a bit cautious of watches like this.
Thanks for watching & the interesting comment 🙏
@@TopTierTicker fair enough 🙂 You have to know your audience. I’ve just always especially liked unusual time displays and view them as a plus not a minus or a maybe.
Thanks for replying, you are becoming one of my favorite watch channels 😁
I've already made a comment about this before reading yours...I'm convinced it's an autistic or other neurotypical brain thing, but I read this watch instantaneously. A typical, analog dial takes me a couple of seconds. And I wear those type of watches. If you're comfortable sharing, let me know if you're on the spectrum or related
I would love it more if they chose a more authentic local name than this knock-off branding. It is the weakest point of the watch tbh.
NAH
You only like watches with kid size numbers all around. Meh. Not my thing. They look like cheap watches.
Those are Breguet numerals my friend... Far from childish
I like it, quite an attention grabber.
An unintentional attention grabber though? I feel like it isn't trying to stick out or be flashy. It just is down to it's unconventional design?
I don't think so, I think this is a watch that you get on the second look.
