My mom asked him if he was ok and he told her about the plane crash and he had just been to their concert. They were his favorite band. So sad! Amy ~Greenville, SC

    What a beautiful memorial. I didn’t realize it even existed until seeing this.Thank you for making this video. Like many people of my generation, many of those songs were the soundtrack to our youth. Street Survivors is such a great album because the band was growing and getting better as each year passed. I was just listening to this album the other day and I often wonder what they would have been able to produce after this. The bands entire works are classic and would still be historic if they were still alive. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Ronnie’s brother Johnny and Gary Rossington and all the players for keeping the band going for all these years.

This memorial of Lynyrd Skynyrd is beyond beautiful and it was even more special when I visited that day because the owner of the land that donated this site and another gentleman whom both were at the crash that night was there telling everyone their story of that fateful night. ❤️

    Enjoyed the video. We were able to visit the site a while back with permission to recover artifacts related to the crash. The owners of the actual crash site are very protective of it and we were asked to keep watch for anyone trespassing. Currently we were also contact by band family members about some of those items being in an upcoming Skynyrd museum or other similar type of location. We displayed the relics free to the public for the first time last month in SC at a relic show.

    The plane that crashed was an old converted Convair. It was owned by an airline, then Jerry Lee Lewis bought it and converted it to an Entertainers Aircraft. Basically, the plane was "worn out" from years of use, when Jerry Lee Lewis sold it to an aircraft leasing company in Dallas, Texas. This Aircraft had a lot of problems in it's last years. Notice there is no mention of the two pilots that died. It was their bad judgement to keep flying that piece of crap without proper maintenance that was a major determining factor in the crash and lost lives. Thanks for another great tribute video Adam. Excellent viewing.

    • @scotabot7826
      @scotabot7826 4 года назад +11

      The actual airframe was in fine shape, but the engines, more than likely were nearing overhaul. The problem was a bad mag, which controls the ignition timing. Thus, the engine runs really rough, and consumes fuel at twice the rate as compared to a properly timed engine. They had a bad case of "get there itis", (very common saying in aviation circles) which is the cause of many aircraft crashes.
      Pilots push on instead of landing, thinking just a little bit more and we'll be there. It has costed thousands their lives!

    • @davidrice3337
      @davidrice3337 2 года назад +1

      first of all you were not there - you have no idea what the pilots were thinking - I know this - they didn't want to die either -
      No one gives them any credit for the 20 people who lived -
      No good comes from being critical of those who can't defend themselves

    When I was nineteen years old I was able to see Lynyrd Skynyrd during their "Gimme Back My Bullets" tour. This was in January of 1976, Corpus Christi TX, with the Outlaws as the opening act. I still have the concert flyer that I picked up at a Head Shop and it is framed, hanging up. That concert is in the Top 5 of the many that I have been to.Ed King had left the band and it was the "Two Guitar Attack " of Collins and Rossington. I still remember Ronnie Van Zany commenting that the stage was hot that night and that it was burning his bare feet. Man! When they closed with FREEBIRD the place came apart! Hearing FREEBIRD and GREEN GRASS AND HIGH TIDES at the same show was something that you never forget if you loved Hard Rock Southern Rock and Metal, the way I did then AND STILL DO! i'm 62 now, got diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure a month ago and they tore down the Coliseum several years ago, but I still fly my FREAK FLAG and I have my own little memorial to Skynrd which are three bricks held together by mortar that came from the Coliseum where I got to see the GREATEST SOUTHERN BAND', THE BAND THAT STARTED IT ALL, LYNRYD SKYNYRD! Thanks Adam. They did a nice job on the memorial. I was in my early 20's then, like about everyone my age was really into Skynyrd and was crushed to hear the news. I especially liked Steve Gaines guitar playing, although he wasn't with them long before the crash he was amazing, great style, clean, flawless live. They toured relentlessly in those days so I saw them after every album release/tour. I have a lot of favorite Skynyrd tunes, actually, I can't think of a pre-crash Skynyrd song I don't like.

    One of my first jobs I ever had was working a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert selling live cuts of their music on CDs when EMI music had the rights to it. The band which opened before them was Allman Bros who are really awesome in their own right. Anyway, even from where I was stationed away from the pavillion, their music sounded as good live as it did over the radio.
