Great video Jordan can’t wait to see what comes next I was actually at the actual spot where the plane actually landed or should I say crashed back in 1987 when you could get back to it before the previous owner of that land has it now you could sneak back there there is a tree called free bird tree and it has many names and carvings on the tree I don’t think anybody’s allowed back there anymore because you’ll probably get shot buy the new owners but it was one hell of an experience for me some thing I will never forget and I hope they do not ever tear that tree down

I’ve never heard anybody mention whether or not the flight crew was their regular crew or did it changed with each leg of the tour?
I heard an interview with Aerosmith,(I think), who claimed they used that plane just before Lynyrd Skynyrd but made the record company lease a new one because they were too scared of it.

I really like Gene. He always tells the truth about what happened. I'm glad to see the people who recused the survivor there also. It's heartbreaking what happened to all of them and I'm sorry that some of them lost their lives. It's a miracle for the one's that did survive. I'm glad they finally have a memorial there for them. It's sad, but beautiful. Thank you Jordan for sharing this with us. 🕊

    Did you know that,
The opening lyrics from "Freebird !"came from Allen Collins wife???
    Her name was,
    Kathy.
    She asked Allen one day,
    "If I leave here tomorrow,
    Would you still remember me?"...
She passed away after complications during the birth of their 2nd/or 3rd child(I'm sorry not remembering exact!)...
    Ronnie and Allen,
    We're close too...
    Somewhere down the line,
Allen told Ronnie what she said...
And that was the beginning of "Freebird!"...
    Rest in Peace,
    🦅🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🦅

What a wonderful memorial to such a great band. Some of Ronnie's lyrics had a moral message. Like The Needle and the Spoon. Poison Whisky . Simple man. About being humble. Then there's Saturday Night Special about the worrying usage of cheap guns at the time. But they never came across as being overly preachy. Just cool songs. Had he and the others survived , they would have been massive world wide. Although the reformed band with Johnny were/are none too shabby. Thank you for bringing this poignant but interesting video x

Completely unrelated to Lynyrd Skynyrd, but if you grew up in the 70s and a Skynyrd fan, then you probably are familiar and have heard a story or two told by the late great Jerry Clower. He grew up just north of the crash site and lived about 15 miles away. Just a couple of days ago I went to the LS memorial and then to the East Fork community where Jerry lived and was the source of nearly all of his stories. I had a moment of silence and rememberance for him there as well as doing the same at the crash property.

Someone should tell Gene that he is relevant and that relevance doesn't depend on bashing another survivor who no doubt had some kind of trauma of having to live through it and see through it. The bashing almost overshadows the loss of that day. Make it about the [ep[le who died, not ragging the people who survived.

Wow. Gene really had the story to tell.. I had my tickets to the NY eve show '77, along with about my entire high school.. Wish I would have kept the ticket instead of going to see Willie N., who did the show instead.. Still have my album, the original one with the flames. Thanks for this Jordan. It was really special.

Gene mentioned seeing the autopsy photos. Wished you would’ve had him elaborate on that. I’ve never heard him mention that before in interviews.

That was so respectful you did about the crash. I remember this so well, but l had never heard the real story. Ty to all involved.Gene still gets emotional talking about it. I wish him the best. I watched your other vlog where he took you to all the places, l am looking forward to the next one! Take care❤

I just have to say ,for the sake of reality. Artimus had just ,miraculously survived the same plane crash. And no matter what, he did go to find help, and did bring them back. And he called his wife to let her no he was ok. That's what's in his movie. Sounds like what any husband would want to do first after surviving a plane crash. And NO DISRESPECT TO GENE. Keep keeping on. Peace

This is so neat. I have to see this for myself. I can’t imagine what Hell the survivors had to overcome because that area was saturated with deadly snakes and alligators. It still angers me to this day how derelict the Pilot was with the assumption of enough gas.

Believe what you want. There have been conflicting stories from many people including Artimus, Billy, Gene, Judy, and even some of the first responders. Also backstabbing. Even some snarky BS from Travis Tritt who don't even have a horse in the race.
