    Looks like doing good job.
    I always keep my calves milk weaker for about 3-5 days and then build it up to full strength. Plus i used IBC tank to but your better to cut the lid of,, as you never get it cleaned out right, as to bacterial infection problems.

    • @JMFarming
      @JMFarming  3 года назад +1

      Ahh right! We did think about doing that. I was going to see if i steam cleaned it once a week with soap it would be alright? I guess we will find out!

      they look like good strong calf’s there, they’ll do fine🤞
      But Watch out for any scouring, if so get on top of it straight away..

    You might consider leaving the low vol hose on while giving nuts and washing....surely it would fill in that time...

    • @JMFarming
      @JMFarming  3 года назад

      It would indeed! That’ll be the plan for the next time we have bucket calves!

    Nice calves mate. Is there a reason for setting things up so that you have to go in and out of the pens as much as you do, to feed milk and grain ect? Have you got power there in the shed for a pump?

    • @JMFarming
      @JMFarming  3 года назад +1

      It’s only a temporary thing. We haven’t had bucket calves before and there’s no guarantee we will again. Don’t want to spend loads on something we won’t use much! 👍🏼

    • @colinwientjens1871
      @colinwientjens1871 3 года назад

      @@JMFarming ah yep fair enough mate. I’ve got an old milk vat, which I’ve hooked up a small domestic water pump too. Inch hose, does about 1 litre/second, into long straight feeders at front of pen, grain trough underneath.

  • @Pearcefarming
    @Pearcefarming 3 года назад +1

    Good video Josh! I was going to say I wouldn’t recommend leaving those feeders in the pen as we found that they use to chew on the udders and we thought it was a chocking hazard😬 Also your quite right as you said they seem to beat them up Aswell🤣

    • @JMFarming
      @JMFarming  3 года назад +1

      Yeah they would soon ruin those teats! They topple the things over and trample them now when they are empty. Like a bunch of kids they are!

    Great setup do you keep many suckler cows or is it mainly calf rearing on the farm

    • @JMFarming
      @JMFarming  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Paul. It’s sucklers mainly. We have about 140 cows. This is the first time having bucket calves in.

    Nice video Josh! Fit looking calves. The silence after the feeding is pretty awesome. The Lame Lady looks to be doing better as well. Well done! Is the Vet there for routine TB testing or retesting? Best wishes for good results!

    • @JMFarming
      @JMFarming  3 года назад +1

      The silence says it all! She’s a lot better now, good to see! He was just here to retest 3 IR’s but they passed clear this time!

      Feeding them cold. They dont seem to mind at all. They go mad for it. Struggle to get in the pens now!
