Cool fact about N: He actually parallels this challenge very well because all of his pokemon come from the area you are in at the maximum possible level you could catch them at. He releases his pokemon each time he battles you because he wants to leave them in their natural habitats. Very cool detail that gets overlooked often because it's sort of hard to pick up on. It's nice that they kept him and his battles so faithful to his character.
If that's true then that's really cool, I'll check it out I my next play through to see if I pick up on it.
@@baranorak4080 Yeah, he's like the literal equivalent of a main series pokemon ranger and I live for it. In fact, he doesn't even catch the legendary pokemon at the end of the game, he convinces it to come with him instead. I would look up his teams throughout the game if you want to look into more detail about how they are themed around the area the fight happens. The funny thing is that I really didn't appreciate N as a rival until after I played the games and realized all of the little themes that they incorporate into his character building and backstory. He cares about the liberation and happiness of pokemon, then gets manipulated by his father and essentially raised into being the figurehead of this cult that ends up distorting his vision for them because of Ghetsis's influence. He's super dismissive of the lesser team members because of this and it almost seems as if he confides in the player at certain points because he has no one else who will actually listen to him as an equal. The whole development and splitting of Team Plasma between the first games and sequels is honestly one of the most complex theming tools I've seen in a pokemon game to date. It parallels like how a religion would split off into different denominations, and it's pretty cool that they chose to explore that in the region meant to reflect America. Also, the enslavement of pokemon was in that same vein a great idea to go into further detail about in the generation reflecting American cultures and history.
TL;DR I love N and Team Plasma is cool too I guess.
In B2W2 you can also find and catch N's Pokémon in the locations you fought him in the original, double confirming that he released his Pokémon

Fun fact, this is how a lot of people played the game back when it first came out! The anti-piracy would literally not let you get exp from battles if you were emulating the game. It even got Joe Merrick to *confirm* that the first two battles with Bianca and Cheren didn't give experience because they were "tutorial fights". Thankfully the AR code to remove the anti-piracy came out pretty fast.
And then some speedrunner who loves challenges decided to do a segmented speedrun of the game with the antipiracy reactivated. (Dondon151, if anyone wants to see someone absolutely body this challenge and all the mechanic exploits he uses.)

@@Giisuka Easy, I complete every side mission and primarily use my starter. I also use th EXP Share a lot. Gen 4 player BTW, working my way up the generations from there.

Jambo except for pikachu. Also for Ash instead of having randomized pokemon like ant, he has randomized levels which is why pikachu can win against metagross and ash-greninja can win against mega sceptile

Gen V already really encourages playing with different team set-ups, since you’re constantly finding something cool or new. So this challenge is a natural fit for it IMO.

1:02:09 My friend told me a story about how him and his brother threw a bet against each other in Gen 5, and each person had a shiny Pokémon to trade away on the line... the best was to catch the first 6 random Pokémon they encountered, train them up, and then battle, and whoever won got the other's shiny. My friend caught and trained up a Durant, and landed 10 flinches in a row with Iron Head, and swept the floor with just one, level 50 Durant XD

@@GordKeen Maybe when I was searching a black and white emulator the comments said on one of them there's no xp but I didn't download it so I'm not sure
@@GordKeen it was an easy patch that got resolved quickly on the emulator side so that you don't have to do the action replay code anymore
@@mahranislam3554 the anticheat was quickly patched on the emulator side so it didn't last long. But yeah, before you had to put in an action replay code to enable exp gain
I just want to say that I really appreciate your Pokemon videos. They've actually taught me a lot about the game. I used to always get rid of moves if they didn't do damage and never actually strategized. But after watching your crazy videos, I learned the power of stuff like set up moves, held items, status effects, etc. and rethought how I play Pokemon and decided to try playing again while focusing on strategy and putting more thought into my team. And I've been having way more fun with it than I ever have before, so thanks again for helping me enjoy Pokemon even more than I already did.
The Gen 5 games were so pretty man, they really perfected the art style at the end of the DS life cycle. Sad it was only used for two games 😓

My cousin had pokemon black 2 pirated. He gained xp, but the anti cheat made the game crash very often

Activate the anti freeze cheat so it wont freeze after accepting your starter and boom! No Exp. From any battles

Eelektross is a sleeper. Sure it's gimmick is that it has no weakness, but it's strong as hell and it's defenses aren't half bad. Pretty dang good HP stat.
Tbh the only thing holding it back is speed.
It's movepool is super diverse, can be a tank, can be offensive, has coverage for everything.
But it's too slow go be worth using unfortunately and it's too balanced for trick room, trick room prefers either wall breakers or tanks and the eel being not quite a true tank or a true wall breaker makes it hard to slot in

If I'm remembering correctly, more than one person attempted to lets-play the game from leaked roms before the game's Japanese release, and didn't even realise that they were being denied EXP at first.

I feel like Ant underestimated the raw power that Durant holds when he challenged the Elite 4 at the end of the video. For instance, Durant didn’t need anywhere near +6 atk to sweep the psychic elite 4 member - honestly, it probably would’ve one-shot everything as it is. That’s because, even though Durant was 6-8 levels under the opponents, Durant was firing off STAB-boosted Hustle-boosted X-Scissors off of its really solid 109 base attack stat, a combination that hits low defense Bug-weak Pokémon super hard; not to mention, everything was slower than Durant’s brisk 109 speed stat as well. It really only needed an accuracy boost to ensure hitting the target, and maybe an attack boost, just to be safe. This made more sense than setting up extensively on these powerful special threats, which totally ravaged Durant’s 58/112/48 defensive spread by hitting Durant’s pitiful special bulk where it hurt. Due to Durant being underestimated, many items were wasted for nothing. At least Ant stumbled upon and praised a portion Durant’s pure power at the end of the video. More importantly than all of this, though, is why the fuck I’m analyzing the interaction between a fictional metal ant’s stats and psychic embryo, comprising of a single 30 second portion in a challenge run of a game about capturing animals and making them fight. Holy shit

Gen 5 seriously had so much charm and was incredibly unique, I have such a soft spot for this generation and I'm so glad Ant did a challenge in this gen.

Ole Kaarvaag bw2 is kinda like an sequel and with national dexes and Some new places while black is just the Unova dex but u unlock the national dex later

Funny thing about this challenge: original copies of Black & White had an anti-piracy measure that, if it detects the game is being or has been copied, EXP gain is disabled. So SmallAnt effectively demonstrated that the game is still playable like that.
The only ground flying types in these games were the gligar line and landorus, so I don't think you had to worry. Unless she has a knack for flying scorpions, I think you'll be clear from the legendary pokemon.

@@techmark3665 Problem is that those unpatched roms crashed every 20 mins or so too, so I'm pretty sure this is a patched rom that had only EXP gain turned off rather than the unpatched version

For future reference (I know this video is old), if a Pokemon is in Potion range but the AI sees that if it attacks it will kill your Pokemon, it will probably attack

I've never played B(2)/W(2), my favorite gen being 3 or 2, but I can totally respect the sick fucking soundtrack. After all, it brought us the best trainer battle theme of all time. We don't talk about the two Champion themes. •-•

@@spectralburst5258 It definitely peaked in the Sprite Work, music, and they worked damn hard on the writing for once in Gen 5.
It doesn't cater to my tastes at all (I hate Urban/desert environments and Unova really makes me miserable to travel) but it definitely feels like it is supposed to be the apex and end of an era for Pokemon. But I feel like fans are going to be the ones to do the same for 3D games.
A sequel to Tem Tem or the final version of Kindred Fates (maybe even something else) could be the apex of 3D pokemon for a while.

Pralenka Man it’s actually the hardest to grind because you gain less exp when you are a higher level. It’s much easier to grind exp in earlier gens
@@spiralphoenix9839 killing 1 - 4 audinos depending on what level you are compared to the audino and the experience gain of whatever pokemon you are using gets you 1 level and they are quite easy to kill.

I love these runs that to beat them it makes you get really into how the moves and abilities work and items and switching out and fainting specific Pokémon

Fun fact: Eelektross has no weaknesses. It would normally be weak to ground, but due to it having levitate, Eelektross has no weaknesses making it the first Pokémon to have no weaknesses from the day it was released (Sableye and Spiritomb were the technical first, but then fairy type existed, so they got a weakness in gen 6).

This is legitimately interesting to watch with the amount of strategy and new pokemon being used; sometimes it's kinda dull seeing the same 5 pokemon in every fight

@@cin2110 not anymore. Idk why but for some reason, the original clean ROM I just used on Desmume still lets my pokemon gain experience. I really checked on this. I went to No-intro's database so that the original crc32 of the original ROM matches the one I have; and surely enough, it did match.
I’ve played through Pokémon Black and White many and many times throughout my childhood and before Eelektross got sent out I said out loud “it has flamethrower”, and then Durant gets one shot by it

Ahhh, the legendary-n-ghetsis fight with no save point in between. Gives me flash backs to having to sit through those battles over and over because I would lose to ghetsis and hating it so much. ( in my defense, in the multiple hours spent trying this battle, focus blast from hydrogen hit almost every time, so... yeah)

I got my hands on an illegal ROM of this game from a foreign country when I was a kid not knowing any better but then discovered that it had been rigged so my Pokémon wouldn't level up and I rage quit it completely. Watching this makes me regret my decision :'(
Funfact: its not rigged, its actually an anti piracy protection within the game. Ant could have played this without mods, but with an actual "feature" within the game.

@@magnus1130 Although do note that, IIRC, in addition to not letting your Pokemon level up, the anti-piracy protection makes your game crash quite frequently as well, which is why Ant's using a mod for this challenge instead of just a poorly-pirated ROM.
I remember being in my freshman year of College when pirates had the ROM online and a couple of flatmates downloaded it and passed me a copy when I asked what they were doing by chance. The English version wasn't even out yet, the gen 5 mons went by their Japanese names and the Action Replay code to get pass this problem was out less than 24 hours after the ROM.

I liked the idea, hated actually fighting her. At least one good thing came from that Elesa battle though: I really like sandile’s line :P
