Everyone's talking about how koopas are forced to dance, but nobody mentions that goombas are forced to jump
And that baby Yoshi’s do the dance also.
Cheep Cheeps (fish) are forced to twirl. Parakoopas/Dismounted Yoshis move their heads.
The Goomba's reaction to the "Bah" makes them move further up the rolling hill, while the Koopa's makes them move further down.
And the flowers themselves twist too
A kaizo level where you have to duck under the Goombas when they jump to the music and other related things would be hilarious
I love how the Koopa's try and impress Mario but get turned into a meme instead.
At least they're trying, unlike the goombas, who just lazily hop while moving

It's one of the intrinsic rules of the internet ... The more "wholesome" something is, the greater is the urge to "subvert" it.
My favorite analogy is that the Koppas on the moving platform are Sisyphus while the Bah Bah dance is the boulder, causing the Koopas to go back to the beginning.
Even worse than that, the Koopas don’t walk faster than the platform. They lose a little ground every time they do their little dance. If you wait long enough, eventually they will fall into the pit, unable to stop themselves from dancing to their death

Technically the dance started in New super mario bros for the ds, but in that game they didn't have a unique dancing animation and used a part of their turning around animation.

It still fulfilled the intended purpose of adding a special animation for the "BAH BAH", and it obviously shouldn't be ignored, like NSMB DS so often is.
Fun fact: the koopas dancing on beat with the music was actually in the original New Super Mario Bros on the DS, so it technically originated there

The Koopa dance was on the original New Super Mario Bros. on the DS first, though is more prominent in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Both are great games, though I spent more time playing the Wii game.

Fun fact in nsmb2 speedrun you can make a cycle with BAH in 1 tower which the dry bones (they dance too not just koopas) in question does said dance allowing you to go by him without waiting for him to turn around.
I’d like to mention other enemies and characters dance as well, such as Goombas, Cheep-Cheeps, Yoshis (when you aren’t riding them), Pokeys (they will turn into fruits on the Bahs), and even the flower, myshroom, and penguin suits
