Fellow woodworkers, what other programs do you use for generating cut-lists?
cut optimization program
Cutlist Pro. But I have to run Parallels to do it. I have an iMac.
Hallo, Try Maxcut it also gives you the amount of cash that you'll use for a certain project
Hi daddy
I use this one to generate the list of parts but not the cut diagram because it generates too much waste. I transfer the list of parts to Cutlist Optimizer (pro) on my phone. That one is really optimized and usually saves me a whole sheet compared to the Sketchup extension.
This is fantastic! I decided to donate to the project. This is well worth it and many hours of development have been invested into this extension.
Thank you TubeHammel !
Great video! I had no idea Sketch-up has become such a powerful program!
THANK YOU for making this video! With all the SketchUp tutorial videos out there it was nearly impossible for me to find any specifically for Open CutList that were also in English. There are a few out there but they were pretty terrible and I wouldn't suggest them to anyone. Thank you again! Great video!
Thank you very much for the help on these videos! I am well on my way to designing my first piece now :D!
This was very well explained. Thank you, Andrew!
Thanks for the video. I wish there were more tutorials in english for this program. Huge time saver
Great video! I can now understand (partly) what to do. Thanks.
Hi daddy
This 2 part tutorial just streamlined everything I've been doing!
This is exactly what I needed. Thanks very much.
Exactly what i was looking for, thank you so much!
Hi daddy
This was fantastic. Thank you!
love it. thank you. we share two loves, coding and woodworking.
great tutorial, this will save me tons of time. thanks for sharing
I just tried ‘Cutlist’. It is an older program and is free. I like the way it works. Easy to use. The only shortcoming is that the layout drawings do not include dimensions. Perhaps these is a setting I missed.
Thank you for this tutorial Andrew !
Hi daddy
Hi. Grain Follows Length not work. i chandge direction of grain on my component, but Grain Follows Length not work. Please help.
@@kiriltrendafilov7803 put the red axis of your component along the grain direction. And in OpenCutList open part properties, click on Axes tab, check "Lock orientation on axes". In this case and for this part, length will be read along the red axis even if it is shorter than the width.
@@BorisBEAULANT thank you very much
I use dynamic components and changing the axes is a problem
so far I have only painted on Corel and Photoshop where there are no axes
obviously axes are important in sketch up and I have to consider them when I draw
i will change the way i draw the dynamic components and i think it will
get as i want
thank you very much
great plugin
Amazing explanation video! Thank you very much :)
thank you very much for good explanation.
Fantastic tutorial. Thank you. I was hoping there was a wya to generate a cut list. 👏👏👏
Hi daddy
This was extremely helpful! Thanks a million for the great video!
Hi daddy
Nice content!! keep it up!
It was a very good explanation, it helped me a lot. Thank you Andrew ! Also OCL is very successful. Many thanks to the person who made it.
Great to hear!
> Many thanks to the person who made it.
Thank you Davut Cihan !
Awesome man thank you!
Another excellent video.
great video, helped a lot. thanks
Thank you so much for this tutorial, I was almost ripping my hair out trying to figure out why it wasn't working for me and it was a small mistake I made with the materials lol.
Thanks, good job.
Thank for the tutorial...Is there a way to get optimal cutting diagram for the hardwood if you enter your available timber dimensions?
SketchUp is Powerful indeed !!
Thanks for this. Getting the cutlist went just as described. If you don't have Trimble acct, you will have to make one. Then follow the download and install instructions from the warehouse.
THERE IS A CERTAIN SADNESS IN THIS BEAUTIFUL CREATION !! IF ONLY THE IMAGE COULD HAVE BEEN SUPERIMPOSED RATHER THAN CARVED !!.
thanks a lot man > am soooo happy for that explanation
Hi daddy
At 12:10 why is the input for “available thickness” entered as length of the board instead of an actual thickness? Is it just a misnomer?
Hi, thank you for sharing. 'm trying to generate a cut list for a project that is made by 10, 16, and 20 mm plywood. I'm having troubles with 20 mm plywood, because the software produces more cut list for the 20 mm plywood, instead of merging in a single cut list like the other thickness. How can i fix this problem?
Really handy info
Thank you!!!
Thank youu for the help😃
Thank you. How do you generate edge banding veneering for panel edge in OpenCutlist ? Can you tell us on another video please
Thank you!
Hi daddy
Now this is nice beautiful
Great video.... still valid three years later!
Glad to hear it!
What if I want to build multiple dressers (or other item). Do I need to duplicate the item in Sketchup or is there a setting in the extension to set for number of items/objects to build?
I haven't tried yet, but will a piece with rebates or dados be recognized as the larger thickness (0.75")
i see you on the GITHUB for opencutlist so wanted to ping you with an issue im having. it normally works but this time it refuses to generate cutlist for plywood panels stating that the saw kerf is tooo big
have never had this issue. i did check material dimensions to ensure that i didnt use an inch where foot should be
Hi. Im using sketch up and an extension called Open cut list. The extension works well except for when it gives a report or break down on the cost of board and edging etc. It cost per roll of edging instead of just the amount of edging used. That's all good and well but where I am, that's how we actually pay for edging, per meter used instead of the full roll. Any idea how I can alter that? thanks
If your plywood fits into a dado in the legs and the panel is actually 1" wider than the piece that shows how would you account for that?
Thank u very much
Thank you for this. I had already given up on doing cut list with a software and were doing them by hand. I will for sure use this!! Are you able to get board feet’s when doing the solid wood?
Is there an option to make cutlist according to the grain direction. Because I have to change the axis manually everytime
Is this only for pro users?
I have the "go" plan and not sure if I can use that for this. I'm confused, I downloaded thr desktop version but doesn't seem that I can do anything there. So for now I have only used thr browser version.
Any idea why solid wood parts won’t generate a layout? It would help to know at least the board footage required for solid wood parts
I am wondering how to generate cutting diagram for solid woods (I don't see cutting diagram button as shown for plywoods).
HI, is there a cutmap plugin alternative, since it is not compatible with latest sketchup version ?
can i ask you something companies use in work php oop mvc i mean native php or i use framework like laravel when i work in company or use wordpress or all
"On the 'macintosh'" That was adorable.
Man I’ve been making those process so much harder than it needed to be. What was your back panel? You hid it but didn’t add it to the material list.
Hey bro my cutlist does show that cutting diagram options, whereby i have to set cut blades
Great extension and great tutorial, I have 3 components of 80x122cm with a sheet size of 122x244cm but the cutting diagram puts them on 3 full sheets instead of rotating them so 3 will fit on one sheet. Did I miss a setting ?
Check that you have not selected grain direction. With that it won't retate to keep the grain direction the same
Andrew, is there a way to portray angles or miters in the cutlist? I as because your 4 cherry pieces have miters on top. Those are easy enough cause they are 45 degree angles but for a piece that is a bit more intricate is there a way to show what angles need to be cut? The only way I have found is to keep going back to the design and measuring everything out manually in sketch up. I hope that question wasn’t to confusing.
Not that I know of. I believe the extension always uses 'outside to outside' edges for the dimensions, and ignore inlays, miters, etc.
thank you
Welcome!
GREAT video! I have a material I use all the time and I Exported the .SKM file, but when I got to another drawing and try to Import that saved .SKM, it doesn't bring it in (or over right) the material with the same name. How can I have it bring the saved material back in? Thanks much!
Actually not sure on that Brian? Anybody else?
I’m confused a bit. You have all these different groups. Did you use a shortcut to get to all the groups?
Hi. Grain Follows Length not work. i chandge direction of grain on my component, but Grain Follows Length not work. Please help.
Thanks for this tutorial! I was wondering if anyone else ran into this issue: "cross section not available." It's only happening for larger boards with miter cuts on opposing sides (trapezoid shapes).
Maybe just because you don't configure this cross section on you dimension material in materials tab of the plugin.
Hi daddy
Part of a cabinet project not showing all in the opencutlist when generating them ?
Andrew: I appreciate the time and effort you took to help me work through both Sketchup and Cutlist. One thing I noted was that you had not included a board covering the back of the dresser. I presumed it should be 1/4" and I made it OSB for the purposes of completing this tutorial. I did note, however, that Cutlist would not generate properly while that back board was in place, so I "moved" it away from my drawing and it worked just fine. Is there a workaround for not having to "explode" the drawing?
Hi daddy
Hi daddy
Thanks for the video. Great job. I installed the extension to use for a wall bookcase I am building for a client. Lots of parts. I can't see if Opencutlist will create a solid wood cutting. The sheet goods I got to work great. But I don't see a way to generate a solid wood cutting diagram.
I also tried to find any documentation. On his site he has a few FAQs but no general docs on how to use the extension. Do you know of documentation?
I'm not sure on documentation either...
Hi Eric. OpenCutList is just a free software made on my free time. Difficult in this case to spend more time to write de full documentation :). My goal is to create a quite intuitive software to avoid full docs need.
Else, to answer to your question, no, there no way in OCL to create cutting diagram for solid wood. Because solid wood is not an homogeneous material and a diagram can't help us to avoid nodes and other wood defaults.
Is it possible to export the generated cutting diagram to .dxf/.dwg?
Hi daddy
When I copy/move a component it doesn’t create a second part and the thickness increases to an unavailable amount. So if I move a copy of 3/4” plywood 16” OC for example, the app looks for a thickness of 16 3/4”. So frustrating because I could really use this extension
May be because you copy your component into itself ?
What if you are unable to download the open cut list?
how do you use this for dimensial lumber. i have a bunch of 2x4 in a model and set up my materials with the correct thinkneses and plenty of standard lengths, but on the cutting diagram, it says "one or more parts could not be bit, because it is too large to fit"
Because your defined standard lengths are *to short* for those parts.
Thanks...............
How did you get all 3/4 cuts on one sheet? Mine are all separated. haha Good work!
Thanks for this great info. I got the following "No instance of a visible component was detected in your scene." but my drawing shows components under the components tab as each piece is labeled. Any idea?
Hmm, not entirely sure, but may be do a 'reveal all' first. I know sometimes you can make something hidden/invisible inside of components and then get unexpected results...
Hi. You have to use components, not just groups.
I also have this problem. My whole model is generated perfectly into the extension except for one certain component no matter what i try
@@philippe888 Your part must be a component (**groups are ignored**) with a valid size (if length, width or thickness is null the part is ignored).
Is there a trick to have the cutlist calculate when you copy items? For example when building a pergola. 4 post beams. I would create 1 and then copy to create the other 3. When I go to cutlist it only shows an amount for 1 post, not 4.
Hi, just create a component of your beam and copy it. OpenCutList will count each instance.
Hello, Thanks for this tutorial!. Can I rearrange specific wood piece manually to make all fit?
No, you can't.
Thanks for answering some questions here Boris, this video has gained a lot of popularity so I'm sure you're seeing much more use for your great plugin!
@@FollowAndrew yes thanks to participate to OpenCutList promotion, Andrew !
@@BorisBEAULANT Will it be possible to orient individual parts in the future? I am trying to make two particular boards of my project to be oriented cross grain, while other parts orientation is of no importance and i just cant do it. If i make a new material i loose more than half the board to waste, and if i try to do it by calculating myself it is a bit too much with all the parts if i want to save on the waste. This plugin is a very powerfull tool to use, but manual orienting would be an incredible perk. Thank you for your work!
@@mechaninisorfejas4574 You can do it since OpenCutLIst 1.0 :)
You juste need to setup part component's red axis along the grain direction of you board and check "Lock orientation on axes" option on this part.
OCL read grain direction on length, but length is not necessary the longest dimension :)
Great tutorial !!!
I downloaded the latest version of the extension and there is no cutting Diagram option available, How to turn that on? or they remove that from the extension ?
same here
@@thebunnyluvr Hi I found that already , cutting diagram is above the list now just after you generate the list .
When i use this extension in Sketchup 2021 Pro it tells me "Your model does not use any defined material (Solid Wood, Sheet Goods, Dimensional ou Hardware)."
However, i used materials native to the Sketchup program in my drawing.
Thoughts on why this extension does not recognize I have actually assigned those materials?
Hi Eric,
You should go to the "Material" tab in OpenCutList dialog and click on the material you applied on your part to edit its properties.
Then you have to select a type (Solid Wood, Sheet Goods, Dimensional or Hardware).
Hello, thank you for tutorial!
Can you help me to find how can I change the grain of a piece? not based on lenght? thank you, looking for your answer
go to the individual part in the extension, and the reorient the axis as desired
Align the red axis along the desired grain direction and lock the dimensions alors axes.
Hi Andrew, I'm really hoping you can help me. I built a model in SketchUp, I'm trying to generate a cut list, and the legs of my out feed table are going to be made from 2x lumber. However after I joint and mill the lumber the legs are going to be 1 1/4" x 4". In open cut list I keep getting to warning "cross section undefined." Id like to cut these pieces out of a 2x10, however it seems like the program will only let me define the lumber as the exact size of the finished cross section. I thought I would be able to use any piece of lumber that was larger than my finished piece? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately I've been too busy with other projects, so I haven't kept up with recent changes on the cutlist plugin...
In OpenCutList standard cross section should be set to the exact fit that you will draw in you model.
Great video on generating cut lists! I recently designed a workbench, and used both mdf and plywood. When i pull up the parts list, the different parts are broke down on different sheet goods. In other words, I may have 2 small parts on one sheet and 4 on another, when they could fit on one sheet. Is there a way to combine the parts to all fit on the fewest sheets?
There are a couple of options for 'sheet fitting' in the settings. You can fit by type / length/ optimize for rip cuts etc.
@@FollowAndrew Thanks for the reply!
i want to able to create a model for a cabinet and generate cut list for 10 instances of the same model ? Is there a way to do that ?
Just copy 10 times you cabinet in you model.
I wish you would've mentioned which version of the program you were using when we started. :( spent all day creating my project now I cant create a cut list on the free, personal version. Thanks for your help anyway, overall it was helpful but that would've been a huge time saver.
Yep
@@CrustyClad Hey, I ended up just getting the 30 day free trial for the pro version of sketchup to complete this project (easily) and then I'll cancel it before the trial is up ;)
Hangs with large number of cabinets whivh was not happening with previous versions
how to get the groove detail in this plugin ?
No way, it's just a cut list plugin.
Hi daddy
Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included ruclips.net/user/postUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.
My MS Excel does not have this Extension or Drawing Cabinet capabilities. We need more info that just "" Drawing cabinets with MS Excel"". or just ""Generate Cut-list Woodworking 3D SketchUp"
which sketch are you using
I was on the sketch pro desktop Mac version (2019 for this recording)
use cm or mm units
Bummer. cutlist doesn't seem to work in sketchup 2021
OpenCutList (not Cutlist) **works** on SketchUp 2021.
@@BorisBEAULANT Thank you.
Dont have a Mac. Don't see extension warehouse
I don't believe the online free version supports extensions?
ABF extension more powerful comparison to cutlist
Are you a wood worker?
yea, well, I expected sketchup can do it without extension.
Probably the most slow moving painful tutorial I have ever watched!
what is going on, nobody cares about what material it is or the color we just want to see a cut list like the pdf plans people have that they sell on youtube videos, great job wasting 22 mins of youtubes time
I learn from RUclips.com/imaginemotions
