Fucik had some rather brilliant music, it's kind of a shame it's all overshadowed by Entrance of the Gladiators (despite that it's a brilliant as hell song). I'm a huge Sousa and Rickettes fan and a fan of marches in general, I'd love to be able to hear some more by this man.
Discovered this guy through a random wikipedia page. His nephew was an author and was executed by the nazis in WW2. His nephew wrote about his torture and interrogation while he was in prison by writing on cigarette papers and hiding them in a pickle jar under the floor where they were smuggled out through the help of a prison guard. Just some random info i thought id share.
I play piccolo for this march and am the only piccolo/flute player in senior high band, and I LOVE this song! For some reason it reminds me of the music for the chicken dance! :l
And his Nephew was an author who was tortured and killed by the gestapo in WW2. His nephew wrote about his torture and interrogation by writing on cigarette papers and storing them in a pickle jar hidden beneath the floor where a prison guard helped smuggle them out.
We learned today in band that many years ago that this came from the middle school symphonic band music, and that less then half of the people could play it all the way through. hoo, boy
@rotunda57 if my memory serves, that's how it was scored. (Granted, I played it years ago in high school, so I may be mistaken.) I have to say, though, the slow section (from 2:32 onward) is definitely my favorite.
Yes, piccolo, flute, and E-flat clarinet (the parts are all the same). You have to practice it very slow and gradually play it a little faster. If you try to play it too fast from the beginning, you finger will learn it the wrong way and it will be hard to train your fingers to play it correctly.
@jellosoup I'm actually playing flute on this march and if you start slower when practicing and gradually get faster each time you end the phrase you are practicing, you should be able to get it down.
my band director is making us play this (he says it’s his favourite piece) but we (bass players) have to alternate between playing the bassoon part & the bass part 😭
@smelloftheice I personaly am not going to go to that trouble, and by the way why don't you do it our way, Or at least just accept things as they are and just enjoy the great music. Hey, have a great day.
In a short, brilliant career, during which he served as bandmaster to the 86th Hungarian Infantry Regiment at Budapest, he developed his own wide-ranging style of writing marches, a popular dual profession among bandmasters amidst the on-going nationalism then flourishing in Europe. Thus it is not surprising to find a Hungarian writing an Italian grand march and out-doing many Italians in the process.
It is my opinion that if your name is spelled a certain way in the enhanced latin alphabet, it is your right that your name is spelled that way, even if you move to another country that doesn't have those symbols. For instance: If your name is Patočka and you move from Czech Republic to Austria, you shouldn't have to change your name to Patocka. Or if your name is Schröder and you move to the UK you shouldn't change your name to Schroeder or Schroder.
It’s called the trio. The equivalent of a rock songs bridge. A chance for some quieter sections to come out. The f horns still off beats. (Take breath on the down beat and play quarter notes)
@emperorIng360 In fact, it's spelled badly. It's Fučík, not Fucik. Some people are too lazy to look up the correct spelling or pay no respect to languages which use diacritic marks.
@emperorIng360 not only in English ; ) haha in Polish the guy's name is just half a sylable away from being 'dick' (Fucik -> fiucik) xD He wouldn't last a day in school here, sadly..
I remember this piece. Our conductor would always be telling us: "FASTER! LOUDER!"
This is a very fun march, even for the bassoon!
Iies
eß muy moñóþoná la musica.

Ricketts other name is Kenneth J. Alford. Britain's greatest. Sousa great also.
one of the best versions i´ve ever heared great dynamic and speed
i love fucik
Finally a march that gives the third trumpets a damn good part. Or at least the arrangement our band is playing does.
this guy's surname is almost a swear word. Respect brah
At least it's actually pronounced FOO-sheek. And misunderstood weirdos will say FUH-kick.
Clover The Silent Horse
I thought it was pronounced FOO-sihk, but you’re probably right
It is in fact foo-cheek.
It's Fučík, not Fucik. In English, it would be pronouncing Fushiik or something
I read it as “Frick” the first time I read it.
One of the most beautiful marches in the world..!
Beautiful Trio. Brings a tear or two.

I think of this every time somebody makes fun of Entry Of The Gladiators.
Marvellous composer. Great performance of the march.
I play piccolo for this march and am the only piccolo/flute player in senior high band, and I LOVE this song! For some reason it reminds me of the music for the chicken dance! :l
I love this song so much! I play the piccolo part for our HS band, and I gotta admit it is so much fun ^-^
schön wieder mal zu hören!!!
Szerintem..., EZ A LEGJOBBAN ELŐADOTT FIRENZEI INDULÓ....! Szeretem és köszönöm!!!! IR.
the cymbal part for this KILLS! my arms are numb after every run-thru.
Wonderful Music!
Listening this gives me good mode and feeling every time - great!
Julius Fucik was a Czech composer who died in 1916
I wanna be like him
And his Nephew was an author who was tortured and killed by the gestapo in WW2. His nephew wrote about his torture and interrogation by writing on cigarette papers and storing them in a pickle jar hidden beneath the floor where a prison guard helped smuggle them out.
RIP
Epic. I LOVE this guy!!!
Great music over tine. Nadherna hudba nadcasova.
To steal a line I've read here before I salute your wicked mustache, Mr. Fucik. Great march
Einer der schönsten Märsche die ich kenne..........immer wieder gerne gespielt ....
TANZdiele " Zu GEZENDORFF" Die DISCO - Alternative !!!
1:24 I heard Lots of trombone solo in his songs, but this one is my favorite.
A truly memorable march.
Dylonely, I agree. This is my favourite march.
Magnífico, és belíssimo fucik...
ihanaa musiikkia ilman aseita.
Beautiful
I played an arrangement of this on a pipe organ many years ago. A challenge then, certainly one now !
omg this just brought back memories of my secondary school days in TKGS sigh
We learned today in band that many years ago that this came from the middle school symphonic band music, and that less then half of the people could play it all the way through. hoo, boy
I love this song I am trying to play it but it is very difficult!!
+Ashton Girl Keep on trying...................... please
What kind of wax does he use for his mustache? He reminds me a bit of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, particularly around the eyes. Uncanny. :)
Brilliantly used in the film Brassed Off. Really catches a different flavour of the music against the film images.
Superb!
"Fu" must be sad shortly (like Kung Fu) and "čík" (like cheek - part of a face).
I finally found the song that I'm looking for
My god that trio is so beautiful
Très émouvante (partie du milieu). Compositeur méconnu bien que sa musique soit populaire..., comme Waldteufel par exemple.
@rotunda57 if my memory serves, that's how it was scored. (Granted, I played it years ago in high school, so I may be mistaken.)
I have to say, though, the slow section (from 2:32 onward) is definitely my favorite.
I had this version on a Decca tape that I bought in the 1980:s . That is why I know it is Karajan.

24 MOTHERFUCKING FORTES
lol with your comment they stopped dislike this
More like motherfuciking fortes
Mat7920 H
Dang, you beat me to it.
I knew this comment would be in here somewhere.
I don't get it.
@kolobite
BTW, I love this song. Thanks, WickedNorth.
bellissima!!!
This is Karajan and the Berliner Philharmonic. Nobody mentions!
you'd actually pronounce it "foo-chick"
I pronounce it f-uh-k
In czech (Fucik was czech) Its Fučík
Fučit-ík
Foo fighters: he’s the chosen one!
Julius foo-chick: yes I am.
Fu-sēt
I don't know why, but that made me giggle...
0:40 this is interesting
Hermosa marcha ❤
fascinante manita arriba los que le gusta la música clásica.
Who performed this recording? Herbert von Karajan and the Berliner Philharmonisches Bläserensemble?
A great march - and danceable. A pity he had such a short life.
Hey, how come my computer's speakers didn't explode from the 24 fortes at the end of this song?
Did you install the thermonuclear warheads that are required to reach that decibel level correctly?
Drum Major camp brought me here a while back lol
I have the piccolo part for concert band and from about 4:44 onwards its freaking impossible too stay in time :/
Great song though! :)
the 24 fortes guy

His name was Julius Fučík not "Fucik" or "Fuck it". In Czech it sounds completely different.
@smelloftheice I personaly am not going to go to that trouble, and by the way why don't you do it our way, Or at least just accept things as they are and just enjoy the great music. Hey, have a great day.
Grimethorpe play with more pace and it does sound very good.
A very good piece.

@smelloftheice Just to be sure, this is not an attack on TheWickedNorth. I'm speaking about the trends generally.
My director told us "ONE TASTE BUD SHOULD HOT THE TEETH"

A Tübingen...orthographe respectée. Salut aux amis allemands de cette belle période. Gérard Leidet.

its good song

Drum Major Academy!!
LOL TRUE
Julius Fuciking wonderful :)

playing this for band!! PICCOLO SOLO!! oh yeah XD
Thumbs up if playing this song in band brought you here.
His nephew who was killed by the gestapo in WW2 brought me here. Crazy story.

So thats the name of the piece that the Irish Defence Force band plays
Does anyone else think of the Georgian film Monanieba/Repentance upon hearing this?
En effet la meilleure partie est à partir de 2:45.
It’s called the trio. The equivalent of a rock songs bridge. A chance for some quieter sections to come out.
The f horns still off beats. (Take breath on the down beat and play quarter notes)
Are 24 fortes really necessary?
+Earl Archibald Campbell of Argyll Nej.......................
+Earl Archibald Campbell of Argyll yes
thats all
we need 24 fortes in every piece from now on XD
Why does everyone keep mentioning this? Is it a joke or are there actually 24 fortes?
Yes there are. In a brass part, as well.
actualy Mnozil Brass brought me here. Kinda like it.
@rotunda57 I don't think so it still sounds pretty much like 4/4.
@TheCursedChosen1
Believe it, baby!
A really old video with really old comments. I doubt anyone will see this.
Grüß Gott
@smelloftheice
Sigh. Somebody has to point these things. I guess you're right.
We should replace Hail To The Chief with this
@emperorIng360 his surname can be translated like Blower :D
@thePANDASgirl13 You can always use the good ol' copy&paste trick.
nagOn jó
LMAO!!!! OMG! that is damn funny!
Stop complaining what the official time is. The melody actually has 2/4 while the accompaniment lines have 6/8, creating an odd polyrhythm sound
@emperorIng360 In fact, it's spelled badly. It's Fučík, not Fucik. Some people are too lazy to look up the correct spelling or pay no respect to languages which use diacritic marks.
i have the music with me rite now it is 6/8
The offical time is 2/4
Ťháť waš a góóď půň, šíř.
@sarangnorae416 I guess my marching band season paid off :D
Has anyone played flute for this march? I'm having a hard time with the end.
I play drums, but i saw the flute notes too
It is indeed very hard
@emperorIng360 not only in English ; ) haha in Polish the guy's name is just half a sylable away from being 'dick' (Fucik -> fiucik) xD He wouldn't last a day in school here, sadly..
@smelloftheice Or this person is using a laptop, which I know from experience that you cannot make those signs on.
