Reminds me of the original 21st century long hunter… I remember when you cleaned the barrel with sand in the creek and mentioned shooting pebbles. (Yeah, I have been watching and learning from you for years!)
A word of caution, if you get a misfire, do not open with the breach facing you. The charge may go off and send the adapter your way. It was allegedly a problem with the old Huntsman.
Beyond impressed with the thought process behind the 12 gauge loadout. Never would’ve thought about the rounds color, brass type etc for being able to differentiate your rounds for different game.. and that before we get into the adapters. Well done Dave once again
It’s not a competition shoot, if it puts food on the table that’s the TOOL I need . Common sense says you don’t use bird shot for a deer or bigger . And I try to keep a few of each bird shot , buck shot ,or slugs. Always great to see the knowledge you share cause always learn something new.
Great video as always ! We actually use rifled shotguns to hunt woodcocks here in France, up close it makes fast snap shots much more achievable when going against such a small and fast bird.
Todays gun and hunting industry is so flooded with elitism and people saying you gotta do everything a specific way or not at all. It’s nice to see somebody getting back to the basics and showing that for most people, you don’t need the newest coolest gun to shoot game
Hell yes, Dave, good enough is good for me. Great videos, opinions, and PHILOSOPHY. Simplicity is oftentimes the best way to go. It equates to reliability.
Love these videos Dave. I bought a used H&R with a Mod choke and the adapter a few years back after seeing your first videos on this. Glad to see the newer ones. It’s awesome to they versatility of a simple gun like this!
I've been doing a review on your series of bushcraft 101. I've used several of your techniques over the years. I must say you have saved me so much Grief on a learning curve. Thank you 😊! My review is based on what I've accomplished and your helpful hints. I'm about to be intermediate to expert on Many of your techniques. Thanks again
First off congratulations on the deer Dave. And the versatility of the 12 gauge breaks are absolutely amazing in my opinion! That's a good tip to remember your loads if you have them all in a pouch loose. I've heard a ton of good reviews about those adapters, they have several different calibers that you can choose from and I think that's a great piece of kit to have to expand your survival. I love your longhunter videos and can't wait to see more!!
Dave turned me into a 12 gauge junkie years ago. I keep a spent primer in my 209 adapter while loading. Would be great to see videos of #4, #0 and #00 buck run thru the 209.
Another awesome video Dave! I always enjoy seeing your pets included in your videos also. I can’t wait to get out to Ohio to take some classes with you. Cheers!
I was concerned about the round ball in a shotgun chamber going through the force cone smoothly but I see it's not a problem. I've used my single shot with the short line convertor but was a little chicken about the round ball. Thanks for the tips.
I was concerned about that too. Out of a hull I can understand because the plastic hull guides the ball right to the center. With the adapter it has to ride the cone. I guess it’s no different from shooting a ball from a revolver.
@Dave Canterbury I just seen this on your Facebook too a shotgun can take any two or four-legged animal in North America, and it can shoot softer than a 20 gauge by lower recoil rounds plus all the extra accoutrements you have laid out in front of everybody. So the question isn't, what's better? it's why don't people just accept that it's a phenomenal platform? It is amazing for many situations not just hunting. And like you said on Facebook the shells are easily discernible one from another, unlike 20 gauge where they're all yellow. AND the 12 gauge shotgun has so many rounds made for it now there's thousands and thousands of different options of slugs and buckshots and everything else you can think of these days the possibilities are endless for a 12 gauge.
I looked in the laws when you 1st showed the 209 adapter but here in WV they are not legal for muzzleloader season. but in modern firearm season there a full go.
I've bought the 209 adapter, and 12 gauge to 45ACP adapter. Love them both. I can head shot at 50 yards with the 45 thanks to the longer sight radius - and lots of practice. That's the extent I'll try because after that I can't see the target any more (bad, old man eyes). No, I won't be hunting with the 45 at 50 yards, that's just for funsies.
Transfer bar safety...crossbar or more accurately crossbolt hammer safety is manually manipulated. Love your multipurpose/common man vids Dave, keep up the good work
Trapping you will (or should) have sheep's wool with, so it's an excellent choice! Great vid! BTW there should be a TUKK Jr and TUKK XL headed your way!
I've been wanting that .22 adapter forever. I just need to order the damn thing. The .209 black powder adapter too and probably the 20ga adapter as well.
I wonder how my diamond arms single shot would do muzzle loaded. It's an old gun and pretty small like it was made for a youth gun but it breaks down into 3 peices and fits in my bag very well.
I always keep the primer out, until I’m ready to hunt. But that’s just me. I made a habit of doing it while hunting on public land, so I didn’t forget to remove it when I got back to the truck. You couldn’t even pay me to hunt public land these days, but I still do it out of habit.
Hello Dave I have been watching your video's for a long time I love how your K.i.s.s. mentally and multi-use of the items you carry. I have one question about affective range. What would you say is the maximum affective range for the round ball in your experience. I know it would depend greatly on the shooters ability, but it would be cool to see a video of you shooting out to your maximum range hitting your target. Thank you very much for the great information and awsome learning tools. God bless and keep up the great work. KC
Dave, would love some videos on hunting loads using these ideas. I'm hoping to hunt for the first time this year and have loaded my first shells using methods from you videos in the past.
I have over 800 shots through my 8" rifled adapter. I'm good to about 40 yards on a 6 sq inch target. Also, l checked with my state. BP with 12GA perfectly legal as long as it's muzzleloaded.
I tell people like this. If it puts meat on my table, it's the perfect gun for me. I'm not out there competition skeet shooting. I'm out in the woods..... actually hunting. I've used smooth bore with slugs, and put a big 10 point buck on the table. It was my grandpa's 16 ga. I've also used my 12 ga with a rifled barrel to put a deer in the freezer. I've put plenty of rabbits and pheasants on the table with my 20 ga.
If you use an old double barrel shotgun you can get a long rifled adapter to shoot other calibers like 22lr so u can make a combo gun like a 12g\.22lr in the same gun
Its so unfortunate right over the border here in PA that they do not allow this method and consider it illegal. Its ridiculous as you've stated, its clearly muzzle loaded however PA Game Commission refuses to recognize it as one and consider it poaching if used, likely what that guy referred too. Hopefully we can get them to recognize this method as legal as it would really open the door up for muzzle loader season. Great vid
My being a NON hunter, not an anti-hunter, I look at this in a different light. This system of adapters and a single barrel shot gun makes up an excellent survival set up, along with a side arm, for a different purpose. You have always said; "always find more than one use for anything in your kit, if possible". With this setup and some various adapters, this goal is easily attained, is relatively light in weight and compact in size. Normally. I don't watch hunting/trapping videos, being a non-hunter, but I've learned that Dave Canterbury videos cover stuff others channels don't . I almost always learn something new. Id like to know where you got that nice tan colored bag from. It is exactly what I'd like to use as my haversack.
Great video!!! I had an h&r 20 gauge prior to me watching your videos. But when you started a video with these adapters I sought out a 12 gauge. I cringed paying $120 for it but I didn't see too many in my area. Maybe touch basis with the synthetic stocks you used to promote years ago that had storage in the buttstock and the fore stock. So question. Did your tracker cat give up after the creek? Because it didn't like the water. LOL.
Dave, I’ve been watching your videos since the beginning, remember the coyote you cut up to eat? I’d expect blood and fur on your property. Heck it’s hunting/ trapping season. Question, would the .410 adapter work in the M6 scout? Thanks
Is that a new production 209 adapter? Mine is hollow. Curious about the design change. Also I get the” if you have to aspect” but using shot is not good for rifling long term.
Dave, quick question about your butchering. I know there's probably a million ways to do it, but my grandpa, and dad always taught me to let the deer hang for at least one day before actually butchering. They said it was to completely drain the carcass, and to sort of age the meat. We would gut in the field, hang, and skin when we got home, and let it sit. What's the reason to do it all in one day?
Reminds me of the original 21st century long hunter… I remember when you cleaned the barrel with sand in the creek and mentioned shooting pebbles. (Yeah, I have been watching and learning from you for years!)

I've watched this video twice, and this is a creative system. I can see the thought that went into it and appreciate this presentation.
I really happy to see some revisits with the 21st century series, That is one of my favorite series, although I thoroughly enjoy them all. Thank you
Great video as always ! We actually use rifled shotguns to hunt woodcocks here in France, up close it makes fast snap shots much more achievable when going against such a small and fast bird.

Great video Dave. Thanks for keeping it real for the common man.
I love the versatility/simplicity that you show with these shotguns.
Badass video, Dave! It’s a shame we live in a society where half a video has to be disclaimers but here we are. More in this series please!
Hell yes, Dave, good enough is good for me. Great videos, opinions, and PHILOSOPHY. Simplicity is oftentimes the best way to go. It equates to reliability.

This is one of the best videos I've seen in a long time. This is super info. Congratulations on the deer.

Great video going through the whole muzzle loading process especially for some of us who’ve been contemplating on getting into it. Thanks Dave.

Dave great vid. I agree, if it puts meat on the table great or if it puts fish in the pan great. Why complicate things. Enjoy the hunt!
Thanks for the info Dave, I've been following you for years, and your the real deal on the survival genre...
Love those NEF and H&R single shots ! Great video, I choose 12 ga. Because it's simply more common and you get more bang for the buck.
Great video Dave congratulations on your hunt. As always cool info bro.
Great video! Always enjoy watching your videos!
Great video... these are some of my favorites to watch and learn from
Great video! Thanks for clearing up the sb1 sb2 issue!
0:14 lmfao that cat is EVERYWHERE you are 😂
Awesome video!!! You explained somethings I've thought for years!!!!
So interesting! You are such a good teacher!
Another awesome video Dave! I always enjoy seeing your pets included in your videos also. I can’t wait to get out to Ohio to take some classes with you. Cheers!
The tracking cat. My 11 yr daughter is loving that. She also just got her Amateur General license.
Thank you again Dave. I appreciate all you do.
Excellent video as usual! Like the versatility of these shotgun s.David Back from Menifee county Kentucky.
Howdy, Big D! You're kill'n it. Keep up the good fight!
Heck yeah Dave! We appreciate you too. 🇺🇸
Got the same 12 gauge rifled slug gun , best survival gun there is paired up with the 22 adapter ..love it
Thank you for the demonstrations.
I'm glad they are questioning you, gives me more videos to watch!

Thanks for sharing this with us there eh! All I need now is a muzzle season here in Southeast Canada...
@Dave Canterbury

On your powder can or powder horn, you call it. That spout is usually interchangeable and actually a powder measure itself. Thanks for the video Dave.
I have Short Lanes 4 in 1 adapter kit for my NEF 12ga and love it. I have considered getting the muzzle loader adapter for even more versatility.
Ya gotta love his mindset! Armchair woodsman can talk all they want yet.... he's out there DOING IT! Big difference! Carry on Dave.
Great info Dave. Thanks for sharing
I've got shells of different colors for my 16 ga too. I haven't bought a new box of shells for a long while though. I've got red, green, and black.
Love those long beards xrs. I use the 5shot 3.5. Last year I bought some Rogue Ammo but havent used it yet for Turkeys.
I looked in the laws when you 1st showed the 209 adapter but here in WV they are not legal for muzzleloader season. but in modern firearm season there a full go.

'Nother good one Dave.
Keep burning that charcoal!

You could also get the clear shotgun shells
I really need to get this setup for my New England 12ga

👍☘️like your powder flask, great knowledgeable video Dave Canterbury.
Dave, would love some videos on hunting loads using these ideas. I'm hoping to hunt for the first time this year and have loaded my first shells using methods from you videos in the past.

Ohio does

I figured the sb1 / sb2 was mis spoken. I wish NEF was still in business and making those handi rifles. I buy a few more in several hand gun calibers
If the insert is in the gun and the only thing on your person is muzzloading components, that pretty much displays your "intent".
Good video Dave, thanks. 😊
Be blessed Dave
Thank you. 👍
Thanks Dave

I guess a lot of folks have never had experience with cci shot shells for handguns.
Enjoyed it David
Excellent! 👌🏽👍🏻👍🏻😎
Had a old Winchester that slung #5shot best next to 00buckshot .
I love the cat, he needs his own channel. Lol
Did not know those adapters existed. That is good to know.
Dave do you still have the Wand butcher knife from years ago I always loved watching you use that thing
"now I'm worried" yep.... I felt that. I don't like to bow hunt because of that..
Cute cat dave lol. He is the long hunter mascot

Great video Dave, question can you shoot shot from a modern in line muzzleloader
My wife would say those guns are 3 inches different but I'm pretty sure it's really 8 inches.
The cat will always find them no matter what
Great video!!! I had an h&r 20 gauge prior to me watching your videos. But when you started a video with these adapters I sought out a 12 gauge. So question. Did your tracker cat give up after the creek? Because it didn't like the water. LOL.
Be lucky u got one for 120
For the cleaning process could you use a boresnake to if you dont have the cleaning rod and where do you get the sea foam spray
Dave, I’ve been watching your videos since the beginning, remember the coyote you cut up to eat? I’d expect blood and fur on your property. Heck it’s hunting/ trapping season. Question, would the .410 adapter work in the M6 scout? Thanks
Nice backstraps 👍
Watch Sniper101 Playlist, you will learn that cleaning a rifle actually makes it less accurate - up to a point!
Huuuuuyyyyyyyyyyyyiiii exelente idea del acople de la escopeta
720 roundball? I thought in a previous video you used a .710. Is the .720 better.
Alot of those ask that be cause they don,t practice ,try anything different be blessed. Peace in the new year
Dave, any idea where can I get that 209 adapter as, "Shortlane" does not ship to Canada?
Is that a new production 209 adapter? Mine is hollow. Curious about the design change. Also I get the” if you have to aspect” but using shot is not good for rifling long term.
Yes buddy
Dave, quick question about your butchering. I will let them hang 2-3 unless temps are going to be above 45 which they were yesterday
Hey Dave have you ever tried it in your tps m6? I'm curious if it would work although I feel like its not as practical in a 410
Just asking do you think you can do that with a 410 for a muzzle loader
Yes you can with the adaptor
I want to know if I can convert a 20 Ga into a Muzzleloader
Hey Dave will those work on im chokes also or just modified?
Thanks for the great video
Looking forward to more
