Back in the eighties, a friend and I called in to a back-street pub in Hunslet, Leeds. In a corner, sitting with a newspaper and a pint was a chap looking remarkably like Mr. Knopfler. My mate commented to the barman, who confirmed that it was indeed the great man. We got served and sat at the next table, exchanging courtesies. The barman then produced a guitar and another pint - what followed next was an amazing free concert for an audience of about five people. The man is truly a master of his art, and a proper gentleman.
I had the pleasure of meeting him at the recent Tusk charity event. Knowing he doesn’t like fame, I took the opportunity to introduce a colleague who wanted to meet him and I simply thanked him for his music and told him of the enjoyment it had given me in my life. I found him to be quietly spoken, gentlemanly and friendly. I assured him I wasn’t a Rudiger looking for an autograph at which he laughed but he did allow me a photograph with him. Meeting him made my decade and if he ever reads this thank you Mark for the few minutes you graciously gave my colleague and I of your time and attention.
Probably the finest guitarist, singer/song writer of my era. Being the same age as Mark has allowed me to follow his career from start in Newcastle to today. My favourite tracks are Private Investigation, Sultans of Swing, Brothers in Arms and Romeo & Juliet. For ever a fan Mick Lyons🇬🇧🏁🥰
Donating to the teenage cancer trust.Just saw a repeat of a documentary from a few years back.Nathan Cameleri ,Aussie guitarist,as a kid was in awe of Mark and wanted to meet him been a Make a wish kid.He did meet Mark and jammed with him.Nathan survived his cancer and has a couple of kids now as a grown man.Nathan has had his struggles but been so brilliant as a kid,I’m not surprised. He’s played with the best as a kid.Im thinking that Mark meeting him so long ago was the inspiration for him to support these charities 😂😂😂😂
His collaboration with the great Chet Atkins was a masterpiece of two superb guitarists blending seamlessly. Also “going home” with icon Hank Marvin is a classic 👌🇦🇺
The first thing you need to do is chuck you picks away...I've been playing for 40 years with five picks...they are called fingers...no fingers, no Knopfler sound...easy
I am so pleased that he is not the stereo type Pop star. I wish that I could meet him, I know that wont happen I also came from a place called North Shields just 6 miles from Blythe. I listen to his music almost every day I love the guitar and another player again from Newcastle is Hank Marvin, he comes a close second to Mark. Mark thinks about others and is a position to help cancer patients, I have lost 4 members of my family Including my husband of 60 years. he is the greatest guitarist and a kind thoughtful man his wife Kittie is very lucky and I am happy for them both to find happiness
my favorite guitarist. always blends the right tone and notes. His playing is the singing. I play guitar until I watch him play or listen his songs. then I just put mine away. lol.
Rock and Roll, by definition, is impossible to define. And, therefore impossible to redefine. It encompasses such a gigantic sphere of interest and fantastic artistry, that to elevate one to the top, denigrates the rest. As one old Irish lady once said, "Music (inc R&R} is the soul of the world, embedded in sound." When aliens finally come and invade the Earth, they will probably wonder what the fuss was all about. Thank you Mark Knopfler.
OUTSTANDING video presentation about one of the GREATEST of HIS generation musical talents. First realized, back in early 1980s, just what an EXRTRAORDINRY, all around musical genius he already had become. TIMELESS, is just one of the superlatives that define his lifelong (always improving) musicianship. We're truly blessed to have been gifted with him!
I worked as an audio test engineer in the 70' and 80's, we were supplied with test tapes, cds, and 12" vinyl records, the LP's were unmarked with plain white labels, amongst them was Dire Straights first album, six months or more before its UK release, I admired the guitar work but the vocals were abominable, never did I dream it would ever become successful...
His music is like prayers to me every songs is like listening to a story or a prayer on tune the guitar sing when he played it It's amazing how beautiful the sound of that equipment when played by such an amazing guitarist like Mark Knopfler i would love to own one of those beautiful guitar of his But unfortunately for me i don't think i can afford one of them famous guitar own by the best guitarist Sir Mark Knopfler ❤❤
Mark has been a huge influence on my playing. I love his melodic style and his playing is timeless. On Every Street has not gotten the kind of rave reviews of a lot of his other works, but this one is among my all-time favorites, for the blend of great sound and song-writing. Same with Ragpicker's...
Pretty good made, this video. I heard his music at the age of seventeen in nineteeneighty but later on I lost it for about fifteen Years. As I saw him on TV about twenty Years ago with the songs postcards from Paraquay and Rudiger, my eyes immidiatly went to tears. What a wonderful man he is. Greetings from Germany
I have loved Dire Straits from the first time I heard them in 1979/80. For ages they were my favourite music. I could never understand why they didn't have the scale of appreciation in the USA I felt they would have had.. I remember talking about Dire Straits to some American friends in San Jose in about 1990, and they didn't even know who Dire Straits were. I was astonished. Personally, I think Marks guitar skills are up there with the best ever, including Eric Clapton.
And another bullshit .a.i. generated video with no storyline with random pictures and facts, facts, facts and more facts.....and some more facts......humbug!

Mark Knopfler is definitely a legend....his music and talents will be heard forever.
Always loved Mark Knopfker’s music. His poetic style and guitar playing are legendary.

One word describes mr knopfler, GENIUS.
Living Legend🎸
One of my favorite artists what a guitarist!
My favourite of all time
Mark is the only rock musician that interests me. His guitar picking is art and his composing is so unique.
Of course he's unique, he's the only one that interests you. That's not a bad thing, by the way.
I'm a fan of his music with dire straits and since then. Wonder why he was left out of the new years honours for his music

I enjoyed all of it. I am a great fan of Mark and appreciate Mark's immensely talented person ❤️ Gerry 😊❤

ACHO QUE TODA Á VIDA DELE É UMA OBRA DE ARTE ! SEM DÚVIDA UM ARTISTA INESQUECÍVEL E MARAVILHOSO SER HUMANO!
Great man top draw..!!
I saw him play in Brewers Droup long long ago 1975/6
I saw him live twice in Zürich. I even have a Gibson Les Paul styled pendrive with the recorded concert
Knew he lived in Blyth. I'm from there, born and bred.
מארק יחיד בדורו❤🎸
Ah bon, c’est mark? Je ne l’avais pas reconnu ! Quel décolleté, mes aïeux !
René.
Enjoyed the video but "Blith" 🤣🤣
AI fail 😂
SNORE SORNE , Absolutely.............
he moved toBLYTH NOT BLITH
Hate the commentary - sounds like it was created with AI...
Because it is 😃 also the thumbnail looks AI created, Mark would never present himself in that way.
It’s Bears Den like it sounds. I’m from Glasgow and that’s how it’s pronounced.
The usual line by line da da da da da da da BONK narration but good story. 😉
Mark is the biggest jew on the planet Earth ❤❤❤
His idol Bob Dylan is still around!
The commentary is written so badly that it wouldn’t matter much who read it
Which AI speech generator is used for this video?
A great musician. Great video.
Spoilt by a comically embarrassing AI commentary.
Where is Blith and Bowlow, and who is Pete Town Shend😂
$50 for a guitar in Newcastle?
.met him 1980 After Dark Lockport N Y. Great guy great performance. Lonewolf West Seneca ny
AI BES again
❤❤❤❤❤💫🩷
No coment
WTF is that thumbnail?
Another BS thumbnail
And another bullshit .a.i. generated video with no storyline with random pictures and facts, facts, facts and more facts.....and some more facts......humbug!
just over 100 million, thats not much considering the length of time in that business.
Clearly you know nothing about the man other than what is in the public domain. Waste of time.
Don't be hard on the machine.
I want to know who the hot woman in the thumbnail is.
AI text to speech requires careful curation, just saying.
..I grew up on Hendrix and always found Knopfler's guitar style anaemic..
Two different styles. They are both good.
