I visited Cyprus twice before the 1974 war. The first time in the summer of 1972 I just turned 9 years old. We went to Nicosia and Famagusta which was a beautiful touristic city by the sea. I remember the beautiful white sand beach. The second time was six months later during the Christmas/New year vacation. We stayed at the Ledra Palace Hotel. Such beautiful memories.
I did visit Cyprus before the 1974 war as a kid. I went there to visit my parents as my father was working for British Government as MOD civil servant at a British military base at Dhelika from 1970 to 1973 when he was posted back to England a year before the war. We lived in Famagusta and I enjoyed swimming in beach almost every day while I was on main school holiday. I went to Cyprus and back to England for school at Basingstoke. I remember it very well. it was a peaceful island then but I don't go to NIcosia or even Laranca. My parents and my sister and brother went to both cities though. I did not fly to and from Laranca, only Nicosia airport from London Heathrow using BEA (now merged with BOAC as British Airways) except one or two which I flew with Cyprus Airways (in partnership with BEA at the time). Sadly since the 1974 invasion, that airport is still closed except that it was used as a base for UN peacekeeping forces. I really enjoyed visiting Cyprus very much as a young boy.
@@DavBlc7 You remember something wrong. That was not an invasion, ther is no invasion. Hi Martina what you wrote is insulting to cypriots .cyprus is one country Cyprus republic .in the EU since 2004 .There s no Turkish part or greece .the north is occupied by Turkey 1974.your country is Czech republic, or czechslovakia, No its Slovakia. Language s spoken on the island before was mostly greek 70% and 20% Turkish 10% other Armenians etc... we all decent greece depends what you are .its very confusing because all cypriots say that there greek or Turkish but Cyprus is independent from greece

Cyprus is a very beautiful country... I don't care about partition politics Cyprus is one country that is not divided... I hope to visit it soon because it is a tourist country and I love travel and tourism..
I living in Athens for a long time because I have business here, I watched the video and I felt there is completely like Greece, I don't know about Turkish side but another side is like Greece, if you keep down the flags, I can't understand there is Greece or Cyprus, also as you know Cyprus is the Greek name - it has ended with "S" (Κύπρος), finally I think Cyprus is my second country like Greece, I never feel any difference between them and like them.
Yes, but some things are different Lol They drive on the other side like in the UK. I always had to pay attention to that Lol And also, they use the 3-pin plugs. But you are right that Cyprus is very much like Greece. It's kind of funny that the whole island is smaller than Athens. In terms of population, I mean.
don't think about the name I said Cyprus is like Greece, but please let me complete that, Cyprus is not Greece - Cyprus is not Turkey, Cyprus is Cyprus kardeş.
you keep on mentioning turkish side/ greek side.. the recognised republic of Cyprus is occupied. 3/4 of your video is recorded on the OCCUPIED part of the island. Lets not forget that many Cypriots like myself are refugees in our own country.
@@ufuk.adamı what do you expect them to do? Forget their history? Philosopher Zeno of Citium? The ancient Greek monuments? The history of Aphrodite? Over 2000 years of Christian heritage and churches? The Greek language which 83% of the population speaks? This is ridiculous. I don't understand why you can't keep your history and heritage and just respect each other and live together. People can do it in London, they can do it in Nicosia too.
Ive been reading through the comments for about the past half hour, and the only thing i feel is sadness because of the majority of peoples outlook on the situation
Yes, I know. The video was intended as a purely travel one but there were so many reactions. I remove the spam comments but I don't think it's my role to censor the legit ones... even if the language is a bit strong sometimes.
@@yusralouhi2788 now with covid and everything that has happened in the last year its a bit different than when i wrote that comment, but i will do my best. Also, i must say first that this is how i see things as a 21 year old, so its basically my opinion. There is physical division yes, but more importantly the extremists on both sides are unfortunately the loudest shouters, and so they drown out the majority of people who are reasonable and have no problem with the "other side". Basically, most people would love to co-habit with the "other side" (i have to put quotations because really were all cypriots, disregarding mainland greeks and turks, and irrespective of which side someone was trapped on after the war). Sadly though, our politicians at least in the south, im not entirely sure how it is on the north but from what i hear from friends in the north its a similar situation, they always use the war/division/re-unification as a rally cry to gather supporters and votes. They keep promising that they will make steps to find a solution to the cyprus problem, but because its not in their favour to do so (because if they do they will lose their strongest argument of gathering supporters/votes), as soon as they are elected they switch to the real reason they wanted to get into the position they are in -- profit. This has nothing to do with left or right, its everyone sadly. Its a f*#+ed up situation that i personally dont have all the answers for... All i know is that the current system on both sides is deeply flawed, and keeps two communities that want to be friends from the bottom of their hearts, divided. To close, when i am talking about cypriots, i am not referring to mainland greeks (enosis - the far right movement in the south that wishes cyprus to become a part of greece and lose its identity) or mainland turks (colonisers who have been brought over by turkey so that they outnumber the 'turkish-cyptiots' on the island). Not my words, a turkish-cypriot [read as: cypriot] friends words. Many people will disagree with what i have written, and perhaps they are right in some aspects, but this is my perspective on the issue based on my experiences.
That's normal uk has all the language s in the world ,Cyprus is controlled by the west because of its strategic position close to russia middle east ,and it favours turkey to control some of the island .it was English and UN,plan to separate the island and to put the turks control the north being a nato country.Yes Greece is in nato but the greeks are not yes men like turkey.

I went to Cyprus in 2000 on holiday I loved ❤️👍 it there.
Thank you for watching! I am glad you enjoyed the video.
The border dividing Nicosia reminds me of the cities of Beirut and the days of the Lebanese civil war which went without return:
Yes, true. I also thought about Berlin which used to be divided.

The worst of all is the loss of Palestine in 1948 when its own people expelled out and foreign humans collected from all the world and brought to replace the palestinians just because the foreign humans are folloers of prophit moses.
We are now a united country again (Lebanon) hopefully our neighbors to the west will one day too
Love you cyprus🇨🇾🇬🇷❤👍🏻
That wailing call to prayer would drive me insane!!
nice...and beautiful city..
Nicosia (Lefkosia) Very interesting city ... In the morning you can swim in Greece and have lunch in Turkey. Everywhere, however, is a pleasant atmosphere and very nice people. I love Cyprus😘💕🌴🌴🐈 Maťa from Slovakia😘💕
Martina Magulova, thank you for watching the video. I appreciate the feedback. I also think that Cyprus is a lovely island. The atmosphere is so relaxing.
Nice brorher
I. Live. There.
Very. Romantic. City. Really
Liked the not so biased video.
I miss cyprus.I live there for 12 years.
Thank you very much for your nice and fàntastic video.
Please show us the hot and happening streets of Nicosia having large numbers of restaurants clubbed together.

Hello! Thank you for watching the video! Probably, I will be visiting Cyprus more frequently in the future. It''s a great idea to make a video which features the restaurants and cafes in the city centre of Nicosia.
@@aerotravelerNL You are welcome.
Thank you very much for your reply to my comments as well as your acknowledgement that my suggestion is a very good one.
Keep uploading many more such beautiful videos and stay blessed.

seeing that beautiful old church turned into a mosque made me feel ill

How about Cordoba Mosque then? Spain turn the mosque to cathedral
I felt like throwing up when l was inside the church, l just couldn't get why it was converted to a mosque 🤨🤔

Viasky Company it’s not certain. According to another idea, it comes from a Hebrew word. It’s also a flower name in Ottomani language.
don't think about the name I said Cyprus is like Greece, but please let me complete that, Cyprus is not Greece - Cyprus is not Turkey, Cyprus is Cyprus kardeş.
Actually, there are so many cultural influences in Cyprus.
@@mehmetakifbilgic8123 when Kipros was named, Hebrew Jews, and Turks where not existed
Beautiful country , so peaceful
Yes, Cyprus is a really beautiful island.
you keep on mentioning turkish side/ greek side.. the recognised republic of Cyprus is occupied. 3/4 of your video is recorded on the OCCUPIED part of the island. Lets not forget that many Cypriots like myself are refugees in our own country.
Actually, I think that the island should be one. It belongs to the people of Cyprus and not other countries.
@@aerotravelerNL As southerners keep claiming their ancient greek heritage, the unified cyprus will be a dream.
@@chrisucl you are not greek.
@@ufuk.adamı what does it matter if I'm Greek or Turkish or Italian? Asking any side to forget their heritage is ridiculous.

Wow very nice place .
Thank you! Actually, the whole island of Cyprus is a very nice place. Greetings :-)
Could you tell us how is the situation? Thank you.
@@-XArchLinuxEnjoyerX- thank you very much for this very detailed explanation, very mature for your young age.
Nice and very lovely
When I visited Nicosia in the 90,s you couldn't go to Northern Nicosia from the Greek side.
Hope I can came again
Where do you live?
It’s interesting there has 2 different languages using on the same street and even has a clear border to separate which part using Greek it Turkish
Nice vlogs bro
Thank you 🙏
