Hey Friends! A few things to note... 1. This video was shot when I first arrived in The Philippines in January 2018 2. I apologize for the poor audio in a few scenes when I take out my small point-and-shoot camera (I'll figure out something for this moving forward) 3. As always, please hit that notifications bell (next to the subscribe button) to receive updates when I upload (every Friday), and when you do, come say "hi" over on Instagram - instagram.com/tourist2townie
Probably the best docu video vlog i've seen. Great script, stunning visuals, shots, colors, movements, pageantry. You are unbelievable Gareth and you may become my idol from now on. I wish to catch up and follow all your vlogs. Please do more video vlogs.
If you want to learn more about Philippine history, you can read it in the link below. www.quora.com/What-is-the-most-obscure-ancient-civilization-that-most-people-dont-know-talk-about/answer/Dayang-Marikit#
Gareth Leonard Hiiiii! I just saw your 2 vids. about the PH 🇵🇭 I am from the PH, and I recommend you to come visit Iloilo City! I promise! 💓 That's the best City in the Philippines. Anyway, enjoy exploring!
As a Cebu resident for over 12 years (I'm a foreigner), thanks so much for showing the beauty of Cebu, its people, and the dedication to Santo Niño. Also very much appreciate sharing the history and culture of Sinulog. Interestingly, the Santo Niño statue was one of three gifts given to Rajah Humabon (Don Carlos) and Hara Humamay (Queen Juana) by Magellan, though it is the only one to survive. It was found in the ruins of a home-thanks to an attack by Miguel de Legazpi-and the current Basilica Menor de Santo Niño marks the spot of its discovery.
@@emmango5965 I don’t think so.If its that easy sir,how come a lot of cebuanos are jobless and unemployed. Some didn’t even found their luck here so they worked abroad.
The festival was so Colourful and Wonderful with people full of Smile, it's Insane. Now my curiosity about the Philippines cultures increased. Awww i want to go to the Philippines so Bad but i don't have the Time.
As a Cebuano, this video is making me emotional since we missed this year's (2021) Sinulog celebration, the solemn procession and the grand mardi gras due to this pandemic. Thank you, Gareth. ❤️
You’re such a good story teller. You let the people understand what Sinulog is. Not just the party but the colorful culture and tradition behind it 😊😊😊
Cebu is a kaleidoscope of varying cultures and lifestyles, a meeting of east and west, a fusion of things traditional and modern. This is influenced by the various phases of Cebu: being the spot where Philippine history began, becoming the cradle of Christianity, experiencing American and Japanese occupation, and later on transforming itself into a regional hub of everything - from arts and craftsmanship, to business and information technology. All these, plus the convergence of personalities and groups from varying backgrounds give the island a culture and lifestyle that is uniquely Cebu. Traditions remain unchanged over the years, while every taste of things that are modern is embraced.
What a load of crap. Cebu is a backward, hillbilly trash shithole with loser Visayans trying to rob you at every corner. The provinces are nice though, but stay away from that deathtrap of a city.
@@Yoshi2x excuse me? I speak Visaya? I've never been to the Visayan part sorry to disappoint you princess! Your pathetic loser comment is not needed here moron!
aahhh, Cebu! I was fortunate enough have been born in such a beautiful culture and country. I think of my parents whenever I see video of Cebu, and fond memories of childhood. Hello from California my fellow Cebuanos! great job on covering the festival.
Wow! I have no idea that Cebu has one of the biggest festivals in the world. They really know how to make a festival sparked for a long time. I really enjoyed watching your video!
One of the things you definitely miss about the Philippines are the well-known, extravagant and fun festivals. Sinulog, Dinagyang, Ati-atihan, Kadayawan, Panagbenga, Maskara and alot more. Philippines will always be the home of great festivals. Thank you for this Gareth. Feels like home.😊
YOU are so lucky to have experienced that festival. Sinulog is for me the best festival in the country. It is rich in culture and tradition and very symbolic with the Baby Jesus. Not all Filipinos have the chance to experience that, and I for one can say it was a breathtaking festival of my life. And the chaotic party is a testament to filipino celebration.
I love how you do these vlogs. There's a bit of history background and you're actually showing the culture and not just focus on the parties and wild times. More more please!!
Another amazing thing is how you really pronounce the Filipino words authentically, it tells how much you are truly dedicated to what you're doing and that gives much more charm to your character. Unfortunately for some of us, we could only dream of going to these places and live this experience, but thank heavens there's you who can bring us there right at the comfort of our homes and enjoy every minute of it. Endless thanks Gareth.
Just for following the entire procession of Sto. Nino ...I am following you. I think of all the vloggers. out there you are the only one who followed the procession from beginning to end. Sinulog is not only about the fun but it is a religious celebration. Thank you for capturing it. May Sto. Nino bless you always.
Hi Gareth, thank you for sharing sinulog festival. I'm from Philippines and always been there but never experience sinulog yet ever. I thought it's only a simple celebration but when I watched your videos i was amazed, it's really so great ... keep it up and God bless you always...☺️
excellent cinematic quality from 6:20 onwards. Love your depiction of Sinulog, the most anticipated Philippine carnival and religious party every year.
It's Sinulog Festival 2019 fever once again in Cebu! I hope you can make it the 2nd time around Gareth and immerse yourself in the biggest religious and cultural celebration of the country. Christmas and Sinulog is just one long fun-filled holiday in this central island of the Philippines.
I was born in cebu but I have never attended this yet. Me and my friends are planning to go here next year. Thanks for this at least we have an idea what to expect.
as a Cebuano, during my college years I rarely attend the procession or religious march because of too many people. Indeed this is one of the country's most awaited festival and to experience it is unforgettable. Thanks sir Gareth for featuring my home :)
You perfectly captured the essence of the entire Sinulog festival! Goosebumps all over starting at 6:23, especially that last scene at 8:01. You got a new subscriber here 😁
Whatta great video, you truly captured what Sinulog weekend is. I am originally from Cebu and now living here in the US. Can’t wait to go back and experience it once again, its been years.....long overdue.
haha you've experienced also that unexpected rain around 6 am before the festival street dancing started. Same experience, i dont know where to hide that time.
I just found your Philippine travel vlogs now and wow you were able to capture what Sinulog festival really is. Other vloggers only come because of the street parties but you were able to highlight the other aspects of the festival. I now actually miss the Sinulog because we didn’t have it this year because of covid :(
Nice work Gareth! I am glad that you are not only featuring our beaches and other natural landscapes but you are also showing the cities, our traditions (which we have an abundance of) , and how people live. You make me miss my home country even more. Shout out from Canada!
One of the grandest festivals in Cebu or should I say in the Philippines. I wonder how is Sinulog celebrated next when there is still the COVID-19 crisis. I hope all will be back to normal soon. Love the Philippines
Just discover your channel today and i've been binge watching some travel bloggers who visit my country Philippines and what I love in your vlogs is that you include some history in it. I feel like i'm watching a documentary which is so great!
thank you Mr.G for taking the time to learn the correct pronunciation of the words which for foreigners like you might find difficult to say let alone doing it properly. Kudos to you.👍👍👍
The natives burned down the church where the baby Jesus statue was (Santo Nino). But even though the church burned down, the statue of baby Jesus was absolutely untouched. It was a miracle that triggered the Catholocism of the Philippines. BTW, when you have the peppers in the vinegar, you cut them with your spoon to mix the heat of the pepper with the vinegar. ;) Beautiful video, especially of the parade. Thank you for capturing my wife's people with respect and love.
